- Hollow-core photonic crystal fibers (HC-PCFs) are a type of optical fiber that has a hollow core surrounded by a lattice of air holes running along the length of the fiber. The structure of the fiber is such that light is confined to the hollow core by the photonic bandgap effect, which prevents light from propagating in the lattice structure of the fiber.
