First Last I don't understand your rant. Vl Skates and talks about skateboarding in this video how does that make him a kook? And fix what about Robs part?
@@ba7260 Most of the stuff mentioned in this video is common knowledge known to skaters. This is a video about why some pros are hated. Robs done tons of great things for skating but why would that need to he mentioned for this video? Also no need to call anyone names. This video is for entertainment purposes, I enjoyed it. No need to be a negative Nancy.
The first two are basically like: "Ryan Sheckler is hated because he lied about landing a bs flip down el toro. Gator on the other hand isn't very popular because he murdered somebody" :D
So people hate Nyjah for earning his money by winning competitions, but also hate Bam and Ryan for making money outside of skating. The skate community is full of haters.
@@tiarnan97 but there is no way around that lewis is a very talented driver. I mean he nearly defeated Fernando Alonso in equal machinery in only his first year in f1 and before that he won the GP2 title against drivers like Timo glock or Nelson Piquet Jr.
I still love you Karya Rob doesn’t do that either. Everyone just loves tony hawk because he is one of the best skaters to ever get on a board. Tony doesn’t have 3 other shows too. Get it now?
As soon as they get an MTV show, they are a sellout, no matter who they are. Pro skating is a career by itself, no need to sign a slave contract with MTV.
Funny u mention this he’s from my city and built a skate park and I just started skating I’m about to go tomorrow! Do hes definitely helping the new skate generation
I met Bam at a CKY gig in Australia during their Soundwave festival tours not too long after the passing of Dunn and man he was not in good shape, drunk but quiet, you could see the sadness all over his face the whole time... It definitetly wasn't how I wanted to meet the man himself, I really do hope he finally gets his life back.
pretty much all do it rappers you name it they invest in emerging tech start ups, companies can't skate forever holy shit to the losses use of "sellout" is dumb as fuck my god! it needs to STOP!
I don't see Rob as a sellout. He has done a lot for skating and is always at the forefront of what's happening in the skating world. He's a sort of an ambassador for the pastime
Yeah i totally agree rob dyrdek was a great skater and his show with big was a huge success and i had no idea that he created the street league thing. He wanted to branch out after his skating career and did so with a certain amount of tastefulness snd obvious success. If anything i would have guessed mike vallely, i happen to like mikes unorthodox style but he used to be at least when i was into the skating scene in the 90's and early 2000's one of the more divisive skaters to bring up in conversation.
It is complete insanity that there is hatred for success in this world jealousy is disgusting get a grip the guy has done so much for skateboarding and The youth of this nation I say keep it up Rob!!!!!
Bruce Wayne very true! I don’t view street league as a way to make skating mainstream, I see it as a way to boost skateboarders’ fame and funds. Some people view skating as non-competitive but my friends always pushed me to try stuff. He also started a foundation to build skateparks around the US.
i had no idea people actually hated the guy. he was a talented skater who planned ahead and made bank doing so. not really seeing anything to hate on other than people being jealous.
Yeah I didnt mind his show but I find the character that he puts on to be obnoxious sometimes. But I dont think thats really him I just think its a persona he created for the show.
Imagine not understanding the term 'sell out' but still commenting. Your not alone tho, like 50% of the comments dont seem to understand what that means.
@@suicidalbanananana "Sell out" is a term used to describe someone who makes a decision to do something that would bring them success. So again, Imagine hating someone for being successful.
No, selling out is pimping the grass-roots merits of your community to the mainstream,, it's pissing away your underground cred, and eventually your artistic integrity. Whoring everything spiritually valuable in exchange for financial success and celebrity status. We hate poseurs and sellouts because they break the implicit bonds that make this shit worth doing.
@@StephaneVorstellung things like "underground cred" "spiritually valuable" dont put food on the table and its pathetic that people dont mind someone staying broke and struggling just to maintain some bs moralistic light in bystanders eyes. Its a crabs in a bucket mentality. Nobody successful and well-off calls someone else a sellout. Its always the ones struggling to get out of thr bucket themselves Remember that.
It''s sad there are people who believe skateboarding is a path to financial security and a healthy retirement savings. ("I do less vert now because I wanted to diversify my securities portfolio...how's that sound?"). Look: If you get the chance to go pro for a while, great. If you can get your own company off the ground, great. Otherwise skate and get a goddamned job. This isn't about putting bread on the table, it's about which side of culture are you playing for. The way you shill for the commercial aspects of the sport would make my step-father really proud. Tell you what, leave your number: I'll pass it on and you two can set up a power lunch.
So basically here is a how to be hated: 1. Get extremely good 2. money 3. Get recognition from non-skaters 4. Help make skateboarding "mainstream" (aka introduce more people to the sport) Alternate method 1. Murder someone Edit: I didn't think this comment would get so many likes or reach so many eyes. I realize at this point I have a responsibility to explain myself. This comment is a little joke to poke fun at why some people dislike some skaters. Please don't take my comment too seriously. Most of the skaters in this video are disliked for very valid reasons. While I think a lot of skaters buy into the mob mentality of hating someone because they are too mainstream, most skaters don't. Please don't read my comment and think "wow skaters are shallow and dumb people who just want to put down those who are successful" because it's simply not true. Have a nice day and keep skating.
LOL CkY ? I also grew up with friends like that... Shit Tony Hawks American Wasteland was everything to us. We broke countless controllers from raging trying to pass the very hard version of the game 😂😂😂😂👌👌
i don't know if this is a good or bad thing (i know he skated to did good parts i think) but many prob hate him for same reasons as rob to again dumb and wrong hope he's okay tho for sure i love the dude

@Alan formula1 No it's not.. Being responsible for someones death isn't the same as murder. On top of that, lets not act like Shane didn't have some responsibility in the matter as well. He chose to get on that bike with Ali all fucked up.
I get why people would hate him but that dude has help fund skate parks for youth to help prevent them from going on a bad track in life. He has a heart of gold and nobody can take that away.
fame is a weird term to defining fame is also weird on how to do it but shame some skates left undocumented is a loss but kinda better imo kinda sorta might had a few other rodney's but yea
Sorta reminds me of when underground rappers make a few radio-friendly tracks and their "fans" label them a sellout. Adults need to make money and finding ways to promote yourself is all just a part of the parcel, either do that or remain broke. There's a UK rapper/Grime artist named Skepta who made a track called Reflecting who talked about this sort of thing, great track.
Nah none of you guys are skaters. Doing this kinda shit is pussy. Getting paid to do what you love is great but when you get paid to do whatever a company wants sucks and makes you a pussy for doing this kind of shit for money.
@@assa-tq5yy you're a moron. wtf do you think a skater should do when their career is over? kill themselves? nobody is forcing Rob to do anything, he is the one who pitched the idea for his shows. if you think working for someone else makes you a pussy then there's a very strong chance you're calling yourself a pussy, pussy.
I don't think people are saying that they don't "deserve" what they have earned and worked for. But rather are sell-outs and have taken away from what skateboarding is all about.
Why do people put these "change my mind" posts? No one cares what you think so why are they gonna put effort into changing it. You're just some dude, get over yourself.

Pretty much. Hence sell (get paid) out (outside the core click, ie to corps). However, obv you can become successful and provide a better life for your family without selling out.
A lot of people dont realize being talented or skilled many times is followed by a lonely life full of jealous friends and family that will constantly do anything to ruin your reputation.
The phrase "sellout" is so damn stupid. It's a word people who aren't as successful as other people use because they're jealous of someone else's success. Did Lewis Hamilton "sellout" when he started driving for Mercedes' F1 team and became world famous for his abilities? ...no, it's because he's one of the best drivers in the world. Did Rob Dyrdek "sellout" by starting SLS? No...he created a platform for more skaters to be recognized and acknowledged for their talent on a huge public stage. Did Tony Hawk "sellout" when he became the first person to land a 900* then go on to lend his name and reputation to an entire series of video games that probably got hundreds of thousands, if not more people into skating? No. All of these people that are "sellouts" are responsible for entire generations, hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of new people getting into the sport. If selling out means getting more and more people interested in whatever sport you do, then I'd sell out any day. The people who are responsible for deaths and other terrible choices are deservedly disliked. The people who are mostly responsible for basically the entire current generation of professional skaters should be cherished.
While I agree with what you are saying you need to find another example besides Tony Hawks, you've got to remember that in these peoples minds, yes, he did sell out when he made those games.
Plus, you can only skate for so long, you know? So if you start something that can live on in case you get injured or get too tired there’s a back up. Another thing-people need money. People like money lol
S S for real if it wasn’t for tony hawk games back on the PS2 i would of never got into skateboarding. well i did enjoy watching sheckler on those old street tourneys they used to show on tv with greg letzka and all those guys ahahaha
It's not the success but what you make out of it. Listen carefully, skateboarders never get anything easy. It's about physical labour, dedication, putting yourself on the line, injuries, grit, continuous practice, getting hated, mental breakdowns, creativity, frustration and neverending amounts of attempts for 1.5 seconds of footage; literally people drive 3 hours back and forth to a spot to get bruised and kicked out and will do it as many fucking times as it takes to get the clip. It takes as much resilience as being a soldier, but you also have the artistic aspect of it too. I think a top ranking skateboarder should take pride in this quality within them and represent skateboarding accordingly. Champagne, Bugatti, pool parties and lofty manors don't represent that. Those represent easy luxurious life of a playboy or a businessman who took advantage of the labour of others. I really don't care what Nyjah or the others do with their money, but it doesn't properly represent skateboarding to the wide audience. Skateboarding isn't about the high life. You, who clearly know nothing of it should shove your uninformed and misguided opinions and let skateboarders choose what to do do with their art. IT'S OURS. NOT YOURS.
SLS was good entertainment but the skate community online is toxic. Nyjah houston was doomed from the start and so was everyone who didnt fucking kill someone. Sellout or one shot wonder thats the two paths for fame.
@@88_TROUBLE_88 Tony hawk is worth $140million. Some posers here are a bunch of whiney bois. "Sellout" my ass. Not Everyone who is good at skateboarding is gonna be as cool as mullen or hawk. If you knowingly get in/on a vehicle with someone who is drunk, its your fault too. No one talks about that. You made a stupid choice and it cost you your life. Happens all the time.
You could tell looking at him the regret he has. And if I'm being honest, drunk driving and hitting someone? Awful. But if you jump on with someone you know is drunk you've bought in. It's not the same as hitting and killing someone in a different vehicle.
And nyjah Huston earned all of his money. He fkn won contests, he didn't cheat or do anything but win. He's one of the best skateboarders ever. How can you hate on him? Unless you're just a hater. He's fkn awesome

Bam Margera will always be my idol and the one person i will always look up to. He did not only become an entertainer from skateboarding, but the ways him and Ryan Dunn along with the rest of the CKY guys didnt just do it for money and the attention. 99% of people that get mad about others "selling out" are just jealous. Because 99 out of 100 skaters would love to make hundreds of thousands of dollars to do what they love to do. Haters
Not really.. Skating is a subculture, close to other subcultures like hip-hop/metal or graffiti. It definitely belongs to the youth and on the streets, where it can get also rough sometimes. So on this planet are a lot of people having fun together on their boards with friends and so on, and a really small amount of those skaters became a professional. Nothing bad at first, but when you see then some of them driving around in Lamborghinis and wearing a Rolex, being arrogant and so on.. you might get the feeling that the spirit and the message beyond gets totally lost. And this is really sad, because this few ones are representing skateboarding in the publicity. No matter how talented you are, but in the end it is about skating, not posing, right?
@@dznLoma "being arrogant and so on..." Dude that is part of the skate sub-culture. Let's not forget that Rob Dyrdek started a nation wide skatepark revolution and laid the foundation for how street focused skateparks should be built. When the DC Skateplaza opened in Ohio, he put out a DVD called "Groundbreaking" with footage from opening day, but more importantly it had tips for cities looking to build parks of their own. He discussed building materials, ledge and handrail heights, even where to make relief cuts in the ground relative to the top of a staircase so the crack wouldn't be too close to the stairs. The idea was to take the DVD to your own city so they could get the ball rolling and build a park that people would actually want to skate.
True story: I grew up in San Francisco in the 90’s when skateboarding was at its peak in popularity. I’ve met some funny, outgoing, and all around cool guys (Mitch, Ritch, Toad, and Carey Staton / Stayton, spelling? The guy used to ride for Freedumb) but there was one person I met, that without a doubt, was an absolute douche-canoe. My friends and I used to frequent FTC and one day when we made our ritualistic stop there to see Dan (one of the clerks who has worked there for years), were stunned to see none other than Mike Carrol step into the shop. Mike was preparing a new deck for himself and he threw his older (barely used) deck in the tiny green garbage bin that hung on the wall. One of my friends Kier said, “Sweet a new board,” and decided to snag the deck. Mike then grabs the board out of my friend’s hand and says, “If you want one of my products kid, pay for it!” After Mike threw the board back into the waste bin my friends and I collectively gave Dan a look of astonishment, and Dan (understandably), turned his head and looked the other way with a look that definitely told us he agreed with us but didn’t want to start anything with Mike. After Mike’s distasteful display of egotistical douchebaggery, we called him a faggot, told him what he could do with his precious skateboard and told him every skater we met that day, we would express to them what a pissant he was. We did exactly that moments after we left the shop and told some skaters approaching the shop. What’s funny is after we quickly relayed to these strangers what just transpired; they looked at us and asked if we were being serious. Of course we insisted we were and immediately after that those skaters walked into FTC and started giving Mike a hard time. (We could hear it as we were walking away) Good times guys, lol, good times.
lets be honest. skate boarding isnt going to be paying the bills your whole life. People saying some of these skaters are sellouts are mad because they are not staying to what got them started. when your 30 and your bones become weaker and the falls start becoming more painful. tell me you wouldnt want to branch out to find another way of income.
Yeah, but Heath Kirchart invested all the money he was making from skateboarding into real estate, so that when he got into his 30's he retired from skateboarding and had income. The "sellout" thing has to do with hyping yourself as a celebrity to people who don't skate or give a rat's ass about skateboarding. There are plenty of skateboarders that got rich from skateboarding and stayed rich from the companies they created. They didn't have to get a reality show or compromise themselves in order to make money. Anyway, regardless of whether you agree or disagree with my viewpoint on this, it is their life, not yours, and honestly I can't see why anybody cares one way or another. Live your life true to your own principles and be happy about it.
Yeah it bassically ruined his life and career. Cant help but to feel sorry for the guy. I know people hate him and what he did was wrong but it seems like he thinks he deserves a life full of punishment.
I actually lost a friend to drinking and driving. He was the passenger, and another friend was driving. I've seen first hand how that affects people. While I still hate that it happened, I've moved on, and never really hated the person who was driving. It really destroyed her knowing what she did. But also, people need to realize, its not just one person who made the decision. They both did. I can't jsit blame the driver when the other person should also have known better.
Tony Hawk once said something like: I ate McDonalds as a kid, I still eat McDonalds now, how is it selling out to take money to advertise me skating to kids with ads that McDonalds buys. I'm promoting skating.
Yesterday I went out skating with my friends, since I’ve spent a few weeks learning and riding around, and i told them Bam Margera gave his gate code out online and we’d go there when we got good enough. They were like, “Who’s Bam? Is he a personal friend of yours?” Which i thought was crazy, they’re only four years younger than me but I’ve always known Bam through TV and skating
People only hate the “sellouts” due to jealousy. They wanna make millions too by having a TV show. They are just trying to pay the bills and promote the sport.
While im sure theres people that hate on these skaters for having seen some kind of succes, i think its a bit ignorant to say that people ONLY hate due to jealousy? Look at SLS for example, ever noticed how the scoring difference between male and female is retarded? how most girl skaters invited to such events (with all due respect etc) are just photo models that cant skate? Its because the guy behind SLS is a f*cking sellout that just wants to get more boobs on tv so more people watch it.... (ask a girl skater about SLS lol) The reason people hate some of these skaters / see some as sell-outs is because of exactly that, they're fucking sell-outs, if you cant see that thats totally fine, but dont tell me im jealous, because im not, im annoyed that skating as a whole is getting turned into the latest thing to milk and these people are part of the cause, its not about 'promoting the sport' its about 'riding the bandwagon for that fat paycheck'. Be honest with yourself, look at how skating gear and clothes prices have gone trough the roof over the past years, look at how many 'skating' channels there are on youtube and other social media that hardly cover any actual skating, but are actually more about getting views and promoting products, look how many 'famous' skaters have blogs where they dont even skate but just casually mention products. Skating isnt about skating anymore, its about getting attention. What once was a underappreciated sport is now somehow slowly downgrading to a fad getting too much attention, but no real actual progress, the best skaters are still the same guys from 20 years ago.. To summarize, we all wanted skating to grow, but now that its growing most of us are starting to realize this is totally not how we wanted it to grow, and i think at least some of the skaters in these video's are getting the 'hate' simply because of putting skating in the spotlight, good or bad, the result is that we're now stuck with the weird skating media & 'spokespersons'
Panda Hungry It's a lot less out of jealousy and more out of the fact that most skaters that become big now care more about the money and opulence rather than the skill and talent of skating itself. Why do you think Tony Hawk's Underground had a story that showed exactly what skating is really supposed to be about other than the money? That's the thing. I mean there's nothing wrong with having some luxury off of other things as backup, but it doesn't mean you should squander your talent just to make some green. That would be like throwing away your perfect 4.0 GPA in college just to make some easy money by gambling. You see what I'm trying to say?
Mary DeMuth agreed, and bam actually went through it too, Jeremy Rogers and shecklers soft ass should of been at the top of list Tbh can’t hate on Nyjah for being talented and rich tho. Life isn’t always about fun, work hard play hard, look at that fool now driving foreigns living in a big ass house with white bitches in the pool, I want that life if skating will get me there
the skating community can be one of the most toxic communities but also one of the most supportive, it sucks that some people get discouraged by the bad parts
‘Hate’ is a really strong word when used in its proper context. And using it in this video really highlights how bastardized the word has become. Hate implies severe, personal disdain. I’m sorry, but when you’re not personally involved with a situation, unless the subject matter is absolutely diabolical, nobody is going to truly ‘hate’ anybody in this video, except perhaps the murderer. And anybody who does legitimately waste time ‘hating’ a celebrity for events completely outside of their own reality, has legitimate personal issues, and an absolute lack of prioritizing issues of personal importance.
@@greed777 Bam was fundamentally just an american teenage bum, never understood why is he in the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games. Its weird man i notice even though the skate world claims to be the most accepting of people its more judgemental than sports tbh. Your either a chad, a jock, a artsy fashion clown or punk rock. My best depiction of real skaters is like dudes from anti hero. They best represent the skaters that just get it. Fuck fashion. Fuck trick selection. Fuck all this mountain dew olympic shit lets just bomb through going as fast as we can and have fun dammit. Idk maybe im missing something
Being classified as a sell out for having a career outside of skating is blasphemous. I love the shows skaters put out, it gives a kind of behind-the-scenes look, Like what rob did with rob and big.
What do you mean Rob Dyrdek made street league to “capitalize on making skateboarding mainstream”? Why wouldn’t the skateboarding community want a platform like that? Smh
Yeah, I agree. The positive results of mainstream skateboarding far outweigh the negative. Skateboarders can now be recognized as athletes rather than hoodlums. It's now an Olympic sport and cities will even pay for parks in their communities to allow younger kids a safe place to skate. Whether its music, extreme sports, anime, etc.- all these things greatly improve after being brought into the mainstream. The more exposure an industry gets, the more it will be economically stimulated.
There really isn’t a negative. People will bash on skateboarding for no reason. The truth is skateboarding is a true art. The fact that somebody wouldn’t want it to be portrayed at a professional level is beyond me. I wish skateboarding was taken way more serious because it truly is something hard to do
I don't hate Nyjah but I don't like watching him skate in competitions because the odds of him taking gold are so high. And for him being such a good skater he's kind of boring to watch. He's like the Floyd Mayweather of skating.
@HeadshotTatertot93 Exactly, when did being good at something make people hate them, including the "GS warriors of skating" comment. I've skated for over 20 years, and have never had a problem with Hawk, White, Muska, Sheckler etc. How can anyone who calls themselves a skater be upset that some have managed to make a really good living off of doing what they love? Don't have to like the individuals to enjoy the athleticism. As far as not liking Huston cause he's cocky... In his teens he was already better than most pro skaters can ever even imagine being. honestly, some people just oversaturate the term “sellout”. while yes, there are people who unfairly and greedily capitalize on their careers, many are just trying to achieve their dreams and make it out of the bends. everyone has their own version of success, so try to be a little considerate and appreciative that some people are successful in the skateboarding world. not to mention they worked HARD to get to where they are.
I hopped my High School fence to skate during the weekend a few years ago. Then stunned me constantly that my shirt caught on fire. In court, they skipped the part where I was on fire and charged me for B&E. I love the law system.
My sister's personal experience was when she was young she wanted a Autograph from Chad Muska on a piece of Paper. All he could of done was right his Name but he said I don't know you So Get lost... to this day He was a douchebag In my eyes. But I personally met Rodney Mullen he was my inspiration to skate, he's got to be the chillest person Ever.
When I was into skating I idolized people like Bam and Rob. Theyre my childhood and brought me so much joy. I even loved seeing young skaters like Ryan and Nyjah doing their thing. It’s crazy that as soon as the guys realized they can make a serious career out of something they love, people start to show hate
Nyjah deserves all the money he gets the fact that he started skating at four years old is amazing and he is very talented and I bet you have never seen his back story
She is so childish. I just got intonskating and seeing her lose her shit after losing to a japanese teenager and throwjng tantrums afterwards wasnt ideal
Tony Hawk has done more for skateboarding that anyone else. How many people has he inspired to start? Yes it is easy to hate on popular people, but he is the most well known for a reason. Is he the best ever skateboarder? No, he wasn't the best even back in his prime (Rodney Mullen was), but for whatever reason, he is the one that caught on with the public (my guess is because of his awesome rememberable name).
Ali, bam and rob should not be here. I hated ali at first but seeing how fucked up his life became after the accident made me feel sad for him. Rob's and bam's shows were really funny and if you followed bams life/career for a while you'll notice he was always more of an entertainer than a pro-skater in todays sense. Rob made smart decisions and he tried to make skateboarding more acceptable as a sport. I dont hate him for that.
People don’t really know this or don’t think about it but rob is a pretty smart dude. I’d say that he even has some business sense. He made a practical decision that would do nothing but benefit him and the other people involved. I can’t hate someone for choosing to do good for themselves.
Great vid, as a skater from late 80s early 90s, for me the sell out mainstream "Americanised" version of skating is an unfortunate by product of skating. As soon as people were "trying" to become sponsored or professional instead of skating for fun with your friends, it destroyed the honesty of skating. Alot of the ones mentioned in this video were/are the instigaters of this movement.. Long live free skating.
Okay, Im actually upset Bam is on this list. He’s my biggest influence growing up, the reason I skateboard, and the reason I’m still skating. Yes he’s done some shitty things but he is and always will be my favorite skater.

The people who are mostly responsible for basically the entire current generation of professional skaters should be cherished.
so true i bet most the skaters calling other skaters sell outs will be broke in their 40s or 50s wishing they "sold out."
Its a real thing but some people don’t know how to use it properly
While I agree with what you are saying you need to find another example besides Tony Hawks, you've got to remember that in these peoples minds, yes, he did sell out when he made those games.
Plus, you can only skate for so long, you know? So if you start something that can live on in case you get injured or get too tired there’s a back up. Another thing-people need money. People like money lol

He discussed building materials, ledge and handrail heights, even where to make relief cuts in the ground relative to the top of a staircase so the crack wouldn't be too close to the stairs. The idea was to take the DVD to your own city so they could get the ball rolling and build a park that people would actually want to skate.

Ehh no sometimes off camera can act kind of a dick
True story:
I grew up in San Francisco in the 90’s when skateboarding was at its peak in popularity.
(We could hear it as we were walking away)
Good times guys, lol, good times.
Mike Carroll was always known for having a piece of shit attitude. (I grew up skating in 90's SF also.)
I'm not from SF or American for that matter but isn't that just his persona? I think he puts it on tbh. Sounds like a complete asshole though.
Chosen One Maybe don’t call people homophobic slurs and then call it a good time?
Finley The Golden goof
San Francisco is putrid
lets be honest. skate boarding isnt going to be paying the bills your whole life. People saying some of these skaters are sellouts are mad because they are not staying to what got them started. when your 30 and your bones become weaker and the falls start becoming more painful. tell me you wouldnt want to branch out to find another way of income.
LMAO at "Bones become weaker at 30" how old are you kid? Haha... I agree with the other stuff you said though.
men hit their physical prime at 28-34
Yeah, but Heath Kirchart invested all the money he was making from skateboarding into real estate, so that when he got into his 30's he retired from skateboarding and had income.
I found out about Nyjah 2 days ago and now I like him alot
Ali clearly couldn’t be more remorseful and once it was explained the blame is not exactly 100% on him. Throwing that in there
Yeah it bassically ruined his life and career. Cant help but to feel sorry for the guy. I know people hate him and what he did was wrong but it seems like he thinks he deserves a life full of punishment.
Yes!
I don't skate
Me at 4am: Let's watch a video fo the 9 most hated skaters!
Jay it’s 5am rn for me lol
Me rn 2 am🤣🤣🤣
Yesterday I went out skating with my friends, since I’ve spent a few weeks learning and riding around, and i told them Bam Margera gave his gate code out online and we’d go there when we got good enough. They were like, “Who’s Bam? Is he a personal friend of yours?” Which i thought was crazy, they’re only four years younger than me but I’ve always known Bam through TV and skating
I'm guessing you've seen Do A Kickflip
and it blows me away that people don't know who the hell Tony Hawk is.
Nope
I am only 12, and I know who he is!
People only hate the “sellouts” due to jealousy. They wanna make millions too by having a TV show. They are just trying to pay the bills and promote the sport.
We all would have done the same, am I right?
While im sure theres people that hate on these skaters for having seen some kind of succes, i think its a bit ignorant to say that people ONLY hate due to jealousy?
Look at SLS for example, ever noticed how the scoring difference between male and female is retarded? how most girl skaters invited to such events (with all due respect etc) are just photo models that cant skate? Its because the guy behind SLS is a f*cking sellout that just wants to get more boobs on tv so more people watch it.... (ask a girl skater about SLS lol)
The reason people hate some of these skaters / see some as sell-outs is because of exactly that, they're fucking sell-outs, if you cant see that thats totally fine, but dont tell me im jealous, because im not, im annoyed that skating as a whole is getting turned into the latest thing to milk and these people are part of the cause, its not about 'promoting the sport' its about 'riding the bandwagon for that fat paycheck'.
To summarize, we all wanted skating to grow, but now that its growing most of us are starting to realize this is totally not how we wanted it to grow, and i think at least some of the skaters in these video's are getting the 'hate' simply because of putting skating in the spotlight, good or bad, the result is that we're now stuck with the weird skating media & 'spokespersons'
suicidal.banana you’re jealous..plain and simple
Panda Hungry It's a lot less out of jealousy and more out of the fact that most skaters that become big now care more about the money and opulence rather than the skill and talent of skating itself. Why do you think Tony Hawk's Underground had a story that showed exactly what skating is really supposed to be about other than the money? That's the thing. I mean there's nothing wrong with having some luxury off of other things as backup, but it doesn't mean you should squander your talent just to make some green. That would be like throwing away your perfect 4.0 GPA in college just to make some easy money by gambling. You see what I'm trying to say?
both rob and bam don't deserve to be on this list. especially rob since hes given back so much to the community
Mary DeMuth agreed, and bam actually went through it too, Jeremy Rogers and shecklers soft ass should of been at the top of list Tbh can’t hate on Nyjah for being talented and rich tho. Life isn’t always about fun, work hard play hard, look at that fool now driving foreigns living in a big ass house with white bitches in the pool, I want that life if skating will get me there
I lived in philly for years and always ran into bam and his crew...he was indeed a doucher for years at the height of jackass
the skating community can be one of the most toxic communities but also one of the most supportive, it sucks that some people get discouraged by the bad parts
Still didn't understand why Rob is hated
same with bam
@@greed777 well I kinda understand that. He was an asshole tho funny but an ass. I'm glad that bam is doing better and getting life back on track
@@greed777 Bam was fundamentally just an american teenage bum, never understood why is he in the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games. Seemd like a guy who made most of his fame by his teenager craziness (associated with Jackass mentality) than of his skateboarding skills. However he seems to be a more grown up and serious guy nowadays (understandably), so I wouldn't wanna bash him now.
Jevon McCorkle I agree with you if it wasn't for Rob skating wouldn't be recognized/making money
Rob is hated becuase of being a jerk on street dreams but people don't understand that he was only portraying a character for the movie. Plus he already admitted he felt bad for being a jerk character but haters gnna hate...
Wait wait so there mad at rob for helping others hmmmm
There's a lot of hate in the Skateboard world, or should I say there's a lot of pricks in the skateboard world?
yeah man skatersthat arent succussful just hate on the successful skaters i swearrrr
Its sport, of course theres going to be people other people dont like for whatever reasons.
too many trendy sjw cucks in skateboarding these days, bunch of sheep..
Little bit of column A
Little bit of column B
I kinda get why people call rob a sellout, but that doesn't bother me. The man built a completely free park in my somewhat small town.
i agree! i think he's a cool guy and he's done a ton for the skate community
I like Rob too.
Are you talking about the park in Louisiana
@@The177Hunter yeah, in shreveport.
Yeah, he bought back Alien Workshop. He put out a legit skating movie. His cartoon was questionable though.
Skateboarding is a very hate inflicting community and we can all admit that
Every sport is like that. Athletes are highly competitive and it's funny how people are surprised by it.
They are also really supportive though
That’s not necessarily true, most of the skateboarding community is actually very nice and supportive and everyone’s just tying to have fun.
I wish skateboarding was taken way more serious because it truly is something hard to do
Where's Eric Sparrow?
@@rhoncuscaseus9402 LMAO!
Hahahahahahaha!!!! Im STILL mad at Eric Sparrow
Ah yes. Tony Hawk Underground
Lmaooo
hahaha LMAO!
Skateboarders: we want skating to be main stream!!
Rob Dyrdek: Ill make it happen:
Skateboarders: lmao SELLOUT! Poser!
I don't hate Nyjah but I don't like watching him skate in competitions because the odds of him taking gold are so high. And for him being such a good skater he's kind of boring to watch. He's like the Floyd Mayweather of skating.
Michael Bush .... or Rodney Mullen when he was freestyle skateboarding back in the 1980s....
dfss csss - ehh, I can kinda agree to that, sure... why not. 🤷🏽♂️
Or GS warriors of skating
@HeadshotTatertot93 Exactly, when did being good at something make people hate them, including the "GS warriors of skating" comment. I've skated for over 20 years, and have never had a problem with Hawk, White, Muska, Sheckler etc. How can anyone who calls themselves a skater be upset that some have managed to make a really good living off of doing what they love? Don't have to like the individuals to enjoy the athleticism. As far as not liking Huston cause he's cocky... In his teens he was already better than most pro skaters can ever even imagine being. Of course he's gonna be full of himself.
@@bulldawgirwin8384 I just always hype to see what kind of crasy move they can pull, Hell sometimes just olieing on one of those bars would be hell
You forgot Rodney Mullen...
oh wait, no... everybody loves Rodney 😊
They hated him in the 80s

I think Ali Boulala is One of the coolest skaters ever.
It's heart breaking that while being Young and incredibly stupid he ended up killing his best friend. Such a tragic event.
Yeah definitely misguided hate there, wtf for sure.
Calling someone a sellout=jealousy
Don’t hate the player.
Bam is a god damn cultural icon. If you were born in the 80's Bam was a big part of some of life's happy times.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around how anyone can really hate Rob
Look up his ridiculously childish beef with Daniel Tosh. As one example.
I just think he’s a douchebag
@Phony Mex Bro it's an opinion relax. I don't like him because of the way he acts. Trying to start a fistfight over the internet over some jokes told by a comedian. I also generally don't like his personality. It's not a fact, it's an opinion.
it seems that skaters aren't very good at driving
lmao
Not when they're fuckin hammered
i think drunk people are not very good at driving lol
Disappointment
Skaters are low key nuts
Who tf hates nyjah I love the guy 😂.
Also ppl hate rob dyrdek I love the guy skateboarding and his show
JTrillZ BooFed I may be wrong but Nyjah said that women don’t belong on a skateboard. It was in a Thrasher interview. I’m not trying to hate on him or anything
Leahna Chavez
Who cares, all the women pros suck ass at skating.
One of his best friends is one of the best girl skaters
@@ashmyblunt lol you see why people hate nyjah?
Christian Steinbach leticia bufoni? And she’s bad ass
honestly, some people just oversaturate the term “sellout”. while yes, there are people who unfairly and greedily capitalize on their careers, many are just trying to achieve their dreams and make it out of the bends. everyone has their own version of success, so try to be a little considerate and appreciative that some people are successful in the skateboarding world. not to mention they worked HARD to get to where they are.
Security guards when they read the title:
Ahem, hold my baton
I hopped my High School fence to skate during the weekend a few years ago. Then stunned me constantly that my shirt caught on fire. In court, they skipped the part where I was on fire and charged me for B&E. I love the law system.

I dont think ali deserves to be on this list, it was more tragic than anything
Yeah man, poor bloke. I honestly doubt his dead friend would hate him for it.

Thats why he's called "the great one". Mullen is a legend. 👍😁
Mullen is the best skater ever to date... I could watch him for hours
Mullen is the best and from a totally different generation so he's not a dick.
Mullen is awesome. He literally acts like a super chill stoner, even when he's not stoned.
Rodney is skateboarding. Chad muska is a dick head Born in Az but Claims he was born in California.
*Basketball Fans* - "All NBA players sellouts"
*Skateboarders* - "I see what you did there"
I'm sorry, did you just say Mike wazowski??
When I was into skating I idolized people like Bam and Rob. Theyre my childhood and brought me so much joy. I even loved seeing young skaters like Ryan and Nyjah doing their thing. It’s crazy that as soon as the guys realized they can make a serious career out of something they love, people start to show hate
Nyjah deserves all the money he gets the fact that he started skating at four years old is amazing and he is very talented and I bet you have never seen his back story
Sadly I would add Leticia Bufoni here. I really admire her consistency but a lot of people hate her because of similar reasons they hate Nyjah.
She is so childish. I just got intonskating and seeing her lose her shit after losing to a japanese teenager and throwjng tantrums afterwards wasnt ideal
All this talk of sell out when Tony hawk sold out to Wal-Mart
Does getting his own ride at six flags count as selling out? Cause I'd happily jump on that board to success
@@Soldmysoulforablurayplayer Tony Hawk famous from the game. While true skater hails Rodney as the G.O.A.T. of skateboard for inventing basic skating
Ali boulala is still one of my all time favorites
Ali, bam and rob should not be here. I hated ali at first but seeing how fucked up his life became after the accident made me feel sad for him. Rob's and bam's shows were really funny and if you followed bams life/career for a while you'll notice he was always more of an entertainer than a pro-skater in todays sense. Rob made smart decisions and he tried to make skateboarding more acceptable as a sport. I dont hate him for that.
👏
People don’t really know this or don’t think about it but rob is a pretty smart dude. I’d say that he even has some business sense. He made a practical decision that would do nothing but benefit him and the other people involved. I can’t hate someone for choosing to do good for themselves.
Truth
Who fucking cares enough to hate a skater who is good at skating and hasn’t murdered anybody?
Great vid, as a skater from late 80s early 90s, for me the sell out mainstream "Americanised" version of skating is an unfortunate by product of skating. As soon as people were "trying" to become sponsored or professional instead of skating for fun with your friends, it destroyed the honesty of skating. Alot of the ones mentioned in this video were/are the instigaters of this movement.. Long live free skating.
How dare people who skateboard for a living treat it like a job?? 🤔
Okay, Im actually upset Bam is on this list. He’s my biggest influence growing up, the reason I skateboard, and the reason I’m still skating. Yes he’s done some shitty things but he is and always will be my favorite skater.
You are upset that someone else dislikes him. Seems like a waste of energy.
This got mentioned in this months thrasher lmaooooooo
