Straight to the point and never missed a section. Thanks man...👍👍👍
one of the best elaborated and to the point tutorial without any extra misc. info. hats off to u dear , keep up the good work :) Cheers mate !!!
Tutorials dont get better than this! :) Excellent!!
Thanks man! Awesome job. Love the way my terminal looks now.
very informative, helpful, and educational. You the man Quentin, much appreciated brothaman
Thank you very much.
Thank you so much. I was taking the CodeWithMosh git class and wanted to find a way to make my terminal look similar to his. This got it close enough.
Great job. Took your time & were detailed so I can easily follow along. Not like some other videos by bozos speeding through. Only note is to undo everything you did before stepping through. Your icons came up b/c you went through the steps already so I got thrown off for a second when mine didn't but other than that, awesome.
Hi! Thanks for the tutorial! For the "Enable Transient Prompt?" section, if enabled, then when you execute a command, then the pretty visual prompt (with the directories) and leave the ">" with the previous command. If disabled, it will keep the visual prompt along with the previous command.
Thank you!
thanks, i been trying this almost for a month and youre video help me a lot im really greatfull
You are welcome!
Exactly what was needed. Thank you!
Very well, explained. Thanks man!
Subscribed ! Helpful Video , now terminal is looking way better !❤️
Thanks for the sub!
Thanks so much. This really helped. Should have read the comments first before spending 2-3hours trying to fix my default terminal
Got sidetracked from your react tutorial wondering how your terminal looked so cool. Never thought I'd spend over an hour customizing my terminal lol, back to learning react!
Glad I could help!
Hi! Thanks for the tutorial. It was very helpful.
Subscribed... 😁 the video is easy and straight forward 👍
Thank you
Thank you! Also, nice to have the instructions for changing font in VS Code :)
Glad it helped!
Thanks, for the tutorial it was really helpful
The best tutorial out there
I appreciate that.
thank you very much, i have understand so much while watching your video
That was awesome 👍
Very helpful thank you
Hi Quentin, Amazing tutorial.. I was able to customize everything as per your video but I'm getting one '?' when I move to my git repo folder. This part is not covered in this video so I'm not sure what's the issue. I'm seeing the formatted line as " ~/folder/testrepo on master ?1" Icons are visible for all the squares but I can't figure out what is "?1" over here. Could you please help?
Amazing tutorial
Glad you think so!
Delivery 100%. Answered troubleshooting questions too.
Thank you. ☺️
This is very informative thanks
Thank you
Thank your so much ✌
Yo bro I downloaded your color scheme, it's dope!
Glad you like it
Nice tutorial, very clearly presented. I use a similar setup in iTerm2 with Fish Shell and Oh My Fish, which works well for my needs. But if I were advising a beginner I would probably suggest they follow your setup.
Thanks. Yea to be honest I was super comfortable with powerlevel9k. ☺️
But so many developers I work with still use a raw Z shell
Thank you!
thank you man
thankyou verymuchhh. that's very helpfull
Love u bro
Hi! Great Video!
Thank you.
So good. Thank you.
So glad to hear that from you.
@@QuentinWatt So I'm making a 2nd install per your video on a newer computer. And I got this error when executing the open ~/.p10k.zsh command: "A session ended very soon after starting. Check that the command in profile "Default" is correct." Have you got a tutorial for that ?:) The newer Mac (Ventura) is the one showing this error. My old macbook pro (Mojave) operated exactly inline with your video.
zomg - I just needed to quit (again) and now my ability to remove right-side time stamps is working. Never mind. Sorry. And...thanks again.
Thank you so much🙏
You're welcome 😊
Thank you.
Hey quentin ! What should i learn after JS, should i go for bootstrap or PHP. Btw love your videos ❤️
Build a JavaScript web app in Vue or React. Then learn Node.js
Thanks I subscribed. Quite an accent you have there, sounds like Aussie/So Africa/US mix.
Well, Iterm2 looks great and Homebrew mostly works on macOS 11. Now to learn coding. Suggestions?
Thanks for the sub!
I do most of my projects with Laravel, and occasionally a Vue or React SPA.
thank you sir
Thanks for to tutorial
You're welcome
thanks for the tutorial! i'm running iterm2, on the latest sonoma os, and the the is not rendering properly. is that anything i can do to fix it?
Got this setup and working, but how do it go back and edit the transient prompt ? I dont like the space that it creates between each prompt every time
I ran a command
Following the instructions, I am able to fix the VScode terminal. Just wonder is it possible to fix X11 terminal as well?
thanks
Hi! Thanks for the tutorial. Question: if I want to restart all the settings from scratch again, how do I go about it?
There are commands to uninstall it or reconfigure it. Please check the gist linked in the description
Cool setup, but is solarized theme safe for eyes 👁?
I prefer the darker themes, but I do wear blue light glasses to help protect my eyes.
Hi Quentin! I made these changes you shared here for iTerm2 + added 'imported' your flat colors to the panel with no problems however I cannot figure out why I'm now unable to customize my cursor text color to anything but color white but can change color just fine on everything else in iterm2 under the preferences. Does this custom modification make white cursor text the only color allowed just wondering? Any response to help me understand be appreciated.. Thank you.
Check Preferences > Profiles > Colors > Cursor Colors
I think that would help you out. Not sure what you were trying to change.
Hello bro, what did you do to have even your iterm2 menu bar(the bar that has the close, maximize and minimize buttons) to be dark to? In fact how do you change your iterm2 menu bar color?
I think it's just what it looks like in Mac OSX dark mode.
Hi ! Thanks for this video ! All is good but i have the problem with the Syntax highlighting. When i run the command line it's work, but when i quit the terminal and open it, the Syntax highlighting it's gone.
So, i can i do to fix this icon bug ?
Thanks
Sounds like
1. the terminal either didn't restart correctly
or
2. perhaps the file location used to add the syntax highlighting plugin wasn't correct.
Try `source [location where homebrew saved the plugin]`
thx
Getting error while trying to implement syntax highlighting that No such directory or file found "source /usr/local/share/zsh-syntax-highlighting/zsh-syntax-highlighting.zsh"
How to enable username(not hostname) on prompt ??
Great tutorial! I can't open vs code with the command "code". Do I have to change something?
the same problem
stackoverflow.com/questions/29955500/code-not-working-in-command-line-for-visual-studio-code-on-osx-mac
You can always open it manually.
The command is part of the VS code installation, so you can try re-installing and ticking the box to include the command when prompted.
I had this problem also and finally tracked it down to a bad installation of Python 2! Reinstalling Python 2 fixed the problem for me. It turns out Apple used Python in some of its app scripts. A big clue for me was >python--version resulted in an illegal instruction_ Great video Quentin
i am not getting the proper icon of arrow I don't know why I did the exact steps you did
My powerline config wizard is not showing the prompt style question. Where can I configure this?
Sounds like you're doing something wrong, try following the video again or you can use the steps in Kevin's Gist linked in the video description.
once I customized, how can I re-customize it like the prompt heads?
how to use your dark-flat-iterm-colors in my terminal? (not iTerm)
Thankyou
Your color scheme import gives error
Import failed. The selected color could not be read or did not contain valid color scheme :(Thet selected file could not be read or did not contain a valid color scheme.
I don't have Sharp option inside Prompts Heads
can u please give me code for it, so that I can manually put it in .p10k.zsh file
Hello,
I cannot download your dark flat item colors.
do I need to pull from your github? it does not show download button.
You can also download as a zip file.
@@QuentinWatt Hello, Thank you for the response. I still run into a problems with my iterm2 and getting the ??(questions marks) marks even after changing the fonts to powerlines.
I rewatched video 3times to see what I missed and seems like I followed all the steps but my iterm still does not recognize the font even with both fonts are set to powerline.
hey I tried to follow all of your steps but when I quite iterm2 and reopen it. It tells me that there is no such file or dir. so I am a bit confused can some one help
i died a little inside when he said doesn't know debian logo considering i use it everyday
:( I should be ashamed.
My iterm is all good by the mac_terminal doesn't show up the new icons as it showed in yours. It is still using the pervious prompt.
How can I get mac_terminal show those icons.?
Not really. You can change the font, and that may help a little, but these customisations are for Iterm2.
Do you get repeating streatch lines when you resize iterm2?
No sir, not on mine.
First of all when i try to open .zshrc , it says its a directory.. when i go in the directory, i see this file ' .zshrc-omztemp' and if i vim it then i see what you are showing in video. Not sure why its doing that ?
secondly, when i quit the terminal and open it again, i loose all my settings and i have to type again (source..zshrc-omztemp ) to enable it again. Please advise
The temp file will be because it's already open somewhere. You don't want to edit the temp file. I don't think .zshrc is a directory. You can try look it up in finder if you unhide all hidden files though.
@@QuentinWatt it is a directory..
drwxr-xr-x 3 Fridi staff 96B Oct 9 08:02 .zshrc
another thing is that when i ssh into a remote host, i dont see my settings anymore.. is there anyway to translate that to remote hosts as well
After following this tutorial, all my commands stopped working, like conda, pip etc. Any help?
I made a blunder somewhere. I can I reverse back to default so that I can try again from start?
I believe there are instructions to uninstall and set back to default in the gist, linked in the description.
@@QuentinWatt Thanks. I was able to fix it. Basically it was the common font issue everyone face, which you already showed in the video.
How can I change apple logo?
what theme are you using in vscode?
Community Material Theme Darker.
@@QuentinWatt and what icon theme are you using
Good work done, but I still see squares on my Vscode terminal only
Hi Seth, have you tried following the steps in the Gist linked in the video description?
downloaded the flat-color file. But iTerm did not like to import it??? any help?
It needs to be .iterm-colors extension and bit .txt
You can simply rename the file extension and it’ll work.
@@QuentinWatt thank you :-9
Whats your vs code theme?
Material theme darker
i didn't see that apple icon on mac
Your iterm settings needs to be using the correct font or icons won't show up. Please check that portion of the documentation linked in the video description.
brew install --cask iterm2
As of 2021, installation was changed
Thanks.
How to restart process again (for configure)
p10k configure
6:07 at this point i am seeing a question mark and box instead of that colour arrow in your screen
Sounds like the fonts were not installed correctly.
You write this command to the end of the .zshrc file. 15:57
hello i stuck at 5:07 almost crying because it doesnt opens in vs code😭
I am not able to see the icons from the start!!! And its not resolving!!1
Then you're not using the correct font. Please check through that portion of the documentation.
if you put it to 1.5 he talks at a normal speed
this really uses a significant amount of battery life in my case and I had to uninstall.. is it just me or anyone else have the same problem?
I don't think it does, but maybe now that you have learned how to use the terminal, you are running more heavy processes than normal?
Doesn't know what a debian logo is... -_- really?
I know the software, but wouldn't recognise it by the logo. :)
I lost all terminal commands. thanks dude!
whoops?
I get a weird interrogation sign symbol where the colors go, what's this problem?
Sounds like the font wasn't working.
