Started watching this series again and making my friend watch it with me. He asked me what kind of anime it was. I told him it was a magical girl anime and he thought it was gonna be some kind of happy go lucky series. Then he saw Episode 3.
I have a lot of themes that give insight into me. Despair. Guilt. Insanity. Might I recommend the slow version of Magia, existing only due to an error in the first episode?
At what cost? You think I LIKE being Madoka’s enemy? Even now, I have to resist the madness. If you think I can’t hurt her more than I already have, you are sorely mistaken. That is why I must die. Naturally, I will do what I must because Madoka is way more important than my feelings and my guilt...
Every time the ending theme played and this song came on, with Madoka running past everyone towards the abyss, just sent chills down my spine. Then you learn each of their stories and the impact becomes more and more intense. I don't know if the song was composed for the show, but it certainly felt like it.
The ending it's about: ! Also spoiler warning ! The light represents becoming a magical girl, at first Madoka only walks to it because she doesn't really want to become a magical girl, but she still wants the powers that come with it, we see the other girls not moving, that is because they already are Magical Girls and I think it's also because now they are dead besides Akemi Homura or because they don't know the truth and they don't want to prevent Madoka from becoming a magical girl besides Akemi Homura. Then she is running towards it because she wants to put the wish to save her friends. Then the light is back chasing her and she is running from it because now she knows the truth and Kyuubey keeps trying to convince her to become a magical girl. Then we see her in a soul crystal (I think was called) waiting to be awaken, and when the camera moves back, we see a face, kinda looks like the witches, and that represents the ending
I like that this played in episode 1 _before_ it became the ED. (It played at the beginning when Homura was fighting Walpurgisnacht and Kyubey was trying to get Madoka to contract.)
If you were to just listen to the song without the lyrics you can 100% hear it capture Homuras love and obsession with Madoka. The beat itself is so despairing and dark which captures Homuras entire personality as she’s willing to do anything for Madoka to be by her side, whether it’s dying or chaining her down by her side
and the stone-cold determination she built over each timeline can be felt in the singer's voice, as well as what's left of the desperation that slowly dulled over time. now it's just calculative, decisive determination to do whatever it takes to save madoka. you can feel that.
This song really made madoka magica for me. It sums up all of the despair that homura must have felt perfectly. For all Danganronpa's symbolism regarding despair this song does it way better. And Danganronpa isn't even bad. That's just testament to how perfect this song was for this anime
Me: *watching PMMM at 9 Y/O, thinking it was an innocent magical girl show* Ep 1: okay, bit boring but this can get interesting Ep 2: ok, getting more interesting. I don’t like that fox guy’s vibe....what if this show’s about rebellion against an evil magical girl companion?! I gotta keep watching now! Ep 3: HOLY SPARKLES MAMI NOOOOO! *proceeds to not sleep without nightmares for the following week* Watch Madoka Magica they said. It will be fun they said.
I... I also watched PMMM for the first time at a young age... But I understood the depth, power and character within the show and loved it. Maybe it's because when I was 9 years old, I wanted to be a surgeon when I grew up(I'm still interested now,as an adult lol. man. Time has passed), so back then I intentionally watched graphic videos of heart surgeries, and researched diseases like Necrotizing Faciitis to desensitize myself.... So maybe that's why I never understood the idea of "oh this gave me nightmares for weeks"? I'm not sure.... But when I was young... and as I grew up...and now... I paid more attention to the power of the scenes and the parallels between characters rather than freaking out over 'gore'...? (actually, maybe the fact that I would watch Happy Tree Friends at a young age also tied into that.. But the shock of death for me ties into empathy for the character rather than for 'shock' and 'gore') Yes, Mami's decapitation added a big shock value.... But.... I wasn't really thinking "oh shit, wtf she died i thought this was supposed to be a family friendly anime" like so many people did... Surprisingly, I don't even remember being as shocked as the whole fandom seemed to be during Mami's death. Don't get me wrong, I respected her death, and I didn't make fun of it... But there are way more character deaths from other anime and games that made me sob my heart out because of how much it emotionally impacted me.... Mami's death was mainly a shock and surprise.... Though of course important to the story... It just......... It somehow didn't effect me personally as much as it did to a lot of other fans? Idk. Madoka Magica is a beautiful anime, the art style is gorgeous and unique, the symbolism in the art is huge, and the themes and characters have so much depth to them. That's what made me love the show.... Not the whole oh-haha-guess-what-you-werent-exepcting-death-haha-youre-shocked-arent-you mentality... Because yeah. PMMM is way MORE than episode 3 lmao
@@enevy3165 when I came back to it later I was under the impression it was an edgy mess of shock value and boring characters with extremely negative messages along the lines of “everything is hopeless and meaningless unless the special chosen perfect person stops whining and finally fixes everything like they could have from the very start.” To each their own, I guess. However, there were elements I liked. The art style (minus the extremely unsettling witches) is actually quite pretty, and the music is awesome (case in point, the video above). There’s also Sayaka, who’s story is incredibly beautiful and tragic (I actually wouldn’t have minded if they cut Mary Sue Kaname entirely and made the show about Sayaka instead). In conclusion, I have a tendency for disliking stories people think are peak fiction and liking stories people overlook.

Fun fact: The first airing of the first episode had...shall we say, issues. Among other things, the audio was screwed up. The music would play slower. You know, give you something to think about with this song that ISN'T how I'm a tortured soul that needs all the love. THAT gets tiring, and your odes and serenades are boring...

Since the letters are too small... _________________________________ Someday, the light of love lit within your eyes Will transcend time And surely destroy one of the dreams Of the world that hurries off to destruction Swallow down the hesitation What do you wish for? After I heard this ED in episode 3, I thought it sounded so powerful especially with the silhouette of Madoka running faster and faster to the light. I thought the big twist would be that she would go (violently) berserk with her powers. She kinda did but not exactly lol
wonder why there's so many different resulting translations for madoka. the english subs for this song in various sources has different lyrics, and now i can't settle for any of them. like, the opening line of this song, according to the first rendition in the subs i saw, is 'the light of love you lit in your eyes one day... transcends time, and surely destroys one dream.... of this world and hurries to its ruin'. each interpretation changes the feel of the song and the scene that i love and it's annoying. still prefer the first interpretation that i saw here ww5.soul-anime.us/watches/mahou-shoujo-madoka-magica-episode-1-english-subbed-2.html
@@peynnep6483 Translation is a tricky business, especially when you want to translate poetry which has to have a certain number of syllables per line and a rime so it fits the melody... That's why there are many translations of old classics like Don Quijote, and also why new translations are often welcomed.
I got some strange Steins;Gate vibes as Homura's storyline started unfolding and initiating. It didn't help that Madoka has Mayuri's voice and is the one that Homura keeps looping for. XD

Everybody gangsta till this plays at the end of ep 3
The artwork in the witch labyrinths really creep me out
Most magical girl anime: happiness fun friendship and-
Madoka magica: *SUFFERING!*
Most magical anime: no.
Even after so many years since watching this, I still remember the melody to this song perfectly due to how many times I used to sing it ^^;
Litteraly listening to this more than 20 times a day since the last 3 weeks listening to it over and over and finish the whole video .
Finally found it
Since the letters are too small...

Someday, the light of love lit within your eyes
Will transcend time
And surely destroy one of the dreams
Of the world that hurries off to destruction
Swallow down the hesitation
What do you wish for?
On the whereabouts of this greedy admiration,
will there be a fleeting tomorrow?
As though it were an ancient magic
That I saw in my dreams when I was young
With the power that crushes the darkness
I want you to put a smile on your face
In my trembling hand
Is courage of a plucked flower
The only thing to count on is my feelings
My wish
Will awaken the lights
Someday, you will desire for
A strong power for other's sake
On a night when love catches my heart
As-yet-unknown words will be born
If I can make it there without being lost
I don't care if my heart gets broken
I've always wished for a spell
To face up to the sadness
Before my eyes
You are a dreaming memory
I am a sleepless tomorrow
I will make my move to obtain
A miracle of our meeting
In my trembling hand
Is a blade of a plucked flower
The only thing to live on is my feelings
My wish
Brandished within my heart
Back when I loved a book about the wonderland
Where the captive sun ever shone
A fairy tale used to tell me
Wishes would come true
That's what I believed in
(In the light and the shadow)
A calmly blooming
ancient magic gently whispers to me
The power to change the world
Lies within that hand of mine
I'll keep on dreaming with no end
In time we both go through
The only thing to live on is my feelings
My wish
Will create a new life
They really aren't though
SpikeVallen Yep. The lyrics this commented out are slightly different, too, but there are different translations.
WHO IS HERE BEFORE THE NEW ANNOUNCMENT OF THE 4TH FILM AHHH
Cant let the homies know i fw this song
“I first met her in a dream, or something….”
Imagine giving up your soul and stuck in a timeloop to save your crush from dying from being a magic bitch just for her to become god all of a sudden and reject humanity so you turn into satan cuz you had enough of this timeloop and kyubey's bullshit that's homura for you
In astrology we call this " the Pluto loop "
Btw this comment is the best, love you for this 🪰💗
@@reducetheatomsWhat is astrology?
Thank you so much for this.
Here after the other one got taken down
This is my favorite song ever thank you for these lyrics
After I heard this ED in episode 3, I thought it sounded so powerful especially with the silhouette of Madoka running faster and faster to the light. I thought the big twist would be that she would go (violently) berserk with her powers. She kinda did but not exactly lol
New Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Walpurgis no Kaiten (ワルプルギスの廻天)
I really love this song!
It's so happy
i think roselia from bandori should cover this! yukina's voice would be perfect for this song
wonder why there's so many different resulting translations for madoka. the english subs for this song in various sources has different lyrics, and now i can't settle for any of them. like, the opening line of this song, according to the first rendition in the subs i saw, is 'the light of love you lit in your eyes one day... transcends time, and surely destroys one dream.... of this world and hurries to its ruin'. each interpretation changes the feel of the song and the scene that i love and it's annoying. still prefer the first interpretation that i saw here ww5.soul-anime.us/watches/mahou-shoujo-madoka-magica-episode-1-english-subbed-2.html
same, but still likes the others a bit too
mostly because I can't find the first I heard in full version
@@peynnep6483 Translation is a tricky business, especially when you want to translate poetry which has to have a certain number of syllables per line and a rime so it fits the melody... That's why there are many translations of old classics like Don Quijote, and also why new translations are often welcomed.
why are you not watching from 9anime?
Who will make cry & scream the world?
1. 3th impact
2. Madoka's majo
3. The rumbling
Listen...
We are falling into Despair....
I'm very excited that 22/7 will cover this😍
Remember episode 7.. See my tears? ;-;
we all cried with that chapter
I got some strange Steins;Gate vibes as Homura's storyline started unfolding and initiating. It didn't help that Madoka has Mayuri's voice and is the one that Homura keeps looping for. XD
I still think Steins;Gate is better. Even the Steins;Gate movie is better than Rebellion.
The things you do for love....
Literally changing the laws of universe
As much as I love magical girls why do they all have such sad and tragic stories.
Love this song though ❤️
But now the magicals girls live happy life☺
Really love the theme, it's amazing
The fact in the end of the ed it looks like madoka is in homura's eye
Only in the third episode I realized that this song was also the insert song of the first episode

Cette video a le Meilleur traduction pour la chanson Bon travail! J'adore cette chanson et J'adore PMMM!
Okay, now that I have seen the lyrics translated, I have no doubt anymore. Homura is in love with Madoka.
Loli with a gun.
Love it already.
With time power as well.
Loli🤓
ngl this anime really fucked with me when I first watched it. I couldn’t sleep for a few nights.
episodes 1 2 and 9 throw me off guard when i rewatch because im not used to the endings being different
Richtig guter Anime, mit einen guten OST!
3:35 chills...this is my favorite part
So...I just watched episode 3 and I'm officially invested now! This song slaps so hard!
meguca must fight
𝙸 𝙻𝙾𝚅𝙴💜🖤⏰!!!!
I feel MAGIA is a really fitting song for Kamen Rider Gaim too, but not surprised since both are by Urobuchi Gen!
Is it my impression or this sounds like what happened in rebellion?
I think it’s an Easter egg to what happens in rebellion

Beautiful ending and beautiful anime. Homura is the best character in my opinion.

I noticed that a lot of comments are from 4-6 months ago, was this anime re-aired? I rewatched this and it seems that this anime is hyped again
The plot is something man a true masterpiece
The Queen of Darkness, everyone, Yuki Kajiura.
She can make you have any emotion with her music
This is just a jojo opening. It's so epic and just the plot of the true story
