For several reasons, for one, they don't have the time. And in a way, it's a test. In the beginning they talked about only 6 episodes. But better 9 well written and executed episodes, than stretched out thin story.
And now there will be no season 6 because Wentworth doesn't want to play straight characters anymore. How many of you are fans now? I love him whatever roles he chooses to play.

They bring Wentworth Miller interview him and they talk about the whole seasons and the new season that is coming out on March 2017 but in the two TV behind them the were showing Batman and not a Prison Break. Lol I know it was an interview at the San Diego Comic Con but at least they should put a Prison Break of any seasons if the new season poster isn't out there yet.
