I met FFC, years ago on the set of godfather 2. He was kind, warm & accommodating. He asked if I wanted a part in the movie. I said, no. I wanted to take photos of the set & the film shoot. He nodded & said “ ok “ & instructed me how to find a hiding place when cameras were rolling. Mr Coppola treated me with great consideration. I love telling this story, ❤️
Coppola came to my local community college in Oklahoma City (OCCC) and did a program with the film students. He gave a very generous grant to the school in the form of a massive theater room. Seems like a swell guy.
I like the concept of his elevator game, it gives someone a chance to look at their life and appreciate everything wonderful about it. I might just try it one day.
Growing up I felt the same way. In that solitude was horrible and being around friends and family sometimes felt like the only thing that could make me happy.
I have the reverse. It's being able to get soledad, solitude, alone time, and then I can be with people. It's restorative being alone. Not lonely at all. Indeed, it is a necessity. Go figure. Pity this video, the title, is a bit off, misleading. I really was expecting more on him speaking about solitude. It's very glib and superficial here. Sad.
When he talks about it's not how long you live but how well, and a mosquito doesn't know that it's got a short life. It reminds me of reading For Whom the Bell Tolls, which I would highly recommend to anyone. I've read a handful of Hemingway's novel and I feel that FWTBT gives the deepest look into Hemingway's thinking, his philosophy, how he sees love, death, time, courage, duty. I feel it "informs" you on the rest of his novels, what the rest of his novels show you, but leave it up to you to pick up on it. Most (or I think all) the rest of his novels simply don't have the same philosophical contemplation, the deep thinking on all these powerful facets of life. It has one of the most brutal scenes I've ever read in a book. It's one of my favourite pieces of literature. Get on it. Feel free reply with a book recommendation :)
Well, I’ve been watching a lot of these videos lately and they’re all so perfectly orchestrated with the cute yet sort of unpleasant drawings and the guests who make these videos that more special. Plus you actually learn a lot from these genius minds even though they’re just having conversations with a journalist somewhere in time. My respect for the creators of these videos
Dear Blank on Blank channel, I really love the stuff you guys do. Your clips feel like magic. I know that I am going to be a filmmaker. I just wanted you to know that you truly inspired someone with your work. Love, Jonas
There is something so special when you hear someone talking about his/hers family and how much he/she loves them.. in this kind of fashion.. it’s like gratitude for being loved and loving them there are close to one.. it’s really beautiful in so many ways…!
A daily reflection on his life in an elevator. That is a wonderful idea. I have started vLogging daily as a way to reflect on my life, but that is intensely time consuming. Maybe doing something like Coppola is a better reflection technique. Anyone else have a good way of self-reflection?

alex holt - I know but more. There's actually loads of rare recordings on Apple Music, cassette recordings while he's writing hells angels in 67, discusses the Freud cocaine papers and reviews cocaine while taking it, audio style - 1967.
It´s a very particular time for Mr Coppola right now. His wife, Eleanor, died a few days ago and he´s just about to present his latest film at Cannes Film Festival. Life gets weird sometimes.
The Godfather 2 and 3, Apocalypse Now (personal favorite), The Conversation, Rumble Fish, The Cotton Club, Dracula, The Rainmaker, One from the Heart, The Rain People, The Outsiders, Dementia 13... ...except Jack, we don't talk about Jack here.
Yeah I feel ya. The Godfather is a great film, don't get me wrong. It's a great piece of art, wonderfully made. The mafia wasn't like what that movie portrays at all, and that's fine. Maybe I have to re-watch it, but it just isn't *incredible* to me. Personally Apocalypse Now is my favourite from him and one of my favourites of all time. It really sucks you into the tension, madness, and insanity of war and especially in a jungle with a guerilla warfare enemy. The creepy soundtrack, the chaos at the Do Lung bridge. Using the basis of Heart of Darkness as a skeleton for the story was genius. I love that movie.
They think they're doing him good but they're fucking disrespecting him by ignoring his other accomplishments and skill as a filmmaker, and not paying attention to everything else coming. GF done. Okay career finished
the elevator game is an interesting one, parallels Bhuddist Maraṇasati (death) meditation. Reflecting on your ephemerality and death is a great way to live a good life and ground yourself and your priorities.
Amazing elevator game! The first 2 floors is the similar to me, but the rest of the 6 floor is just: finally - i don't have to work so hard to gain nothing more from day-to-day and finally i don't have to worry about having a wife or a children or a house, because it's finally over. When the elevator stops and opens: oh! no! it was just a mind game. Life goes on and no matter how hard i'm working i will not achieve anything. So i have 2/8th common with mr. Coppola.
I remember having a drink in The Coach, Soho. Coppola was on his own at the bar. I went to buy a round and he asked if he could join us for a few drinks, I replied 'Fuck off Francis I'm with friends.'
Actually, you cannot know what an animal is conscious of. Actually, we aren't even fully aware how our own consciousness works. A dog, for instance, knows when he is going to die, and goes off to die alone. These series are amazing btw.
Symbolically... taking the elevator, in the darkness... in a downward direction... to me would represent a pessimistic view of my future place in eternity. When the doors open and the brightness appears... are they flames or love?
His face and voice do match weirdly enough I always expected a voice similar to Hitchcock but more Italian sounding or maybe a more gruff sounding voice I still like his world it's just such a weird contrast a gruff face with a oddly kind voicec

I would’ve said no too, tbh. It would’ve felt wrong to just do it.

Isn't it just wonderful?
Best critique of art possible imho. Varying interpretations that are all correct.
So glad Francis, a guy extremely scared of death, is still alive and with us and making awesome films.
What a sweet man. Very imaginative and empathic.
Everyone keeps talking about The Godfather, but The Conversation was absolutely amazing!
can't wait to see one of those on kubrick

It seems Coppola exercised his philosophy toward life, happiness, and death his entire life, and that is what produced his masterpieces.
He’s still alive
@@abdomen9038 I mean about death, i didn`t imply that he is dead
@@abdomen9038 how could he make any work dead anyway? your logic is broken, bro

Last summer I received Francis’ signature at a movie festival in Italy!!
You made us a video that we couldn’t refuse...
Oh whoa. He's way more committed to a thought.. Of death. Then I'll ever be committed to anything
Of Course the man who made Godfather wouldn't feel so bad about life, I'd be happy to accomplish 5% of what he's done.
wonderful message of gratitude
this series needs more exposure. it's certainly very very accessible.
I keep coming back to this
that elevator part made me cry unexpectedly, beautiful.

great interview. I would love to see a Norm Macdonald one
That game he played is so beautiful! I imagine it gives you a hell of an appreciation for your life...
It’s a good game.. it’s makes you happy for what you have and not for what you don’t…!
I love these keep coming back for more.
What an interesting guy... and also, a brilliant director.

These videos make me think a lot deeper...
Nice words from Coppola . The animator/creator is a genius.
I saw it like 1000 times. I love this videos. Martin Scorsese interview too AND a Lot of More

Personally I like Apocalypse Now the best. That whole film is a journey that I never get sick of. The Godfather can get pretty boring.
Apocalypse Now Redux or no Apocalypse Now at all.
This is quite interesting. Geniuses often enjoy solitude and value it. He appears to be an exception.

Well Francis live a good life. Godfather 2 is his best but Apocalypse Now was one of greatest movies ever made.
It's so weird for Coppola talking about death and solitude despite him directing MJ's Captain EO. xp
From the only interview he had
0:03 "In third, a wheel and axle which turns some gears and rotates the can against the blade."
When the drawing is more impressive than the words.
I love his first movie.
