I sailed on her in 1979 when I was 9yrs old,. George Jessel taught me how to play Gin Rummy in the Oceanside bar while he sipped Martinis. My grandfather won the trapshooting tournament that cruise. They sailed around the world on her 13 times .
Ginger Rogers, Jan Murray, George Jesel among others were the entertainment as we sailed from Ft. Lauderdale, Aruba, Cartegena, Panama Canal, Mazatlan & Los Angeles.

I was very fortunate to be one of a crew member of this beautiful ship from 1973 thru 1980 as a bar attendant. on a round the world cruise I was captain steward for captain Lagaay and captain Van Herk.

So we likely met on a party in 1973 when in Hong Kong the three world cruise ships, Rotterdam, Kungsholm and Gripsholm met at the Ocean Terminal and as American Express staff from the Gripsholm we were invited over to the Rotterdam

Stond urenlang in de kapiteinslift. Kapitein Bouma vroeg of ik het spannend vond. De koningin weigerde helaas de lift en nam de trap naar de brug.
