    I have been here in the Philippiness 10 yrs this month. In 2014 Philippines waslisted as the number 1 or number 2 place to retire, due to low cost of living etc,etc. If you look up th Philippines now it has fallen to 15th place and some long standing well know bloggers have all said they are leaving. The cost of living here is getting ridiculouse and keeps getting worse! Inflation here has gone insane especially for what you get here. This country is definitley 3rd world. Filthy place to live. Traffic is absolutely terrible, roads are terrible, travel time is beyond ridiculouse. Hospitals are terrible, there are only 4 world class hospitals inall of the Philipines, Thailand has 44 in comparison. I already told my Filapina wife I may be leaving Jan 2025. Philippines is no wheres near what it claims to be.

    One thing I learned to keep living costs low is to live the province life. If you're living in BGC, IT Park, etc...your better off staying in your country the cost is very high in the city places like that. You will also need to get used to brown outs, water shutoffs, no hot water, and typhoons seasonally...don't set yourself up for misery then write the Philippines off as a bad place because you couldn't accommodate the life style here. I'm an American Veteran, USA will always be my country, but when it comes to enjoying a stress-free life, explorations, fun adventures, good company and food, the chill life...the Philippines is my Headquarters. Sorry Marker 44, just wanted to clarify "Philippines"...there's the city life and the province life...2 different worlds and financial influences to consider. This is not to say that we can't be like this in the US, but when it comes to stretching a fixed or low income, the Philippines is an enjoyable option.

      Thanks for the comment! There are definitely many different levels of cost and comfort here. Thanks for pointing that out. I share your outlook.

    If you pay before Dec 15 it is a flat rate 20% discount....so we usually pay all our property taxes on the 1st week of December...

    I think one of the reason electricity is cheaper in Bataan its because the province is one of the main distributor of power in Luzon.

    wow, what a difference in property tax. we typically pay $16.00 USD for past 3 years.. in Dinalupihan, Bataan. sadly our power bill was 7.500 pesos last month. we had a lot of Christmas power happening hahaha.

    When I hear people talk about the savings of living in the Philippines vs. North America what they don't mention is the major step down in quality of life, like traffic, pollution, over population, power outages, water outages. We pay more at home & we get way more in return, I still like to visit the Philippines but it sure is mice to go back home as well.

    Just try to ask or check the electric company in your place if you can able to pay your electric bill online, like in BPI Online Banking, here in Manila i don't need to pay my electric bill going anywhere i can do the payment via BPI Online Banking....Here in Manila i can verify my Electric Bill amount in Meralco Apps every month then i can pay it via BPI Online Banking..

    Scott, did you have the option of paying for 2years. I was able to do so in Quezon City, and we also paid early were able to take advantage of advantage of a 20% discount on our Property Taxes before Christmas. The downside of that discounted Taxes was everyone it seems was aware of early pay program and both the main CIty Hall location and the satellite location were swamped. We were there for 5hours. Yes you heard that right.

    I know it is expensive, especially for batteries, but have you thought of looking into solar? This way you have power even in brown-outs.

      Let me see! Have a nice home in the Philippines comparatively, and spend less than half of what you spend in the US. Don't have the rat race and keeping up with the Johnsons. Or live in the US, spend almost 10 times more on property taxes. Spend on average 5 to 6 thousand a month and deal with the rat race! My money is on the Philippines. But it's not for everyone!

    • @Landmantx
      @Landmantx 8 месяцев назад

      What is that lot more you get exactly? I just don’t get the excitement for paying taxes here in the US. I just wrote $13,000 in property tax. $12,000 in car/house Insurance, $12,000 on health insurance, $8000 on life insurance. Before you even eat, you have spend near $50k. That doesn’t even include a house payment or car payment. You could live 2 years in the Philippines on that $$$ very comfortably. I look forward to just being free and easy.
