Well done on the repair. I repaired a Lionel made unit last year and it was a heck of a job getting it working reliably. Someone had dropped it and the PCB was badly cracked in multiple places so it took me a while to track down every cracked trace and bridge them. I also really like the custom 3D printed battery holder.
Thank you so much! I just ordered components to refresh the caps, resistors, and do the diode conversion. The battery holder is so nicely designed, I’m super excited to try it out! Thanks again for your help
I always thought that "Victoreen" was some sort of American portmanteau of "Victory" - but it isn't - he's a real person. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Austin_Victoreen
I have one that came calibrated but I messed with it to learn how to recalibrate it so for it to be calibrated it’s got to settle within that 0.2 Mr/Hr range? Correct
My dad bought me a english geiger counter on eBay today, good condition, but untested. Should i also check the capacitors in my one,and replace them,if needed?
Of all the components the paper capacitors probably need replacement the most. The ceramic capacitors will probably be OK. Some sources [www.instructables.com/CDV-700-maintenance/] say you need to also replace the voltage regulator tube with zener diodes. There is at least one Ebay seller which sells replacement components in a kit, though that's not the direction I took.
@@alnwlsn as my geiger counter arrives end of next week,i take a look at the circuitboard,to See,wat is inside, capacitors are no problem, i have some rated 1600 volt. I have electrolytics as well.i' so exited,my First ever geiger counter.

Every Soviet Geiger tube I've read about: works at 400V.
First American Geiger tube I see: 900V
Cold War competition I guess :-D
Nice. my father is a Electricain and this is kinda fun tbh. a geiger counter
Awesome video! Would you share an STL for that 3D printed battery holder? 😮
I distribute in STEP these days. Most slicers can handle it - github.com/alnwlsn/videos/tree/main/victoreen-cdv-700-6b
