Not to fold it - meaning not to fold it and sleep on top of it to bent the heating elements that would induce split and cracks in the wires. The more you folds it and keep doing it over a year and the elements could crack, it’s like repeating to bend a solid metal wire for hundreds of time, the wire that is 3mm thick.
Thank you for the video! Also your video is more important than you realize. Many places in Canada, Europe, US etc having energy problems, high utility costs and problems. This means they are turning to electric blankets. Also electric blankets are the CHEAPEST power usage heat of anything, often 50 to 70 watts. Space heaters and other devices don't even come close on terms of cheap power cost. Space heaters start at typically at least 300 watts and even then cannot keep a room warm by comparison. So this means many people can benefit by your effort to help people.
Thanks for explaining the use of electric blankets safely. I read a few comments below regarding these blankets coming folded. In that case what to do? This video does not specify about under or over-blanket
My problem is rooms today come with ONE socket. So, what does he mean it should be alone in the socket? We have phones to charge and stuff. The average bedroom these days use an extension cord which you can use to plug in multiple things.
We have more information on electrical safety on our website www.notts-fire.gov.uk/community/safety-in-your-home/electrical-safety/ there are also links to an overloaded socket calculator.

Yah that's just tedious at best "hey can you check on my $30 electric blanket?" Electrician literally does what you would have done "Ok, that'll be $500"
I have a double bed with both sides of electric blanket that heat up and have switches on each side but the side i sleep on, the cord is damaged. Can i flip the electric blanket over to the working side? the cord is at my feet. If i flip it will the heating element still work? hope this makes sense
As Graham says, we ask people to use separate plugs for appliances that use a lot of electricity and get hot. Overloading extension leads can and does cause fires.
You said not to fold it but most come prefolded. Especially the ones that Ovo / SSE are giving out.

THANK YOU! EXCELLENT INFO!!
Thank you, sir !
Very useful
Thanks
Really good to use them to warm bed up beforehand then pull quilt off and let the humidity evaporate so you no longer have a damp mattress.
@BillyBatts Perspiration, ever wondered why socks become damp and less effective as the day goes on.
You would need a dehumidifier, a hygrometer and occasionally open the window to maintain humidity levels.

Repair tech not electrician.
@tzm1843 repair tech ... that's hilarious .. wtf kind of tradesmen are you... I'm a repair tech ??????
Can you use them in the bath?
🤣
I don’t know it’s coca-Cola proof don’t ask how I know 🤦🏻♂️
It probably uses 100W or less. Perfectly safe to use any outlet that is not overloaded.
where did you find an electric blanket that draws 13amps at 220Volts? Try 60watts to 120watts, or 0.5amps at 220volts
I have a double bed with both sides of electric blanket that heat up and have switches on each side but the side i sleep on, the cord is damaged. Can i flip the electric blanket over to the working side? the cord is at my feet. If i flip it will the heating element still work? hope this makes sense
If the cord is damaged we would recommend getting it inspected by a qualified electrician or replacing the electric blanket all together.
They draw Less than an amp. you could safely plug 10 into the same socket and you won't overload it.

@@nottsfire999You are wrong on this one. It probably uses 100W or less. Perfectly safe.
@@tzm1843 Use it with 1 amp fuse. Much safer than 13amps
Sure most would be ok with a small 3amp fuse they really don't use that much more electric than the old light bulbs.
