@Graphic Vandalism Great List, man! Some real unique choices! I LUV that! I own the deluxe HC "edition of "High Moon v.1: Bullet Holes and Bite Marks," which I bought when it was 1st released back in 2017, & is so much fun! Its weird western make-up that is, at its core, a western, horror, & steampunk genre mashup w/some nice twists & suspence is just so enjoyable! The 2nd volume, "High Moon v.2: Wicked Ways," however, should've been out by now. Amazon lists v.2's release date as both "not yet been released" yet somehow, also April 9, 2019!🤔 Unfortunately, I'm beginning to worry it may never get released.😔 Have u heard any news about it? I also own "Streets of Glory," & I think it is fantastic! Your description of it-- "a moody, violent, & brutal tale" is right on the money! Ennis writes the hell outta this tale, & Wolfer's art is detailed, gruesome, gorgeous, & powerful! The art fits the story perfectly! I liked ur comparison to "True Grit." I also get the Peckinpah reference. It does, w/its violence & setting of a "wild west" coming to an end w/the 1900s, remind me some of "The Wild Bunch." But I have to say(even though it's considered by some in the western fan world as blasphemy) I've never been a real fan of that film. But it has its elements-- like its time period setting-- that have their appeal to me, & make for some strong & less common/typical western fare. But I much prefer this graphic novel/tpb to that film. And Joe Dunn is every bit the cool, likeable badass u described him as being! After seeing some of the art, & listening to ur descriptions, I may have to check out "Pretty Deadly" & "Drifter!" I've thought about getting the 3 "Loveless" tpbs in the past; but I read quite a few reviews that said it doesn't really go anywhere, & doesn't really even have an actual ending. They say it "just ends," w/various aspects left unexplained or simply not given any sort of conclusion whatsoever. Normally, while I like to read &/or listen to reviews... I, ultimately, don't let them determine my choices of what to buy & read(or watch, if talking films & tv shows). But there are just so many reviews saying this series abruptly ends, leaving plot threads wide open. Almost as if it were canceled early. But upon ur review here, I may track down the trades on Amazon or on comiXology. Would u say it has no ending? Great video, all around, bro! Was a lot of fun to watch, & ur enthusiasm comes thru in spades! That is important for me! It's something I really pay attention to when listening to or reading reviews: I ask myself if this reviewer seems passionate about this/these title(s)? And u do! Just for fun, & being a HUGE fan of westerns(comics, films, TV series-- & yes, "Deadwood" was such a treat! It was an emotional, entertaining, & fairly truthful(to a degree)take on the city//territory of the wild west w/dialog written by William Shakespeare, if he were to insert extremely filthy lines into his plays, lol! Utterly amazing show! So glad they were at least able to negotiate getting that "Deadwood: The Movie" done, w/virtually all of the original cast(those still alive at the end of season 3, that is, lol) that had to move quicker than normal... but gave the series the resolution, in most ways, that it needed.
If I were to name 5 more western titles that I really enjoy, they would be the following(I will limit myself to 5; but that, by no means, is indicative of how many great westerns are out there that I cherish(as I'm sure was the same frustration for urself, in having to limit urself to just 5). While Jonah Hex is one of my most favorite western character, w/some of the best stories I've read-- such as the HC, "Jonah Hex: No Way Back"(written by Justin Gray & Jimmy Palmiotti, w/art by co-creator & master, Tony DeZuniga) & the Vertigo miniseries tpb, "Jonah Hex: Two-Gun Mojo"(a wonderfully weird west take on Hex, written w/dark humor & bloody revenge by weird western-- among other genres-- writer extraordinaire, Joe R. Lansdale... the man responsible for the badass cult classic story(which led to a film that cemented its cult classic stature), "Bubba Ho-Tep," penciled by the super talented, old west aficionado, Tim Truman, & inked by expert artist, himself, Sam Glanzman)... I will try to list some lesser known titles:
1)A Man Named Hawken [IDW; B&W w/ gray tones; W=Ben Truman & Tim Truman; A=Tim Truman]: A gritty, weird, horror-flavored western & somewhat spaghetti western-ish brutal revenge tale!
2)The Sixth Gun [Oni Press; Color; Writers(& co-creators)=Cullen Bunn>most of the writing & Brian Hurtt>co-writer on some vols; Artists=Brian Hurtt(most vols), Tyler Crook(some stories + spinoff miniseries), Brian Churilla(spinoff miniseries), Mike Norton(spinoff miniseries), & A.C. Zamudio(spinoff miniseries)]: Quite possibly my favorite western/weird western EVER! It is completed(but a continuation series has released 2vols worth of material, as far as I know). In the completed, original series, there are 9 tpb vols of the main series + 4 spinoff/sidequel/prequel stories that make up 3 vols > so 12 tpb vols in all. I had them all, but sold them as the MASSIVE OHCs were released-- each w/tons of bonus festures! Thereare 6 Dlx OHC vols. I think that all 12 trades & the incredible 6 Dlx OHCs are still available on Amazon. This story is utterly EPIC! All of the characters are intriguing & fleshed out wonderfully, the narration & dialog are perfect in their delivery, the storytelling in words & art is, again, PERFECTION! And the tales build upon each other as each volume gives the reader some closure, yet is open enough that u are invited-- & are chomping at the bit-- to dive into the next book to find out where it's going, what'll happen! It has wild west action, adventure, horror & suspense(of the human & supernatural kind), fantasy aspects, constantly changing landscapes & towns/cities, & embodies all of the best elements of classic American westerns(ex: "Rio Bravo" & "The Magnificent Seven"), modern/revisionist westerns(ex:"Unforgiven" & "3:10 To Yuma"[(remake], as well as spaghetti westerns(ex: The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly" & "The Big Gundown")! I could go on forever describing how epic & amazing this series is, but I'll stop... as I've gotten to wordy as it is, lol.
3)Rawhide Kid: Slap Leather [Marvel MAX; Color; W=Ron Zimmerman; A=John Severin]: Some western fans absolutely hate this miniseries(I own the HC)as it is a humorous-- yet plenty violent & bloody-- somewhat satire in which they chose to make Rawhide gay. I found it very humorous(w/out bashing or insulting to gay people-- at least that was my takeaway, as a heterosexual man, of it. I don't think it would be offensive to guy men, but I can't speak for them. But I found the story funny, satirical, & w/interesting characters & fun shootouts. Not to mention, it has one of the gods of art-- especially in drawing westerns-- in the genius that is the late, great John Severin! His work here is ASTOUNDING!
4)Tex: The Lonesome Rider [DH; Color; W=Claudio Nizzi; A=Joe Kubert]: This is 1 Tex Willer story of 2 that I know of that has been translated into English. And it is so much fun! This is a true throwback to the westerns of the 50s(only w/a little more violence & salacious material... a little more. It just feels so classic-- like a Howard Hawks film! And w/art by another AMAZING artist, Joe Kubert, founder of the Kubert School of Cartoon & Graphic Art... how can u g wrong?
5)The Guns of Shadow Valley [DH; Color; W=James Andrew Clark & Dave Wachter; A=same]: All I can say is Old West setting, but a western w/superpowers aspects, & gorgeous drawn/ painted art!

Wow, what an exciting comment lots to unpack, but I'll start with your question about High Moon I personally own the old Zuda widescreen version of the graphic novel & I actually had no idea it had been rereleased until I made this video, & I'm really unfamiliar with the label that released it, but I do know & talk to the writer on Twitter so I'll ask him about vol 2's fate & get back to you on that after the holiday season is over, now on to Loveless the book was cancelled at 24 issues so the ending isn't as buttoned up perfectly but imo it does have an ending & at said end revenge was had with all the characters except one, it ends imo in a way that you can make up the very last part of it yourself, but as to people saying the book never went anywhere are crazy it did so much with it's short 24 issues! Last I want to thank you for all the epic recs & breakdowns for them all, I'm not sure when I'll loop back around to Western comics, but I will look out for all the books you mentioned! Thank u, also, for what u said about "Loveless!" It looked like such a badass western! After what u've said... I don't think I would have a problem w/every single thread not being tied up & finished(even w/my OCD, I can fill in a bit of info for myself... if that's all it takes to reach a conclusion); and as a fan of Azzarello, Frusin, et al, I thought it was pretty out of character for those guys- particularly Azzarello- to do a story that "goes nowhere," as I'd read in some other reviews. Glad those titles I suggested sounded intriguing to ya! I know what u mean w/going thru/cycling thru phases of genres ur into, as I am often the same way! Anyways, again, great video! Hey just getting back to you, I just talked to David the writer of High Moon, he told me they got a little delayed in production for vol 2 but as of now it's submitted to the publisher & will be released sometime soon, just no official date! So keep your eyes open cuz the book is indeed coming! I hope you had a great holiday & you 2021 is going well!
wow! five comics that I've never read but suddenly look like must-haves (with the exception of the Ennis one maybe, the art looks a bit too ... harsh in my eyes) thanks!
Anytime my good man, and yeah I kind of agree on the Ennis book's art, Wolfer's art is pretty ugly, but I'm kind of use to it now from reading so many Avatar books he's worked on, it's still a cool comic, but it would be a total masterpiece if it had better art, thank you so much for watching my videos, I'm a huge fan of your videos I've been really enjoying the Panelology series you do!

@@GraphicVandalism731 Though it is not my genre of choice I am interested in seeing a video on strange romance comics. Something along the lines of boy/girl meets x and try to simultaneously date/kill each other, also they are the same person. I will always have a passion for genre bending weirdness. Though if that proves non-feesible some new and interesting takes on Lovecraftian fiction are always a hoot! Thanks!

Half way threw Pretty Dead! The art is perfect for a western. I would love someone like HBO or Netflix to do a miniseries adaptation
That would be dope, I'd personally like to see Syfy channel do it as so far their adaptations of image comics series have been spot on and don't take as many liberties with changing the hell out of everything that made the story great like HBO does, I mean honestly Happy! And Deadly Class are near perfect comic book show adaptations!

@@toppsguy oh man Deadly Class is so good, it's a really straight adaptation of the comic, and happy is insane I'm amazed how much they were able to get away with on that show as it's on Syfy but it's more brutal and adult that shit you'd see on like showtime or HBO!
