Should change laws that allow police to confiscate the person's automobile and sell it as reparations for all the past packages that were stolen.

I have a large gated property and delivery drivers were just dropping packages over the fence by the gate. So, I put a large steel box outside the gate, with instructions to lock the padlock on it after putting the package inside. It took several calls to get them to start putting packages INSIDE the box, instead of just putting them on top of it. But, no matter how many times I called or talked with the drivers, they always "forgot" to secure the padlock! Luckily I'm retired and my dogs alerted me each time someone was at the gate, so I never had anything stolen. But, these drivers seemed hell bent on making it easy for someone to steal the packages!

I set up a lid with a latch that locks when the lid is closed. I leave it open with a sign on the inside of the lid saying to place the delivery in the box and shut the lid.

Those kickback bribes from the porch pirates to the drivers aren't going to pay themselves you know

@@rs232killer It wouldn't have helped. With the drivers we have working around here, they wouldn't shut the lid or just set the package on the ground in front of it!

I don't understand why people allow packages to be left in such a visible location? Find a secluded spot that cannot be seen from the street. I know if they are following the truck they see the delivery, but not all porch pirates follow trucks. They take the most visible packages.

You can see the car following the driver. I saw a video where two different cars were following a driver and the porch pirates were fighting over the packages. Funny

Three years ago in an affluent neighborhood near us. Porch pirates were being caught and taught a lesson by residents. Apparently repeated corporal punishment like dislocated ankles and deviated septums were a bigger deterrence then jail. Package theft was reduced to near zero....

The thing is that deliberately sending a few packages that have real high value items in them with tracker tags that respond to a ping but set silent would be a real ticket to catching who is receiving this stolen property.
Communities could start moving some real and dummy cameras around to catch these thieves. Some cameras would have to be set up in areas where people would mask or put stolen plates on cars.
Cooperation with local gas stations and community scores by having photos of the criminals with masks. Yet they still buy soda, bread, etc. More are caught by this secondary identification and follow up to catch them in the act.

Police were unable to apprehend the porch. Pirate as they had four squad cars and eight officers surrounding an individual with a video camera.

It’s a crime ring! Aren’t there tougher laws for organized crime? Oh wait, the supreme court just ruled that organized crime is legal!
