- If I have to stay at home, so why not make good use of the time? I order stone from the local landscaping supplier and go to work. Watch as I make a small dry-stacked stone wall to define the natural areas in my front yard. It was an easy project, that just requires a fair amount of labor.

Looks good. The negative comments should not bother you. This isn't a "retaining" wall. It's a simple border. I like it.
Wow, very impressive. Nice to see a real person tackle and finish this successfully. You've given this old lady the courage to do this. THX!
Thank you! 😊 It was easy enough. A bit labor intensive as you are moving several tons of stone, albeit one stone at a time. Thanks for watching!
Wow Brian I’m really impressed, I wouldn’t have a clue or the knowledge and skill to even envisage such a project. Your house looks love,y and that wall makes it look fantastic. Great job. Hope Rosie doesn’t see this as she’ll have me doing chores rather than just sitting about. Miss you guys , stay safe. X
Thanks 👍 The hardest part was physically moving over 3,000 lbs of concrete block and stone, piece by piece, and positioning it on the wall. My neighbor helped, which made it go faster! Glad to see you are still producing videos despite the "lockdown." I was just looking through Facebook photos last night and came across quite a few SPiS crew and Fly2High crew "meet ups!" Brought back many great memories! Stay safe and healthy Jag!!
Bill is cracken me up right now. I loved your video. What a beautiful job.
this is exactly what i've been looking for!!!!!! thank you! stay well!
Thank you and thanks for watching!

Damn now that’s what I call a garden edge, it’s gorgeous!
Thank you for the nice comment and for watching!!
After looking at your wall I guess mine is okay. I wasn’t sure about filling in the spaces around some of the bricks. Yours are more uniform in terms of their thickness. Very nice.
Beautiful, thanks for sharing! Looks easy peasy. Can’t wait to do this around my chimney garden bed.
ah man I love a dry stone wall. ten points my man
Thank you sir and thanks for watching!!
Back for a second look, I think I am ready to try this now, using your method. Thank you for sharing.
Posts some pics when done! Thanks for returning and watching!
I like it, im not this fancy lol i just went to the river and got rocks lol but after 100 trips of my family getting sent fishing i got it how iwant it 😂 i love the natural look. You have a big area, mine is alot smaller
How well has this worked keeping weeds away?
We have a stacked stone garden bed that has been here long before any of us has lived in the house (over a decade so I don’t know who installed it) but it constantly gives me issues where it is falling apart and there are weeds growing from the cracks, plus a lot of stone is either missing or got grass over growing into my flower beds.
wow looks great, that foundational block is a great idea! saved you from using even more expensive stone. total of 4 pallets of stone at $188 per pallet. is not bad ibet you save over $1000 by DIY it.
Excellent👍 Making a small border little by little around a spruce using stack stones and river stones from the beach. I know I need to restack them. Helpful to see someone else's work for reference.
Sounds great and thanks for watching!!
i can't wait to start: summer covid project 2020! i can DO this!!
Yes you can! Thanks for watching!
God Bless your beautiful home and garden!!!
Really enjoyed your video .
How many Linear Feet did 1 pallet (1 ton im guessing) cover? and at what height?
Flying Brian you made me start crying. That was beautiful. God bless you.
Brian, I'm researching a similar project. I'm intrigued by the concrete paver base, but I'm wondering, 3 years later, if you've had any problems with them shifting. Have you had any trouble with the dry stack method vs. mortared stone?
Beautiful job! My husband and I will be doing this project (a smaller version) next weekend so I figured it would be easier to do some research (and youtube some videos) ahead of time. Enjoyed watching. Looks amazing!
You can do it! Glad this helped and thanks for watching!!
Nice wall my friend. I see you're somewhat close to us, we're in Locust NC... anyways, keep up your awesome vids.
Thanks for the nice comment and thanks for watching!
Hey Brian im going to let everyone no dirty base under the stone is by far cheaper and just as stable as concrete blocks. Also make sure to fill 1 inch clean behind the wall for drainage.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
How you prevent weeds from growing through stones ? I have large weeds buckling all my stones and knocking them over ...
You've done a great job there...I like it
Thank you! Cheers and thanks for watching!
Great looking wall! Can this method be used with larger granite blocks? They are all irregular sizes and shapes. I’ve been looking for the best way to create a foundation underneath them for my boarder.
That’s beautiful!!
Thank you for the kind compliment and thanks for watching!
I watched anyway yolo !!!!
Very nice Brian! I love it.
Thanks so much and thanks for watching!
I have to restock thousands of these around the front and back borders. I want them to stay in place, because they are all falling and uneven. Too much for a 100 lb 4’ 9” woman with a bad back! 🤞Any suggestions as to how I can make some stay?
Cement
Nice effort, but Nope. That’s not even close to what it should look like..I know it’s a lot of work, not stable and not matched properly when stacked out.
Very nice 👍
Thank you 👍 and thanks for watching!
Looks good
Thanks! And thanks for watching!!
Roughly, how thick was each slab of rock?
How many pallets in total did you have to use?
It took a total of 4-pallets of stone. Thanks for watching!
@@FlynBrian thank you for the quick reply! Looks really good!
looks good !
Glad you like it and thanks for watching!
As long as the mower never bumps it!
That's lovely :)
Thanks for the nice comment and thanks for watching!!
Nice job! What type of stone ?
It's called "Swiss Sparkle" and we got it at Visions Landscaping in Monroe, North Carolina. Thanks for watching!
What kind of stone did you use for the dry stack wall?
Do you have any advice on how to lay it? Bigger pieces on the bottom?
Gosh! I didn't give it a whole lot of thought. I would pull a stone out of the wagon, look at its shape, and find a place where it basically fit. I would say, "yes," I did tend to lay larger, flatter stones first as a base. As I took stones out of the wagon I would look for a place there it roughly fit together. And by "roughly," I mean just that. There are plenty of voids and openings throughout the wall. But that is part of its charm. Besides, because no mortar is used, you can always go back and make some fine adjustments after everything is laid down. Thanks for watching!
Cant the grass just find its way through the cracks in the stone? Our bermuda can practically grow on concrete. ahhhh
HOW MUCH WAS A PALLET???? THANKS in advance for your response great job!!
A pallet of this type of stone was $188 which contained approximately 1-ton of stone. Thanks for watching!!
Where did you buy this from? I am looking at something similar and they were quoting 500$
Looks great. How many ft. of stone total do you think you have there?
There is a total of 210 linear feet of wall. We used a total of 4 pallets of stone and the average height is about 8-in in height. Thanks for watching!
@@FlynBrian Thanks for responding. I'm planning on replacing my metal ones here in the next few months and was curious on how far a pallet would go.
Where did you get the stone? What kind/thickness?
I got the stone from Visions Landscape Supply & Design in Monroe, NC. The stone is called "Swiss Sparkle" and is quarried just the way you see it on the video. In flat irregular shapes that vary in size.
If you don’t mind how much was it for the stones you bought I’m needing to do the same here in Tex’s
A pallet (which I believe was 2,000 lbs) was $188 at a local landscaping supply. I used 4 pallets for this project. Thanks for watching!
About how much this job would cost me for my home??
Beautiful how much it cost lineal feet
Don't know how much per foot. What you see in the video took 4 pallets of stone. Each pallet was $188. (Two years ago. I have no doubt it more now with the crazy inflation and all!)
@@FlynBrian thanks , congrats looks nice, I am a handyman here in Florida, doing a project hope will look good
Love your wall, love the look of stacked stone. We have just started talking about a wall in our front yard. Could we ask how much this wall cost you?
total of 4 pallets of stone at $188 per pallet. That and the effort to lay it all down. By the way, you really don't need the concrete block base. My neighbor made the same type of wall and just laid the stone on the ground and you can't tell any difference. Thanks for watching!
Fly'n Brian ... that cost is very doable for us.... did you purchase them from stone company or big box store? Thanks again
Thank you kind Sir, I will be doing this for a neighbor/friend today and I was worried we'd have to go buy the blocks, I'll make it work by creating a good, grass free soil foundation to evenly lay the stones.
About how much stone did you need for the distance?
There is a total of 210 linear feet of wall. We used a total of 4 pallets of stone and the average height is about 8-in in height. Thanks for watching!
Hey, what's the name of the stones you used for the wall?
They were called Swiss Sparkle.
Good job
Thanks for the nice comment and watching!
What are the dimensions of concrete cap blocks?
3.625-in x 7.625-in x 15.625-in. Thanks for watching!
Unfortunately this wall was improperly built. The foundation should be a gravel base which does not allow the stones to rock. Also, when the stone was laid, base stones were not large enough and the stones laid on top of the base were laid end to end, and not front to back. As attractive as the wall is, it will not have strength and will not last.
Oh dear. A gravel base? No no. Just build straight off the soil.
What's the name of the stone you used?
It was called "Swiss Sparkle" by the seller which was Vision's Landscaping Supply in Monroe, NC. Thanks for watching!
Not bad!
I would go nuts .. stone are not even and semi flush .. look half finish to me anyway ... but good fondation
Can’t leave the house…lol
Looks good but not very strong or well built
covid, o masks ,close contact 😢
But did they die…
I gave this a "Thumbs Down" solely because of the rule-of-thumb...You're only as good as your foundation! If it wiggles, it's gonna fall. And the staked stones, like a puzzle, if the piece doesn't fit keep looking.
Nobody has any idea! Nice try though.
Here's a cool video for when you have to redo your wall: ruclips.net/video/RC-UQMM_CtY/видео.html
Don't tell me what not to watch!
Kuhr hat
Ouch that’s bad… nice try though
Sucks..sorry
Awful
