When my great grandparents were alive, this was their song. When my Nana was in the hospital, before she passed away, my great grandpa sang tea for two for her. It was really emotional and it made a lot of people cry, though I wasn’t there while she died, the thought is still sad. My great grandpa lived a few years longer, and he was always depressed. He missed her and he never wanted to do anything other than see her again. He peacefully passed away December 2nd, 2023; a week before my birthday. All he wanted was to see her again. Although I am atheist, I do hope that whatever is out there, whatever happens, that they can reunite again and be happy. They were married for over 75 years. It’s a sad but also beautiful story. And so, on his funeral, instead of everyone being super sad, they celebrated his life, and how long he lived. They were buried next to each other. What they had was so special and I hope I can find a man or woman like that.
A fine story, you share with us! I either don.t know, if there.s heaven or hell, but for people like your grandparents I believe, that there is a place together somewhere!! 👍
My mum misses my dad terribly 12 years on. I’m not religious either but I’m convinced we go somewhere where we are the age we were at our happiest. Funny because Mum always dreams as I do of dad in his 40’s. I picture dad in his garden doing his veg, busy preparing for mum and us To arrive. He’s not sad, no concept of time,he’s with friends, family and ancestors gone. He’s at perfect peace enjoying the answers to all the questions we have.
Totally agree. I’m 20 years older than you but find my own age often did not have this background as my parents put on me. I thank them because I’m eclectic and love movies and music from all eras. Yes, that includes 1700s tunes!
Hey, guys. Indonesian here. But my late Pa did love all those classic legendary movies. So I learned about the song when I was four in the late 70s. The spirit carries on - with those wonderful memories. Which brings me to this... 1) I feel grateful I still had a chance to know American culture very early. The movies & music make everyone feel (& just like me, still) young. Those quality music are forever. Not even to be musical, but man... They are immortal. Raindrops Keep falling on My Head, Beyond the Sea, Somewhere, theme of Moulin Rouge, Born Free, Magnificent Seven, etc... 2) I feel for Gen z today, they have no idea what they are missing. Almost all today's music are garbage. That's why we see so many desperation, faking on social media, bullying, suicides .... They lost in the storm. So, let's enjoy all these great classic all the way. Glad I can learn from you all. 🌟
Listen to her pronounce the consonant "k". She has a series of six of them (including the initial consonant "c" on the word "cake") in just two lines. (There is also the paired voiced consonant "g" in the word "sugar"). Clearly but gently, as though she is speaking just above a whisper, in a playful and cute manner. The vowel fades before she applies the final consonant, which calls more attention to it. The "g" and "k" are spoken with the tongue in the mouth, and she pronounces them in a sticky way, perhaps suggesting more than how tasty that cake will be. She takes a clever lyric and turns it into a lover's coo. In the final phrase, she pronounces the "b" and "p" and "w" with the lips as though going in for a kiss. She sings with a sweet and soft tone with a smile in her voice which matches the words of the song. She really sang these intimate love songs well.
Doris Day was so beautiful. She looked like the girl next door everyone's sweetheart and talented too bad there aren't any around today that can compare with her
In just this one clip of a simple song, you can see and hear all of Doris Day's astonishing star power - she looks ravishing, her screen presence is radiant, her persona shining, her voice is heavenly - when she sings 'sugar cake', if you are not totally smitten there is something wrong with you. She acts totally naturally, effortlessly and timelessly unlike many of her contemporaries. Doris is one of the GREATEST but most under-rated stars probably because she is so wholesome, feelgood and optimistic and because she appears just to be who she is without effort or tactic. Amazing. RIP.
I was soo sad to hear of her passing. But glad she lived a long life. Thank you Doris for your talent in music and movie. You brought so much joy to my life.
Ever since I was little, whenever I would go on vacations I would bring back a tea pot as a souvenir. On one particular vacation, I found a particularly beautiful tea pot in a little store. I picked it up by the handle, and it started playing music! Being caught off guard, I quickly set it down again, but never let go of it. Needless to say, it came home with me and I fell in love with the little tune it played. Recently, I have been trying and trying and trying to find the name of the song, but to no avail. But after more extensive research, I believe this is the song it plays. I now have this sense of peace, like a piece of my soul that has been awake for too long, like a grumpy child, has been put to bed, tucked in, and is now dreaming peacefully
That was beautifully written, and I hope you have since explored many of the instrumental versions of the song. Also,Bob Hope was famous for his version which was always one of my favorites.
Big fan of Doris Day. I have all of her movies her movies are so wonderful and entertaining to watch. The movies bring you back to another era where there was Legendary Movie Stars with beautiful clothes filmed in outstanding Technicolor... Doris Day was a wonderful Actress and an outstanding Singer there will never be another Doris Day - she is Timeless!!
Her movies were a safe and a wholesome fun for all the family to watch and spend quality time together .. I call her The Elegant Mother as she was a mother in most of her movies .. kind, loving and yes Elegant. She retired in Carmel, CA where she bought a cute hotel only to allow pets in as other hotels in town were not allowing pets in. She represented the best in our American culture. God bless her soul and accept her in His Mercy and in His Paradise.
I saw a free Doris Day movie on RUclips the other week and now I'm getting endless recs from the algo, lol. 1950? I forget she started her movie career in 1948; I forget how long she'd been around. Fun fack: Day was 4 years older than Marilyn Monroe, which is weird because I mostly know Monroe's movies as 50s things and Day's movies as 60s things. But, Day was big in the 50s, too. I'll agree with her own assessment that her real talent was singing, not acting. This here is a fine example.
beautiful those people from that era use to sing from the heart and soul by the im only 20 but to me that is great if we only could chose in what era to be born.
I will never tire of watching this routine. The dance steps are simple but not boring. It just looks like fun! I would love to jump through my Ipad and do this dance with them. Just a feel good dance and I love it!
I grew up with her singing and she lived a long life and brought a lot of joy in peoples' hearts with her singing and sweet character, Mariana Grinblat, M.SC., M. Eng.
Picture you upon my knee Just tea for two And two for tea Just me for you And you for me...alone [JIMMY:] I'm discontented with homes that I've rented So I have invented my own. Darling, this place is lovely oasis Where life's weary taste is unknown Far from the crowded city Where flowers pretty caress the stream Cozy to hide in, to live side by side in, Don't let it apart in my dream Picture you upon my knee Just tea for two And two for tea Just me for you And you for me alone [NANETTE:] Nobody near us to see us or hear us Mm, mm, mm, No friends or relations Mm, mm, mm, On weekend vacations Mm, mm, mm. We won't have it known, dear, That we own a telephone, dear... Such a beautiful, gentle soul and every man she allowed into her life treated her terribly and some even robbed her blind. No wonder she spent all her later years with animals. 😥
Seeing her reminds me of my mom when I had age of 7 and when dad and I played them LP's & singles at that time. Remembering my time in the Air Force days in Europe I heard Doris had at her birth time a name by Gisela. Even I'm mixed from Germany & Turkey and today I'm Swedish. Gosh Man, how the times mix these days all as a classical and jazz music. Today my kids know my LP archive and play sometime Doris just as my dead ones did once upon a time. All in all I love that voice that still keeps me younger.
🥰🌻 Childhood memories!! Inspirational!!! Always loved watching her movies. Big thank you to my mum for sitting me in front of all the musical midday movies.
I'm touring a one woman show round care homes in December and have to learn lots of old songs. I am stunned how beautiful so many of them are: simply timeless and effortless ❤ Gx
How wonderful - how melodic - how charming - how cute! :-) Thanks Doris! Thanks Vincente Youmans (Music) und Irving Caesar (Text) and thank you Old Hollywood!
I heard a brief clip of the music on TV and looked it up. I was familiar with the tune, but didn't know anything about it. It's such a relaxing beautiful-song.
Watching this film clip reminds me that I had a huge crush on Doris Day as a kid, and I think this movie was the reason, I do believe she is probably one of the greatest combinations of looks and talent that ever showed up in Hollywood. I also remember the fun it was to sing this song in my school choir.
She is my idea of perfection Soft voiced but beautiful and strong when singing Her smile Her hair Her eyes Her warmth She is like the mother i always wanted but never really had

My grandparents on both sides were like that..through thick and thin they stayed together. That's how it should be but nowadays it's not so common
Seguro que si
Y que tenga también un gran corazón como tu

One of the best female voices of our time.
Hello Michelle
How are you doing today?
Maye the best big-band girl singer. Only Ella can match her.
She's so beautiful .... and still is! At 90 years old now I often wonder if she still sings. She looks just as lovely now as she always did!

She was.. lovely m, just lovely
Her dress is stunning!!
I'm beyond blessed to have been raised on Doris Day's music. I was born in 1991 and my mother, who was born in 1964 raised me right.
Totally agree. I’m 20 years older than you but find my own age often did not have this background as my parents put on me. I thank them because I’m eclectic and love movies and music from all eras. Yes, that includes 1700s tunes!
I am so glad you can appreciate great talent and music. I was born 1942 and my mother in 1923.

I also liked that part
Bless you ! All students should listen.
The way you describe her singing is like a song in itself ☺️
A real artist, I miss real art. 🤩😍Pop culture destroys art.

Agreed. Why I thought of bringing this music back
Jenifer Lawrence
@@godisbigenough Never gone...
Look up Rita Payés. In my opinion, she's very comparable.
There are lots who can compare if you know where to look

Hello Suzie
How are you doing today?
Times change, but I loved these musicals I grew up with. My Mom also played the radio a LOT. LOL

What A Beautiful Woman Doris Day Was, And A Lovely Voice. Magnificento
Simply Superb.
A great performer and singer. She even transforms this relatively simple song into a masterpiece.
Song isn’t actually simple it just sounds so - harmonically complex
The colour and video quality is sublime considering how old this vid is. Better than B movies of 2023. Love it

[JIMMY:]
A boy for you
And a girl for me
[BOTH:]
Can't you see how happy we would be...
This song makes me think of my Grandmother. RIP
That is so beautiful both her and the song I could listen to that all day. Why isn’t this type a music still popular
Such a beautiful, gentle soul and every man she allowed into her life treated her terribly and some even robbed her blind. No wonder she spent all her later years with animals. 😥
AN INCOMPARABLE AND HUMMING SERENADE EVER! BRAVO FROM Emmanuel from PARIS
