Which means someone has likely stolen from them in the past while carrying a backpack and they didn’t want to get robbed again. And if I picked a 3rd mistake it would be he didn’t call the shop ahead of time to ask if they were interested in buying and selling of graded books. Goose just went about all this with no respect at all and then complains about the shop on RUclips to make them look bad. When his own video makes himself look bad.
I enjoy Sticky Goose's channel and have found it very informative. I certainly didn't do this video to make him look bad, but rather to just test if my experience was going to be similar. Plus the timing really just worked out. I have thought about using a body cam for comic shows/cons for b-footage but I wouldn't go into a shop and film without asking. The store owner actually didn't have an issue with S.G. and his backpack. He said that sign is mostly to keep vagrant's out.
So if you were travelling and had a backpack what do you do with it ? Leave it outside to be stolen? More loss for them. Yes if he hasn’t permission to film then that’s not on however I reckon the owner was sucking up here as he probably had been stung with the negative feeling after sticky goode’s upload. By the way I totally disagree with the comments about the latest artists not being as good as the older ones that’s just stupid. It’s progress and the artists nowadays are superb I should know I did a ruddy degree in it! I still love the old stuff as well but the quality of the paper was so poor compared to todays it was unreal. Manufacturing is better now less staple issues and spine ticks but again I’d admit there’s nothing like finding that allusive Star Wars no1 which is almost perfect.

I watched that sticky video and he was wrong in so many ways in his actions. That is why he got kicked out. You conducted yourself professionally and you got treated with respect. Great video! It's like so many things, each person will have different interactions and different outcomes. As far as the X-Men 213, I know the feeling, there are just certain covers that no matter how many I have of them, Raw or Graded, I will pick them up every time I see a good deal on them.

I think the shop owner Sticky Goose as a dealer snooping around and not a legitimate customer looking for books to purchase. Stores owners will pick up cues right away. I didn’t see the video but that is my guess. You on the other hand engaged in a friendly and open discussion with the owner and it paid off. Be friendly at all times. 👍

Just found your channe I love the spec books and learning about keys and different shops I just got into Commics a couple years ago and really love silver and Bronze Age the old-school art. But since I got into it so late, it’s hard to know what is a key issue that justifies some of these prices

I hadn’t watch the video but I figured I was right in assuming that he walked in guns blazing into a new shop with a camera strapped to his chest…I’m sure no I’ll intent..but you gotta have some sense. If you are going into an establishment you have never frequented before and don’t have any relationship already with the owner or staff, don’t just walking in recording their store….use some common courtesy and introduce yourself and let them know what you want to do and ask permission. I enjoyed watching you and will point out that not being kicked out of the shop in VA isn’t the only difference between you two. You are conscientious, thoughtful, understanding, and professional. He is not. There, I said it for you. Keep up the helpful videos and I have many dealer friends I’d gladly recommend you visit.

I will always ask if i can film, but will usually walk around the store Abita and try to strike up a conversation, not just lead with asking to film. I've had good success with all I've filmed so far.
I do very much enjoy sticky goose and his videos, he's taught me a lot, but he's super next level comic collector (which is fine) and may have come off a little overbearing. He has no general concept of a business' risk, overhead, shelf space, etc. If SG belives a comic is worth $1000, then that's what he should get give or take a few dollars. The business can't pay that, they need to pay a fraction of that based on the variables mentioned and he doesn't understand that; thus why he seldomly can't sell his slabs at shops and conventions because he has an unrealistic expectation of what comic stores can actually pay.
I've enjoyed his videos and insight while at same time get that he can be in the wrong side of dealing with people. I think we can all learn by watching his type of show as well as the type of show others like myself put out. Thanks for watching. I hope you catch my recap shows from Heroes Con.
Glad you were able to check out the store finally! I really enjoy shopping at Basement Toys and Comics, Justin has always been very approachable, friendly, and delightful to do business with. Like you said, he has a TREMENDOUS selection of older books, and he is extremely reasonable in his pricing. (I have also spent way too much money there, but I’m always itching to go back; just wish he would be open on the weekends 😊). I was planning on visiting his store next week when I had some time off, and as I watched your pickups I was bummed that you snagged that Uncanny X men 213 … guess I’ll have to hunt elsewhere 😢. I haven’t seen the sticky goose video yet, I unsubscribed from his channel a while back as I find him to be a bit of an ass who doesn’t have some common decency at times. Good video lots of great books I have an average grade copy of Avengers 144 that I grabbed for $7 love that cover I did watch the video Sticky goose made he was going to a convention don’t know if he got a hotel and stopped at the stores along the way cause I believe he did video of that convention and when a Vendor at the show asked him to stop filming he did exactly that cause he mentions the video was cut short per the man’s request But I imagine his intentions were to Sell/Trade possibly to use cash or a bigger key to bargain with at the show Maybe he caught the owner on a bad day I saw he had New 52 DC on his wall in your video some of Sticky’s comics were modern but he had Lethal protector some 80’s stuff and he had a silver Age green lantern that I believe he traded at the 1st shop But I think the owner was Rude I can’t say either way about their conversation but calling him Strap on and goofy and entitled is childish nonsense because he can’t handle a bad review if someone feels they had a negative experience they’re allowed to express it without unprofessional name calling from a business owner As far as chatting with the customer about selling I’ve never done it but I think the shop owner could’ve said hey please don’t do side sales in my store and maybe give a warning that if he tried again he had to leave I think that could’ve been more fair because the store after the woman was bringing the stuff back to her car and he said hey I might be interested and the owner screamed at him Which if you watched her refuse the books and she’s leaving I don’t see the harm in asking because they could’ve met 10min down the road at a McDonald’s and that lady would’ve never known 🤷🏻♂️ that might sound harsh but if she turned the woman away and she putting them back in the car that shop owner concluded their business by ending the transaction That lady made it seem like Sticky jumped into the negotiations and offered her more than what the store was offering that’s simply not cutting into her business she walked out So I can see issues with the situation on that day again Sticky I believe has a go pro on his chest it’s very visible if the owner would’ve asked him is that on if so please stop filming I’m sure he would’ve he did it at the convention I don’t think he was being rude or entitled he probably wasn’t told to stop filming and I think that falls on the owner because he’s absolutely allowed to make that rule but don’t let him film and get angry that he did it I’ve seen channels that film stores looking for action figures or funko pops they don’t always disclose if they got permission ahead of time to film
the owner decided to fight back. His review was all lies and his video was lies too. Calling Sticky goof and telling the truth was nothing compared to what sticky did to the area shops. He was so very disrespectful. Think about stickys actions. Weren't they entitled? His reaction to someone putting him in his place probably looked childish to a grown man that runs a shop and expects people to have some respect.

Then after his video on being kicked out of comic shops, I responded on instagram, he didn’t like what I had to say and he… Deleted my comment and blocked me which is ironic after he didn’t like his blockage from respectable store owners. Seems to me there’s a decent amount of entitlement going on.

Ive overpaid for comics I love, Ive been given comics I love for free or very little, ultimately winning some and losing some but there’s one constant, that love and passion for it. It’s something I think we need more of, it won’t get the 50k views and 10k followers like the negative tubers will, but maybe one day! It’s a community after all, extremely unique and there’s enough to go around, but what brings us together first is the love, and passion Continue in my friend! Great video. I totally agree about the current state of most artwork in comics today. It’s gosh awful. I sometimes wonder what the big two are thinking when they hire these artists.
When I get my monthly order from my wholesaler I'll read Usagi Yojimbo immediately and then kind of skim everything else. The art from the big two has become very generic looking with some exceptions. I think that the coloring too has made the comics look worse. There was something about the flatness of color with hints at shading that let the ink and line work stand out that made the old art better too.

He has no general concept of a business' risk, overhead, shelf space, etc. If SG belives a comic is worth $1000, then that's what he should get give or take a few dollars. The business can't pay that, they need to pay a fraction of that based on the variables mentioned and he doesn't understand that; thus why he seldomly can't sell his slabs at shops and conventions because he has an unrealistic expectation of what comic stores can actually pay.
I've enjoyed his videos and insight while at same time get that he can be in the wrong side of dealing with people. I think we can all learn by watching his type of show as well as the type of show others like myself put out. Thanks for watching. I hope you catch my recap shows from Heroes Con.
Glad you were able to check out the store finally! I really enjoy shopping at Basement Toys and Comics, Justin has always been very approachable, friendly, and delightful to do business with. Like you said, he has a TREMENDOUS selection of older books, and he is extremely reasonable in his pricing. (I have also spent way too much money there, but I’m always itching to go back; just wish he would be open on the weekends 😊). I was planning on visiting his store next week when I had some time off, and as I watched your pickups I was bummed that you snagged that Uncanny X men 213 … guess I’ll have to hunt elsewhere 😢. I haven’t seen the sticky goose video yet, I unsubscribed from his channel a while back as I find him to be a bit of an ass who doesn’t have some common decency at times. Doesn’t surprise me that he was kicked out … seems he likes to invite controversy into his videos. Thanks for the great video, always look forward to your content. I did watch the video Sticky goose made he was going to a convention don’t know if he got a hotel and stopped at the stores along the way cause I believe he did video of that convention and when a Vendor at the show asked him to stop filming he did exactly that cause he mentions the video was cut short per the man’s request
But I imagine his intentions were to Sell/Trade possibly to use cash or a bigger key to bargain with at the show
Maybe he caught the owner on a bad day I saw he had New 52 DC on his wall in your video some of Sticky’s comics were modern but he had Lethal protector some 80’s stuff and he had a silver Age green lantern that I believe he traded at the 1st shop
But I think the owner was Rude I can’t say either way about their conversation but calling him Strap on and goofy and entitled is childish nonsense because he can’t handle a bad review if someone feels they had a negative experience they’re allowed to express it without unprofessional name calling from a business owner
As far as chatting with the customer about selling I’ve never done it but I think the shop owner could’ve said hey please don’t do side sales in my store and maybe give a warning that if he tried again he had to leave
I think that could’ve been more fair because the store after the woman was bringing the stuff back to her car and he said hey I might be interested and the owner screamed at him
Which if you watched her refuse the books and she’s leaving I don’t see the harm in asking because they could’ve met 10min down the road at a McDonald’s and that lady would’ve never known 🤷🏻♂️ that might sound harsh but if she turned the woman away and she putting them back in the car that shop owner concluded their business by ending the transaction
That lady made it seem like Sticky jumped into the negotiations and offered her more than what the store was offering that’s simply not cutting into her business she walked out
So I can see issues with the situation on that day again Sticky I believe has a go pro on his chest it’s very visible if the owner would’ve asked him is that on if so please stop filming I’m sure he would’ve he did it at the convention I don’t think he was being rude or entitled he probably wasn’t told to stop filming and I think that falls on the owner because he’s absolutely allowed to make that rule but don’t let him film and get angry that he did it
I’ve seen channels that film stores looking for action figures or funko pops they don’t always disclose if they got permission ahead of time to film
the owner decided to fight back. His review was all lies and his video was lies too. Calling Sticky goof and telling the truth was nothing compared to what sticky did to the area shops. He was so very disrespectful. Think about stickys actions. Weren't they entitled? His reaction to someone putting him in his place probably looked childish to a grown man that runs a shop and expects people to have some respect.
@@jacobsisson416 totally agree. What he said about the staff of B&D Comics was despicable, those people are THE nicest people and an absolute pleasure to tak to ... I was angry and disgusted enough with his (Sticky Goof) behavior at The Basement Toys and Comics, but then he became a complete POS during his visit to B&D. Unfortunately I feel you are right that there is an audience for his kinds of videos ... he has no class and has an ugly soul.

Deleted my comment and blocked me which is ironic after he didn’t like his blockage from respectable store owners. Seems to me there’s a decent amount of entitlement going on.

Ive overpaid for comics I love, Ive been given comics I love for free or very little, ultimately winning some and losing some but there’s one constant, that love and passion for it. It’s something I think we need more of, it won’t get the 50k views and 10k followers like the negative tubers will, but maybe one day! It’s a community after all, extremely unique and there’s enough to go around, but what brings us together first is the love, and passion

Great video. I totally agree about the current state of most artwork in comics today. It’s gosh awful. I sometimes wonder what the big two are thinking when they hire these artists.
When I get my monthly order from my wholesaler I'll read Usagi Yojimbo immediately and then kind of skim everything else. The art from the big two has become very generic looking with some exceptions. I think that the coloring too has made the comics look worse. There was something about the flatness of color with hints at shading that let the ink and line work stand out that made the old art better too.
I've been saying that since they started using computers instead of making real art!!!
Goose makes great content, the man is truly comedic.
