So I use this with my children's shows, Then use MCEBuddy to auto clip the first.last 6 seconds, remove ads, then move into plex folders with filebot. All automatic other than clicking record. Since only 720p, it is only for the old 80s-2000s cartoons. Not going to waste the time for proper HD or UHD shows.

I only really used it for hulu, and i really want it for crunchyroll, anyway they support 1080p now
720P and 1080P is not much of a difference. You are pretty lame.
if I don't need to download to my PC, can I watch the recorded cloud tv show on my big screen tv? and does it still take 2 hr.?
Be careful, we bought the lifetime through pc also a few months back, it worked for about 6 or 7 downloads, then it just kept giving an error every time we tried to have it record a show or movie. We uninstalled via playon's request, same issue, after 2 months of trying to get them to fix it, they finally just said nothing they could do. We have the tablet app that uses credits you have to purchase, that works fine.
Yea. It is a kinda sketchy app. Doesn't feel secure and feels very old
Yea I don't think they put too much work into the desktop one. They just made a new one but is has the same problems

Yeah so I have a lifetime home subscription. DOES NOT WORK at least on the channel I am trying to use (Paramount+). It misses episodes and always fail when I try to download. On Cloud it works but you only get 30 credits/month, which means you get 10-30 downloads a month depending on quality. A little low, I'd say....
Netflix and other streaming services are already starting to stream some shows in 4K. Tv makers are already making the switch from selling 4K tvs to 8K tvs. Does PlayOn have any plans to improve it's play-back resolution to anything higher than 720p?
They support 1080p, started it about 6 months ago
Playon is no longer offering lifetime licenses and has moved to a lower quality 720p recording for Playon home only offered as a subscription service.
Sounds sketchy. EULA? I remember some JAVA/Adobe thing that recorded RUclips, it worked for a couple months? Now I think it's gone?
Are you able to edit the MP4 files you download? I'm looking for a way to record small clips from Hulu to do a review on my youtube channel of a specific show... So I don't mind if I have to download the whole episode, I just want to know I can edit in Premiere Pro? Thanks for the review!

Lon - any chance of a 2023 update on PlayON? - maybe even more relevant now that all the streamers are increasing prices and cutting family sharing.
Especially with the ongoing available cloud services I just don't want to go backwards with having to store to my pc and HD. Fine for some but not for me.
So why not just download screen cap software and pay nothing to record. Their website wants ten cents per recording. And what happens if the stream buffers? Is that recorded also?
screencap software doesn't seem to work on many streaming services. I just get a black screen..
Once you got the full version can you watch any video on windows media player ?
Ok I use playon all the time. I love it it lets me take movies and tv shows on the road or a plane and keep my sanity. Just make sure you have a lot of space on your phone or whatever you use coz I have GB of tv shows and movies on my phone. So I’m ready for anything.
Can we edit the vidoes we downloaded or just watch on stream ?
Why can't Amazon prime give a digital copy of your movies that you paid for so I can keep on hard drive
Amazon used to have the Amazon unbox application that would allow you to download a copy of any digital movie / tv program that you have in your library. They stopped doing that. Really angered me.

If the quality is not good then whats the point? People want 4K etc. Then the next best option is screen recording software. I'm only researching this as torrents is very hard in the UK. Very hard, i.e Virgin Media my ISP is now throttleing users who use P2P services even though i use NORD VPN! There is always a way around something till it gets abused and busted! Just saying.....

I only do 1080P when it's a good movie or I think it's a good movie. Shows and TV, I normally do 720 and honestly even though I could use the pc to record them all its such a effort turning on my pc.
Just find my self out and about and just add a recording for later.... Unless I set up remote login and stuff but I'm too lazy and it costs me..... Sad I know
But if it's a whole series then I will use the pc and set up a long list of things to record
Most steaming services let you download for later viewing. Why you need playOn?
Because not all streaming services provide their content on demand. Examples: AT&TNow
No 1080p is a deal breaker.

Great review as always. Thanks for going into detail about file format and resolution. 720p doesn’t really get me exited. If time isn’t an issue I have heard of people buying fancy cameras and setting it up in front of their TV’s while recording a show/movie. The upfront cost of equipment might be expensive but the resolution can be as high as 4K.
@sguzman55, about 6 months ago they impletemented 1080p, now we need to push them to do 4k, but this got so much better when they started doing 1080p
@@Krazybone There is not much of a difference between 720P and 1080P. I understand if it is 720P to 4k.

2millions pixel vs 700k that's more then 2 and almost 3 times more detail.
However it does depend on the source and device your watching.
I can spot 1080P and 720P a mile away. It's blurry... But I find it harder to see the 4k I have to really pay attention... Plus a lot of movies are not always in full 4k sometimes a lot lower and I'm no expert but the movie industry use so many different cameras that often only some scenes are 4k.
Like I read a marvel film was 1 clip 4k but they say the film is UHD and sell it that way... Yet 90+% is 1080P or 1440P
Hell, it doesn't work anyway. Everything I try to record from any of my subscriptions fails about a minute and a half into whatever it is recording. Stay away from PlayOn total bullshit that doesn't work.

It is fraud to enter into a legally binding contract with intent to violate that contract. It is felony conspiracy to aid or abet someone to violate a legally binding contract. So indeed playon is illegal. But prosecution for these type of cases is nearly impossible.
Playon is as legal as a VCR.
