Four mods that make the WR250F run like it should: 1) remove the throttle stop(which should be done before it leaves any competent dealer) 2) remove the air box resonator 3) after market exhaust, anything is better than the choked up stocker 4) replace locked ECU with tunable competition ECU.

Ryan Bernard I don't shift that often with my FE 250 4 stroke. And where I live there are a lot of tight technical stuff, and 450 are way too powerful for this.
I just recently traded my CRF450X for a CRF250X because the trails around where I live now are very tight and technical. 450's are only popular at the motocross track here. 300 2T is the hot ticket around here and will probably try out one of those later but the trade was the cheapest way to go.
John Chafin Yeah 300 2 stroke are the kings here too... But honestly, 250 and 350 4 stroke are really good too !

I bought a 2018 Yamaha 250FX and the power of these new four strokes is quite surprising. My only complaints are the tall and HARD seat, too high gearing, and a bit stiff stock springs (valving?). But many would find these are non-issues.

Hey VEGAS..... Once before I told you my green spring, lectron, rk tek head 300 got 30mpg's or 80 miles to a stock 2.6 gallon tank and you said I estimated but didn't measure. Today I measured..... earlier this week I did the grantsville utah single track trail.... 41 miles exactly... mostly 2nd and 3rd gear.... some 1st gear.... did half a dozen WOT hill climbs off the side of the trail along the way as well.... I just totally emptied my tank....into a empty gas can with measurements on the side, I had to go into reserve and swish the gas to the left side to get almost all of it. 1.3 gallons was left. Do the math. I'm running slightly rich in the low to mid as well. 31 mpgs, fact. I'm not trying to be disagreeable but a fact is a fact. Next time you come to utah let's go ride.
that's a good test, i just one myself in Duck creek utah, i actually got 32 mpg, but it was on the yellow spring, low rpm. The day before the test i did a fast forest road and some single track, turned around at mile 37, got a bit lost , finished the day at 82 miles, on fumes, had to lean the bike down to get the fuel on the left side , my tank is 3.6 gal ... you do the math , depends how you ride i guess ! still on my yz on 2.1 tank, my point of no return was 50 miles in so that tell you what you need to know ! still lot of fuel anxiety on the 2 stroke
Brotha, I never said I didn't believe you were getting 20 mpgs. So here's the deal, one, maybe the newer bikes get better mpg's (mines 2018 te300) or two, somehow a combination or running the green spring, hi compression head, and a lectron add a massive amount of mpg's! Most people claim their mileage improves with a head like rk tek. Guess what, the trail I was on when I did this test I was with a guy on a carburated wr250 and he went through almost exactly the same amount of gas as me!!!

I thought you were talking in terms of power, for top speed it makes sense, since it's completely dependent on gearing
My 2 stroke goes 92mph with 14 50 gearing

Also they are 250cc so they do like being revd out still lol if you think that's fast you should try a ktm 530/525 exc.. They do 100mph stock lol great for blasting desert fire roads! All that grunt down low inspires you to ride way faster than you should haha
How much do you think is motor and how much do you think is gear box? The low first and fast top sound like the gear box covers a wider range?

So many people think they're a track star that needs a close ratio trans and a 120 decibel race pipe to shift a horse power off idle up to 3hp at peak. They go faster on a mild bike and assume it's the motor and some kind of hidden horse power. Especially on trails the majority of riders would be faster with a wider trans ratio, heavier fly wheel, and instant controllable torque coming off idle. Because most of us are traction and control limited. Not horse power limited.
It’s too bad they don’t make a street legal version of the WRF, I would buy one for sure! Looks like some fun riding!

I'm right there with you but I gave up on the street legal aspect. You can make the WR street legal in CA. I asked someone who works at the DMV (who also rides), showed him the VIN, and he said yes, you can make it street legal.
