EZ-Go golf carts are generally very reliable and will last for decades, given the right maintenance and a little know-how. Last week, I was out for a ride, when suddenly the cart quickly came to a screeching halt. I smelled a heavy burning odor, not unlike a clutch burning out. That meant one thing - the electromagnetic brake was failing!
When these brakes fail, you get little notice, and I was lucky enough to limp it home. Had it not released, I would have had to disassemble the cart on the street and flip the switch on the controller to tow mode, along with pinning out connectors 1/3 an 2/4 in order to release the battery pack from the motor, in order for it to freewheel.
As I state in the video, crucial parts should be OEM. Although more expensive, they do last longer and are more reliable.
