Yeah, this is the exact problem I have with her. When you teach people something you must double check the information you're presenting to people cus you're responsible for what you teach. I'm an English tutor myself, but I'm only teaching my students the things I'm 100% sure about. And even though I kinda feel like my English is good, I still watch lots of educational videos and read some useful articles to improve my skills. Sometimes I'm shocked that I didn't know some very basics while being a C1 speaker. And I'm a Russian myself, and as a child I used to watch Marina's videos a lot cus it seemed fun and practical. However... Now I know that the info she shared is false. It's sad that English learners face such problems.

Самое прикольное для меня - то, что когда я смотрела то самое видео Люси и Марины несколько месяцев назад, я сразу подумала, что это нетипично с точки зрения грамматики и нелогично абсолютно, когда говорят Why won't I be? в контексте ответа на вопрос как дела. Но я сразу подумала, что Люси бы, наверное, перезаписала тот момент и попросила Марину ответить по-другому. Оказывается, у Люси как у британки слишком много такта, и вот поэтому настоящая правда открылась мне только сейчас. Я вижу, что другие тоже высказались насчет излишней вежливости, когда она, откровенно говоря, вредит другим. Как здорово, что Кевин подробно на эту тему высказался. Thanks a lot, Kevin, my best English teacher.

Marina’s reply was extremely rude. She should have known better, considering she claims to be residing in America. It’s not just British, who are tactful and polite. Other English speaking natives would think it’s unnecessary rude to reply like that, but they wouldn’t correct a foreigner in order not to offend her. It is not Lucy’s job to teach someone who publicly claims to be highly knowledgeable..when she ( Marina) is clear Not..she is very arrogant and ignorant..

I cannot agree here. Non-natives can teach other people - especially those with a low level of acquisition because for beginners and children, it’s easier to work with the person that has the same native language as you. Especially since bilinguals are a rare occasion. But for intermediate+ students, I cannot agree more, the best option is a native speaker.

Marina wasn't referring to the rolling R, she was talking about the soft R you can hear in Spanish, for example, in words like "pero", "precio", "garaje"... That's the sound used in the word "water".

By the way, I'm a native Spanish speaker, and we have two ways of pronouncing the "r" depending on where it goes in a word. The first way is actually the one you showed on the video (16:15), the rolled "r". The other way is indeed the same sound made in American English when pronouncing the "t" in the word "water".

the only part where Marina might have a point is when she mentioned the T is pronounced like an R because although the rolled R is a sound present in many different languages, there's this softer R that happens to be pretty close to the fast d in English like in Spanish "pero" (but), or "pera" (pear). So I think that was what she meant rather than the rolled R
