My favourite band of the period after the Howard Devoto fronted Buzzcocks and The Vibrators. I'd love to know and see more of their glam period! Thanks for posting.
Ah mates, good old punk rock from 1977. Warms the cockles of me heart, yes it does. Suburban Studs formed in Birmingham in 1976, starting out as a glam rock band but after supporting Sex Pistols at the 100 Club and High Windcombe's Nag's Head they got religion and punked out. Their first single, Questions bw No Faith, was released in June 1977 on the small Pogo label. Only 1000 pressed and both songs have a saxophone. Wish I owned it because it is a GREAT two sided punk slab. Poorly distributed and neglected by the press must have discouraged the band because they withdrew the 7" and remixed the two songs without the sax. Released in October 1977, it's very good too, but doesn't have the wild urgency of the original. It did, however, get good reviews and sell over 6000 copies. Their third single, I Hate School bw Young Power, hit the stores in March 1978 and the blazing A side must have been an anthem for some Brit youth. Suburban Studs and Necro turned up on the band's final release, an album in March coinsiding with 7" This Peel session is a REAL treat. Some great careening punk here! Thanks as always to Vibracobra
