Great Review!!! Been a Skrillex fan since 2012 and one thing I like the most is the energy of his tracks. In his livesets from Ultra, EDC, Tomorrowland and so on, I've always wait for his new mashups and unreleased tracks. After watching and listening to all his tracks and livesets, I've learned that proper timing and flexibility will keep the vibe up. 👽👽👽👽👽

Skrillex is one of the few producers I would wanna sit down with and ask a bunch of technical shit to. Not just music but, also branding and image stuff. Cuz, I have to admit. Some producers are technically skilled. Some are great at branding and promotion. This dude is good at both. And he learned all that shit way too fast. Aka, he won a Grammy for a dubstep album….like, bro. Fucking how? Cuz, it’s possible. He did it. It was even more unheard of than it is today. It could happen again. But, how in the actual fuck did he do it? Right now, dnb is gonna blow up. Every edm producer is saying this. It’s just a matter of when. Dubstep when skrillex did his thing was almost prideful in its modesty. It was like, skrillex was the Chad Muska of skateboarding but, for edm. He came out, and somehow became a rockstar. And everybody in the community hated him until they realized he was also one of the most skilled in the field. And, I dunno how either of them did it? Cuz, whereas chad lived an explicitly lavish lifestyle. Who knows what fucking car skrillex drives? I don’t. Who knows how much his fit costs? I don’t. I don’t know a think about the dude, other than he’s hyper as fuck and somehow made dubstep 5 years ahead of its time become relevant the moment he made it. It just doesn’t make any sense. But it worked. Whatever the fuck he did. And I gotta know. I’m tryna think back to how I got into dubstep. It was him. Why? I heard my buddy say “yo. This dude makes crazy shit out of memes.” That was it. And than randomly I was listening. Something about the pop culture references hit different. It was satirical in a way. Dubstep prior was super emotional. And deep. Skrillex made it accessible through memes dude. Like, is that the secret sauce. If something is too technical, just make it seem funny? Cuz I think it is. Looking at some of the more successfully dubstep producers now, most, if not all songs have a joke in them. Than, there’s skrillex’s image. A party animal with over the top energy and charisma. I mean. Maybe there’s a formula here. Take something really hard, technical and complex, make it seem like a joke, than present it like an animal. And people will have no choice but to notice. Than adapt into the mainstream. Boom. But that still seems to simple. There’s something more. And that is what I wanna know.
There's a LOT to unpack from Skrillex and his life Jackson. He was a musician first and foremost, and he just happened to go into production and DJing. But hey, if the guy is genuine, and lives simply, then it's all good!
Well it's not like he came out of nowhere. He was the face of From First to Last before he went solo, he's known music his whole life; and when he went solo the person that picked him up and put them on their label was Deadmau5. However you feel about deadmau5, the dude is one of the most prolific dj's on earth. For a long time, i fucking hated skrillex, I was listening to dubplates back in 06 and hearing everyone refer to every genre as dubstep killed me inside for a long time. Dust settles, and skrillex did nothing but improve his sound design, mixing and mastering both live and in studio, and then went to try new genres and bring smaller artists that were once in his position to heights they'd never dream of (a reminder that Porter Robinson's Spitfire was one of his labels first releases; as was Skream, one of thee biggest inspirations for dubstep, first foray into house music) Skrillex is a genius, 10 years ago i would've said luck, but he's proven with work and dedication that he's a genius.

I saw Skrillex live back in 2011 in germany where he played his dubstep tracks like "MY NAME IS SKRILLEX" and "SCARY MONSTERS AND NICE SPRITES". it was insane!! =)
As someone who has no interest in this style of music, I pressumed all the speedy knob twiddling was just for show. I'm very impressed with what appears to be actually happening, it seems crazy complicated.
I really would love to see this kind of video about "Die Gebrüder Brett" simply bc I as a total amateur just don't understand their mixing especially with their pc. Also I would like to see Rooler, but I guess both are a little bit too much out of the normal spectrum, music wise :) Ps: good video as always, greets from Germany :D
I relate so much with Sonny Moore. Started my musical journey with no rhythm at all. Progressively got better with that as I grinded hours upon hours learning guitar. On top of it, I got to play with a buddy that was learning to drum, so we progressed together. Quite the unique situation! We ended up starting a band together, and toured a bit, until tragedy hit. However, I kept all my musical gains and applied it to DJin'. It's really not hard at all tbh! Just have to get familiar with all the techniques and processes. (which you have made incredibly easy) I might seem like I"m fanboying hard here, haha, because I am. You're truly awesome for taking the time to explain everything you've learned over the years. It's one thing to be a teacher and a player. You definitely have both. I call it musical ambidextrous. :P I'm not starting the journey to making my own samples/songs. I know how to Scream and sing vocally, so it's gonna be a lot of fun! What are some cool samples you've come up with for effects during your songs? Anything that is unique to DJ Carlo?!
Man, this comment really made my day! So far, the only thing somewhat unique is showcased in my Redbull Threestyle routine (arm under leg scratching lol), but I really hope the tragedy wasn't too bad Johnny! The fact that you already have musical knowledge in you goes a long way!
"Backspinning is a pretty excellent technique when you want to add more impact" Proceeds to show a series of some of the worst spinbacks ever executed 🤣
@@djcarlo Na I'm only messing man. It's true, they definitely do when done well. I usually only ever do them as an impromptu thing when a transitioning out if something is going to drop the energy level too noticeably if done smoothly.
People talking about how deep he is going whilst DJing. Honestly this is my first time watching this video and my friends, other djs I know and myself all use all of these methods already
It's funny really, because the illusion of the trade is shattered when you really know what goes on behind the decks. The casual crowd listener though wouldn't know how any of this is happening though!
Jeff Mills or any of them Detroit Cats. I grew up going to them party’s in abandoned venues, watching all them guys. Vinyl DJing is a true art form that demands impeccable skill. No time for theatrics and jumping on tables. It’s on a whole other level, even though I respect the laptop work.
Not mixing, it's called syncing. Turning knows to filter noise to take the crowd that's it. Put 4 turntables I. Front of him without a laptop and see if he can get it done.

I am The Master, but everyone can see that you really worked hard to understand what makes skrillex a very strong DJ as well as a producer, thanks for the video!
You're welcome bud! I try to see what techniques I can find in all these breakdowns just to share 'em with the world :)
I feel humbled and almost completely unworthy to have read such words of great mastery.
Thank you, master.
I love how you say the next technique isn't so easy but after explaining what he does you say it's easy and effective lol
It should be easier after explaining it!
Loving these DJ techniques breakdowns 🙌
Glad to hear it man! Hope you can share and like the video :)
What an awesome video explaining one of my very favorite artists!!
For sure Therondevu! Hope you enjoyed the video!
It’s crazy how a producer’s style informs their DJing. Skrillex is all about hype, but a testpilot set is all about subtlety and grooves.
I love james hype the way she performed so much hyper
True!
It will be cool to do COONE next
Btw this series is really
Thanks dude! Hopefully we can keep this going with.all.the views;
@@djcarlo yeah mate
wonderful video! thank you! always loved skrilex but never thought of trying to dj, thank you for this insight and a amazingly put video!
For sure Quinn! At least you now have more insight into the man behind the mixing!
POV: your dj controller broke and now your looking up dj videos because you miss it
Broken headphones but still same feeling :(
Thanks dj carlo i wait for this for so long
Hope it was worth the wait! More breakdowns to come!
Welcome bro 🙌🙌🙌
Have a look at at AMC 6 deck mix, he’s been killing the drum and bass scene for years and dethroned Andy C as best DJ in the dnb awards for two years running
Woah! Sounds like an interesting guy!
This ^^
"dethroned"?!? That's obviously very arguable.
@@briancardsfan Andy C hasn't won "Best DJ' in the dnb awards in two years with AMC winning them in two consecutive years. So it isn't arguable because Andy C didn't win the award
Ive been waiting this break down for so long thanks dj carlo 🙌🙌 wooot wootttt!!!
Yaaaayy! Glad you’re enjoying this one!
Can you breakdown Virgil Ablohs dj techniques, he’s a great versatile DJ , also a breakdown of Solomun would be awesome he’s one of the greatest
I'll check that out! Thanks for the suggestion!
LEGEND WHO NEVER BEATMATCHES ❤
Skrillex is my favorite this made my day... THANK YOU SO MUCH!
YOU DA BEST!!! It's helpful knowing any of us can do this!
Thanks buddy! Hope you learned a lot from this video!
Ayy I love him too, however I don't know much about DJing but I love the energy at his shows
@@trystanfresh Right!!!
I learned so much. Fascinating how in depth this all is
Glad you enjoyed the breakdown! Tried seeing what I could glean from Skrillex, and I'm happy you appreciated it all!
I'd love to hear and see a video where you explain and demonstrate how to find a song when you are just second from the end of a song but havent found that right song. I guess how to make a back up plan for song selection when you blank out.
Great idea! Thanks for the suggestion!
Some progressive/melodic tech DJs mixing style. Camelphat, Innellea, Bodzin, Mind Against, Tale of Us, etc.
Pretty much yes!
You should break down Andy C's mixing style next!
Good idea! Thanks for suggesting!
@@djcarlo I second Andy C!!! His double and triple drops tutorials would be nice :)
I third that and suggested Andy c in a previous video.
You are the Real deejay bro.. Olways CARLITOS🥇
Thanks man! Just doing my part for the dj community!
Btw, you are my main inspiration to becoming a dj
Thanks, man! I do my best to show the world a better side of DJing :)
I requested this video. Thank you🤗
Ohhh right! Hope you enjoyed this!
You should do a similar vid but it’s James Hype his hands move so quickly
Sure sure! Thanks for the suggestion!
You read my mind! Was about to ask you to do break down on skrillex's techniques. As always. Thank you keep it up Carlo man!
Cool! Great minds think a like! Thanks for being here!
Please make a Video of analyzing a set of an Techno DJ like Charlotte de Witte, Amelie Lens or Boris Brejcha 🙌🏼 would be very nice. Thanks for your content 🔥
Oh those are amazing DJs! Let's see!
Thank you DJ Carlo!
Any time! Thanks for listening!
Would love to see this done for DJ Mall Grab
I heard he's pretty skilled!
I saw Skrillex live back in 2011 in germany where he played his dubstep tracks like "MY NAME IS SKRILLEX" and "SCARY MONSTERS AND NICE SPRITES". it was insane!! =)
Carlos, James hype is by for on of the most creative djs, review some of his top tricks please, great chanel love the vids
Let's see what I can do! Thanks for the suggestion!
Seconded!
Don Diablo ! Cool video as always , we appreciate the high quality content bro .
Thanks man! Hope the world sees more of my stuff too! This takes so much work!
Thank you for this champ! Skrillex is a hell of a legend! MAKJ next please champ! #playwithmusic
Thanks man! Sure I'll consider it! He's super good!
HEYYY I recommended Skrillex! Thanks! Super awesome video man
That’s so great! Thanks for that request! Glad you like it!
THAT HYPE ASS FILTER IS MY FAVORITE !!!
Thanks for watching! Glad you like that!
ahahaha im dun
@@notnicebass LOL :D
Hope to see DJ Snake on 0.25x soon🙃💙🎧🔥
Awesome Tricks I've learnt from this video😮
Thanks man! Hope you learned from watching!
@@djcarlo Ofcourse I've learnt! You're way of saying things is so good🎧
If I never hear a backspin again it will be too soon
I can't stand MCs calling out "who wants a rewind?". I once stopped a set and told the bloke nobody effing wants that and to tone it done.
@@GriotDNB yeah it worked in the 90s its not really worked since.
ah wow thanks for telling me about backspins i never thought of that
especially coming from dnb where it doesnt get used much
You bet!
@@djcarlo I was being sarcastic mate backspins are way overdone in dnb ur a mug
🔥 awesome! would like to see you break down James Hype, Armin van Buuren and Don Diablo’s mixes next!
Those are all good suggestions! I'll see what I can do!☺️
As someone who has no interest in this style of music, I pressumed all the speedy knob twiddling was just for show. I'm very impressed with what appears to be actually happening, it seems crazy complicated.
Good! Thanks for watching!
I think it’s definitely an art form of it’s own. Takes skill just like learning an instrument
Nice, keep it up, could you do James hype next
We shall see! His style is so fast~
Yeah, but that is why I love these videos of yours, you break them down so well
This just makes me wanna spin again, my setup is in the garage and it's been waaay cold.
I really would love to see this kind of video about "Die Gebrüder Brett" simply bc I as a total amateur just don't understand their mixing especially with their pc. Also I would like to see Rooler, but I guess both are a little bit too much out of the normal spectrum, music wise :)
Ps: good video as always, greets from Germany :D
Good suggestions! Thanks for letting me know dude! I'm sure he's dope!
(which you have made incredibly easy)
I might seem like I"m fanboying hard here, haha, because I am. You're truly awesome for taking the time to explain everything you've learned over the years.
It's one thing to be a teacher and a player. You definitely have both. I call it musical ambidextrous. :P
I'm not starting the journey to making my own samples/songs.
@@djcarlo Thanks for responding! Means a lot!
"hype ass fader"
Awesome thankyou! I can't wait to get a deck and learn!
Can't wait for you too Tara! Let's goooooo!
How to mix Tech House and Hip Hop like James Hype.
Good idea! I will check him out!
@@djcarlo How to mix like avicii
@@АлексейДудник-у8я i think his production videos would be more interesting for you
Skrillex at 2015 ultra… that was an experience
It was a very good year for a lot of them! Ultra 2015 was pretty legendary from what I've heard!
"Backspinning is a pretty excellent technique when you want to add more impact"
Proceeds to show a series of some of the worst spinbacks ever executed 🤣
Lols, admittedly not the smoothest backspins you'll hear, but I still stand by saying that backspins add impact! Hahaha
@@djcarlo Na I'm only messing man. It's true, they definitely do when done well. I usually only ever do them as an impromptu thing when a transitioning out if something is going to drop the energy level too noticeably if done smoothly.
@@djcarlo Or when I've screwed up 🤣
But it did impact you lmao
This is great! Thanks for breaking it down for us!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Damn 1st time seeing skrilex djing he redlines like crazy lol
😂😂😂😂😂
Thank God for the sound guy who fixes everything up!
@@djcarlo if u aint redlining u aint headlining 😂😂😂
Your sound ends up compressed to fuck on the system nailed in the red. Really bad practice.
“Number 3”
Bruh you’ve already said like 20 different things he does already 😂🥵
Glad knobs are finally getting the credit that they deserve. People always think knobs do nothing and DJs just do it to look busy.
Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike too :D
Oh yeah they're the best!
Oooooo
Hey! Awesome vid. Can you break down Madeons DJ techniques?
Do how Timmy Trumpet really DJ pls
Let me check that! Thanks for suggesting!
YOU ARE AMAZING!
Thanks bud! Really appreciate the kind words!
Try real djs Jeff Mills 4 decks with Vinyl.
I’ll take note of these! Thanks for the request!
My thoughts exactly, I remember wayy back having a DVD with a recorded 1hr set. The man wa a beast
Not mixing, it's called syncing. Turning knows to filter noise to take the crowd that's it. Put 4 turntables I. Front of him without a laptop and see if he can get it done.
