- Deputy Dion Blake with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office saw a problem and spent years building relationships to help prevent boats from becoming abandoned or derelict. Deputy Blake walks the docks looking for the first red flags, which are typically lapsed boat registration, or incorrect registration decal placement. From working closely with the Port of Newport to one-on-one with boat owners on how to fix citations for lapsed boat registrations and using technology to save time, it's all about improving the marina's appeal, protecting water quality, and offering suggestions to owners on how to keep their boats pristine.
The Marine Board is grateful to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office for their law enforcement support in helping to enforce compliance with the minimum requirements for moored boats and working with owners to take responsibility vs. letting the boat evolve into a derelict or abandoned situation.
