Hello Meg and Jon. Great to see you both on the job site once again. Meg, I had to look away a few times when I felt sure you were going to get waterproofing in your hair or clothes. That stuff can just ruin clothes. So cleaver to build that "funnel" out of old bits and pieces, Jon🤔. I understand your reasoning for not wanting to install French Drains (cost, time, non-percolating soil, waterproofed wall). You might be absolutely correct in this decision and not have a problem at all. On the other hand, you already have the location open, and have a drainage trench there. It will be so much easier to install now rather than dig it up later to fix a problem. You already have huge deposits of gravel on your property and the cost corrugated agricultural pipe to go around the structure would make for good insurance against any potential hydrostatic build-up down at your footings in the future. Camera doesn't do justice, Bryce. It's such a wonderful difference. I plan on clearing the areas Gary couldn't get to by hand sooner than later so I'm only disturbing the area once.
suggestion to add a dimpled outer cover that blocks moisture but also gives it a path to drain down how cold do you get may want to consider form insulation board on out side before adding veneer covering
That sure was nice of your neighbor! We're blessed with good neighbors as well -- they live fulltime below our property, but we're still part timers. No heavy equipment to take advantage of, but they do an awesome job of looking after things for us while we're away.
Good idea on the gravity drain, gravity works even when the power is out. Also, when its time for the house, you might wanna look into fiberglass rebar, if you want to avoid any possible rusting.
You are doing your forest a huge favor by clearing saplings. The ground will be much healthier being cleared. Keep as many USABLE trees as you can. Make firewood or lumber with the rest and groom your forest to constantly produce the trees you want. Great Progress!

had a house same situation did black tar like stuff then did 6 mil plastic then 2 inch foam boar then trench off to side to down slop and put in drainage tile with t fittings for down spouts this worked well befor celler used to flood badly because of the clay

Put the wheelbarrow on a pallet, pick up both with pallet forks, and dump cement directly into your funnel. Saves on shoveling and bucket cleanup. Just another option.
there is a battery powered wheel barrow design for landscaper i believe it takes regular tool batteries its geared for hills etc giving that extra power while you steering be worth looking into

Your blocklayer didnt strike the joints.This helps to seal them.

Very tough in the winter. I don't mind the cold. The mud is the biggest obstacle around the work site and getting up the driveway.
