正月 in Japan used to be same with the Chinese Lunar New Year but they moved it so that it aligns with the Gregorian Calendar as an effort to modernize during the Meiji era. The bamboo decoration is really cool! Thanks for bringing us around! By the way, has anyone else done any videos about Setsubun and Ehoumaki...? I think that's one of the holidays not many people think about ...

      It's not a decoration. It's a Shinto religious article.

Hau'oli Makahiki Hou John and Ohana. Kadomatsu's can be of any design as long as you have a Bamboo, Pine, Plum or fruit. You can also just have the Bamboo and Pine strap to your entrance. But the most important thing to remember. Within the first 7 days into the new year. You are to remove the Kadomatsu burn it or depose it with a sprinkle of salt and prayer.

I'm dying to get back to Japan and experience the winter season there. Love seeing Kadomatsu around Ginza. I have one in my home but it's not as nice or as big. Still...loving the feel-good vibes around Ginza. Thank you for taking us around!

If it's in your house the Kami are not coming, and you are supposed to have 2. One on each side of door and touching the ground or foundation.

@@RandyLittleStudios My bad. I just checked and they're both outside. I thought one was inside but that was a floral arrangement. Lol. Thanks for letting me know.

@@michaelsasano8622 yes both outside and they are to be burned to release the Kami withing 5 to 7 days after new years depending on regional Shinto customs. Not burning them can upset Kami and bring bad luck. My wife is Okinawan so different customs than Tokyo where John is.

My best guess is that the Kadomatsu🎍
Last longer/ look cleaner outside when not cut at an angle. Water and dirt (especially trash from the streets) can’t get inside the poles if they are cut horizontally at the end of a stalk…
    Happy new year everybody 🎉😃

As for Jiro, I believe what happened was that everyone posted low star reviews, giving a low rating because the restaurant wouldn't allow photos to be taken of the sushi or of the chefs. And many were insisting of taking a photo with Jiro while he was there. I think there are sushi restaurants and chefs that allow it, but Jiro definitely doesn't.

Kadomatsu 🎍originates from China to Japan during the Heian Period. Pine represents long life and somehow it became what we see today with 3 bamboo in different sizes. Like most things that came from the mainland, it’s took on its own shape in Japan.

Considered inappropriate by whom, specifically? Where I am from, a household appliance is considered a wonderful (and useful) Christmas or birthday gift. I hope that you can understand that there are places in the world that are quite different from yours.

Maybe Japanese people think differently than we do. Well, not maybe, they definitely do. Try to realize we all have different measures of what's acceptable and not
