That's awesome that the reporter ended up buying a typewriter for himself there at Cambridge Typewriter as a result of doing this story. Obviously one needn't get rid their smartphone or tablet to make room for a typewriter as they all have their benefits. But if you really want to capture someone's attention these days, try typing them a letter. Writing one by hand is fine as well, but not nearly as fun in my experience. Good stuff!
I got mine like a month or two ago! Absolutely love it. It’s a great accessory to a room and it has a real use to it! I remember wanting a new one from Best Buy or Office Depot (they both sell em but found out they are only sold online) went to a very lovely lovely antique store that refurbishes everything! And I saw the orange typewriter on their site. How fast I went down there! Best $175 I spent! I’ve written poems, stories and random lil things. It makes a big changer in writing. It’s a new hobby I now do!
All of those text messages and emails are ephemera; they will evaporate when their operating systems become obsolete. The typed letter can endure, and they are so special nowadays that people save them. --Old Guy
A modern mediocre typewriter is mediocre but vintage typewriters are absolutely fabulous usually especially vintage full size electrics. Original IBM typewriters are excellent fwiw
