My grandfather (born in 1899) was in the British Indian Army and fought against the Ottomans. He told that "it was raining bullets". The British Officer commented on his tall physique and broad shoulders as exemplary. He served for five years and after that he became a teacher in his village. He was fifty when my father was born.
I don't know you are a India or Pakistani ....frist of all Salam, satshriakal, namaste. Much respect to your grandfather and his fellow soilders who fought against the Ottomans. Very soon i'm going to Haifa to pay my respect to the fallen Indian soliders. I should've done that much earlier but I just foundout about battle of Haifa few weeks ago. Holy Israel even issued a postal stamp ticket for our brave Indian soldiers who fought in Haifa.
@NoName-jf2ry You can disagree with his “choice”. No problem. As a farmer boy he went to the army by his own choice or not. But to say he was a “pet dog” is disrespectful. You don’t know in what kind of circumstances he joined the army. I would recommend you to say it in my face.
The real reason why India gained independence over the British by 1947 The battle of Haifa is celebrated as the victory of Indian forces in the British Army over the Turks. The three forces from three Kingdoms of India - that is Rajputs from Jodhpur Lancers of the Jodhpur Kingdom, Hyderabad Lancers of the Hyderabad Kingdom and the Mysore Lancers from the Mysore Kingdom had been sent to free Haifa from Turkish army with automatic machine guns and vast amount of gunfire. Before this battle the Indians had not been allowed to hold officer level ranks in the British Army. The almost impossible victory of the Indians over the turks made the British change this decision of theirs and they started making Indian officers. In the long run this decision of the British would mean that by 1945 end there would be a million strong Indian army composed of Indians who were victorious in various battles in the second world war from all states of India and were commanded by Indian Army officers. Subhash Chandra Bose had by then already shown that the Indian army men trained and lead by Indian generals were capable of defeating the British in the north east of India. This they had done with minimal support from the Japanese nd after the surrender of the Japanese Army they had virtually no support. The British knew they were facing annihilation at the hands of the Indian Army and Navy both which had shown signs of mutiny. Already the nation despite the negative brain washing done by Gandhi and Nehru were not in the situation to control the entire nation. Unfortunately by 1946 through the British influence Stalin had arrested Subhash Chandra Bose and he was kept in a prison in Siberia. But there were hundreds of other revolutionaries who could lead the war. The British decided that the best thing to do would be leave India, save their face while they still had time and leave their agents in India who could keep the nation submissive.
Wrong ...pls get Ur history right... It was the Jodhpur lancers who charged up Mt Carmel...against morden day machine guns. This was the last charge won against new age guns. Also the Brits...ausi and the rest of the Indian Squds refused to do the suicide charge...hence the jodhpur lancers were called "JO HUKUMS" as they won't refuse any orders. I don't care about israel or any other country, but it's worth noting that colonization of India was carried out by Indian soldiers, financed by Indian entrepreneurs led by some British. The goal of Indian civil society movements was not independence until the mid 1930s. Indian army stopped supporting the British after WW2 and within a year they left. It's an interesting question why it happened this way, but the more history you read the more you realise it was almost a voluntary colonization. We don't really talk about it in India. We should. I think in Bangladesh and Pakistan they aren't even aware of their history
