This feels like a gospel song. Elvis loved gospel. He talent surely was a gift from God. Love Elvis forever, miss him. I don't believe he ever wrote a song, but he sure could sing anything.

in Elvis Presley's case he was such a legend that every songwriter of his generation did their best to get a song into his hands. It was a sure fire thing that Elvis would turn your song into gold. There are of course the popular Elvis hits that everyone knows but there is a mountain of other lesser known songs that are all gems and I'm glad you're exploring those. And you're right that he was a consummate balladeer. In fact the more I've listened to Elvis over 60 years the more I think his slow songs are his best work IMHO.
Elvis had song writer's that wrote for him and of course he would make changes if he felt something worked better for him. For the most part, Elvis was his own Producer and Arranger. He also would cover songs he especially liked.
Love Coming Down was recorded the year before Elvis Died.

After his breakup with Priscilla , many of his songs were very introspective ... he moved on but seemed to like the songs that explored feelings of loss and regret . Love this little known song ! Thanks !

Elvis never wrote any of his songs he recorded about 900 songs everyone like you said that everyone would give him a song they knew he could make a hit out of it.
