A title that Kate Middleton received but the Queen's granddaughter Zara Tindall did not. On his wedding day, Prince William received a special honour and gift from his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. She bestowed a new title on him, making him the Duke of Cambridge and Catherine became a duchess. That being said, despite the affectionate bond with her grandmother, Zara did not receive any title when she married. This was due to a special royal custom. Only sons and grandsons of reigning monarchs can be given titles when they marry, which meant that William and his brother Prince Harry were both eligible. Harry became the Duke of Sussex and Meghan became the Duchess of Sussex when they married.

So for Charles, the first in line it's obvious his children will be prince and princesses.
For his siblings, now much further down the line of succession, have the option of their children being prince or princess or not.
Prince Andrew (Charles brother) elected to have his daughters as princesses.
Prince Edward, given how far down the line of succession he is (currently behind William and his children, Harry and his children, Andrew then Beatrice and Eugine) did not give the title of Prince or Princess to his children.
Even though Princess Anne is older than both Andrew and Edward, because of the preference of the male line, is behind them and their children in succession and so elected not to use the prince / Princess title for her children.

Titles traditionally go to the male line. A womans title is based off the husband when it comes to the peerage.
So the reigning monarch would need to grant one to Mike for it to go to Zara and any children.

Zara would have taken on the feminine form of whatever titles her husband held. As Mike Tindall has no titles, neither does Zara.
HM could have granted a title to Zara if she wished.

This rule has long been established before her. Titles go through the male line and as a woman your title is based on your husband.
A man could never take your title as his own.
