Do you know what cable to get to extend the MIC port to a flush mount port inside a vehicle? I’ve got the RJ45 extension working but apparently there’s a specific mic cable one has to get.
I'm trying to program mine now in the shack. I'm hooked up to a Ed Fong DBJ-2 and I'm monitoring a busy local repeater. The audio, factory default, In my opinion isn't any better than my VCG VR-N7500/BE-78 I'm using as base. I wish I could upload a pic of the two heads...500 vs 400. The 500 has a tiny touch screen and I have to use a pen thing. Looks like most options are off the function knob. I think the CFL common function list will be handy if I can get that programmed. I'm hopeful but not impressed.
I'm undecided on this one. If it did SSB I'd be happy to pay £650. I have a FTM-400 with Bluetooth and a FT-710. I use the FTM-400 as a base unit and a FT-5 mobile. I don't think I need another radio, beautiful as it is. Yeasu style is definately a thing. Icom is just knobs and buttons on a box. But I have an IC-705 and truely love it.😀
Not paying north of 400 bucks for any mobile radio. Like Marc said. USB Maybe???? Show of hands. How many drive around in VFO mode on Vhf/Uhf looking for a FM station???
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones The IC705 is another overpriced radio IMO. Take an IC7300, knock it down to 10w, remove the tuner, remove 4m and charge an extra £150-200 for it! Supposedly designed for portable outdoor use yet it doesn't even have an IP rating!? Portable radio is my favourite MO and the 705 was a bit of a disappointment for me. The first thing I looked at was the spec, price was secondary. Maybe I'm just too picky but If it had what I wanted I would gladly have paid the price and more for it.
Beings I despise my FT-3 so much, the screen similarities alone would keep my from getting the 500. I've had my ftm-400 for about 3 years and still don't have it figured out. The scope on the 500 seems pretty nice though compared to the 400. I have no use for a scope though so that featre is irrelevant. Nice looking, way over priced in my opinion.
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones In the video, the scope quality looks almost like a digital waterfall on an HF rig. The scope on my 400 looks like its Atari 2600 quality whereas the 500's appear to be a PS4 :) I love my 400, I have 3 of'em!
£630/40/50? for an FM only mobile rig!! 😂 Built in Bluetooth is good but it's decades old tech and it's cheap. The head unit looks bigger than the 400 despite a smaller display👎. I've had my 400 for a while now and quite like it, not perfect but no radio is. The 500 is £200 over price IMO👎. Nice box though!👍😂.
The new price of the ftm400 was over £400 without bluetooth the module costs nearly £100 so thts about £500 so for an extra £130 you get the latest Radio full dual band blue tooth ,pmg dual speaker dual cfm , fast touchscreen and scope its about right .
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones Well, I paid under £400 for mine, just. Yes, the Bluetooth board was around £100 (now even more expensive if you can find a new one) but that doesn't mean it's worth it. Even though I like my 400, primarily for the screen which is what attracted me, I'm not a C4FM fanboy. I find it can be inconsistent and unpredictable, the speech quality can range from almost perfect to heavily synthesised, robotic sounding. I see the 500 has a head mounted mic port which is a plus (bit of a pain when mobile mounting the 400). So, Bluetooth, head mic port, dual C4FM and a "latest radio" badge for an extra £200+. Not for me I'm afraid although it will sell no doubt. I think I paid round that price for my 891, a mobile, multi band, multi mode mobile, which I will give a big 👍 for, a great radio.
I think I'll wait for the new shack in a box that has SSB on all bands. It will show up later.
Yes be great buy £1300
Another great video Andreas, I am patiently waiting for mine. I guess Japan gets them first?
Yes you can buy them now in Japan.
Mine is 6' from me and I'm monitoring a repeater. . 1st impression after 24 hrs is it's an overpriced 300. Value your 400's like gold.
@@jackquack2261 Just curious what separates the FTM-400 from the 300 other than the large touchscreen?
I got mine Saturday, love it
Happy Times.

705 is the best
@@DavidS-iw4ei Exactly, FM operation is channelized. They're placing "looks" ahead of practicality.

I don't understand trading screen size for a huge VFO Knob.... That's a head scratcher!
They decided to make a new model the main problem is they got it so good with FTM400
dear,how pro -peace out-🤙
Lol
You are not able to change the language from Japanese to English?
Why not ?

Still cant rationalise the price difference with the 300.
The 300 will be more expensive than it is now.
Much more tech in head unit but yes 300 is good value.
Screen out after 1month
What happened.?
@digitalhamradioScanner sent it back to dealer made some good qso then it went black ⚫️ 🤔??
Lovely, just not for me as it cannot do weak signal modes.
There is a Per amp called Sdx
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones Sorry, I don't understand. Could you please explain?
I will keep my 400 and my 200
Yes seems sensible
The radio under it no competition the 705 600 pounds for that I don't think so way too expensive
Where are you getting a 705 for 600 pounds?? Thats about 745 usd. about 300 usd cheaper then I can buy one.
705 £1300
