Great job on all your makes. Love the adjustment to the front of the tank. It looks like that was the way it should be. Love that print. Have a safe drive. Look forward to following your journey.
Thanks Betty! I got some feedback a while ago that when I show things, its nice to make them into outfits like how I would style them in real life, so I have tried to do that as best as I can, but I have an extremely limited wardrobe right now. Thank you for understanding!
I tried that making that toaster sweater twice in January. Both attempts were fails so you're not the only one who's not thrilled with that pattern. Love the flannel on you and am glad you've got some sewing time. Please stay safe on the road, that's gonna be a long trip.
Its nice to know I am not the only one who didn't love the toaster sweater. I had to use up my sick time because my company doesn't reimburse you for it, so I had a lot of extra time on my hands to sew! I will be safe, I promise!
Nikki, you just always make me smile. Loved the shell with the pleat...so cute, great save. The plaid tunic, and the cardi and the dress were all great. I see why you don't like the others but don't be so hard on yourself. Your skills are amazing and we all learn from you. Please show your trip and safe travels. Can't wait to see you in your new home.
Kathy, thank you! I loved the shell in the end, next time I make it, I will show the before pictures, cause it was downright ridiculous! I promise, I am not as hard on myself as it seems, I just want you guys to have my full honest opinion on the patterns because it is something that I personally appreciate when I look at reviews before I sew something up. So, take my word for it, I am not over here berating myself because something turned out badly, I promise! I will definitely do some road trip scenes, its my favorite part of being an American!
I truly enjoyed this video, and I have to tell you that I kept checking my phone to see if I was getting a text when I heard the dinging noise from your phone. Too funny.
I would love to see Colorado, if it weren't for the flight across the pond, I would offer to come with you ! Show us the mountains. I quite liked the pink fabric, perhaps with full "war paint " on it would look brighter next to your skin. Winter makes us all look dreary.
Lorna, I promise I will show you the mountains! I have driven across the Rockies before, but I was driving through Wyoming when I did it last time and it was truly breathtaking. I wish I could bring you with me, but I do recommend a trip to northern Italy, they also have some really beautiful mountains that are really majestic as well, and much closer to you! I was in Aviano for a work trip and it was awe inspiring up there. I think there is beauty in everyone's backyard, we just have to notice it. Wait till I get some AZ sun, I will get nice and golden before you know it!
Glad you liked it, I always have a laugh at my fails as well. No need to get upset over it, just learn the lesson, have a chuckle and move on, right? Thank you for watching!
I really like the plaid tunic. It looks really good on you. Super cute cardigan. Cute little shell, love the fabric and the pleat works great. That pink is bad on you! You are right! Haha. Yeah that sweater with the slits is nope! Love your videos.
Melissa, thank you! I have been wearing the hell out of that plaid tunic and the pink Butterick dress. But yeah, that awful fabric just looks terrible on me, you live you learn I guess. Next time I will use the red side!
Great job on all of your makes. Love that butterick dress, Vogue, and the burda tunic...I have that butterick pattern...think I might have to make that one. 😊😊😊
I live vicariously thru you, and I love Colorado. I have family there and lived in the Springs as a child, it's beautiful! Prayers to you and Meowzer for a safe trip. Would love to have you keep in touch so we know you're safe.
Meowzer and the dog already went on their roadtrip, so they are safe and sound in AZ already, I will be footloose and fancy free and able to really take my time and screw around with my route! By the way, Meowzer assaulted the driver of the pet transpo van and she had to pull over on the side of the road to get her claw out of her jacket hood. Turns out she wanted a treat.
Good luck with your move :-) Hope it goes smoothly and you come back online soon. Ya, going through Colorado will be awesome, though the snow can be hazardous. I drove the freeways going to and from skiing in a two wheel drive vehicle and did fine. BUT I hope you have studded tires or chains. FYI, pack a heavy coat, gloves, hat, heavy snow boots (hand warmers and down sleeping bag) for warmth in case traffic is stopped and it can stop for hours and hours.
love your makes. I made B6388 in four different fabrics, all with NO POCKETS! It's a great pattern for winter. I noticed that one of the fabrics didn't do well. It was thin and wrinkled a lot. The sweatshirt material looked the best, really kinda of dressed it up. Next time I will add some inches to the length.
This is the first of your videos I've watched and I'm hooked, I loved all of your makes, #sewprettykitty had the same problems as you had with the burda wrap front blouse. Looking forward to your next video, x
Thanks Ann, a couple of you have recommended her video where she put a hem band on it. I think that's actually a really good idea and I may have to try it. I do like the shape of the top.
Love the plaid tunic, so cute! I like the New Look wide neck knit top pattern but I’ve never made the shell. And gosh, that Toaster/Sew House Seven sweater...boo...I heard from people who had the same trouble with the neck band that I did (for View D) and I chalk that up to shoddy drafting. I won’t be repeating that top, I don’t like how it looks on me either. Great roundup of cute stuff!!
Thanks Viv, I ended up really liking that shell, I don't have a whole lot of layering tops like that and I could definitely use some more. That toaster sweater sucks! I don't know why everyone loves it so much.
Sewing at Midnight I did‘ like that version of the toaster, but I LOVE the funnel neck version. I’d like to lengthen it like the wonky neck version, too.
Ok, so I actually watched to the end. I guess the version I made wasn’t the funnel. Anyway, the one I made is short, which would look good on you. I need the longer version (no hips on this girl - all belly!). Also, those tops you made from the fabric you don’t like all looked to good on you. The body hugging fabric really works on your figure.
You’ve been productive and I have to say I admire you for making actual practice garments in scrap fabric. I bought the same heathered pink from FMF. Yes! It’s so soft! I may have half a yard around if you want to try making the belt. Toaster Sweater - I actually like it on you, but the reasons why you don’t like it are why I made the version with the polo neck. Does the Simplicity version of the pattern include that view? You might want to try it ... you may need it in Colorado! Good luck with the drive. And yes - love hearing about your life!
Hi Janine! Glad you liked the stuff, that pink knit is so soft, it feels like I'm wearing a cloud, now the color isn't the most flattering on me, but I can live with that, on you, I think it will be absolutely gorgeous! I don't think the Simplicity version of the toaster has the polo neck. I think it has the funnel and the crew/scoop type of neck, but I don't have the pattern in front of me to check. Now, I will only be passing through Colorado, so maybe for the day that I am there I will dig that top out of the back of the car, then as soon as I hit the Arizona state line, chuck it in a rest stop trash can!!!
Loved your review of the Toaster, though that is one of my favorite patterns. And yes girl, I recommend driving through Colorado, no matter the time of year!
Used the same fabric only red side for S 8529. I really like it. My side opening is only 6in. Like the neck as it hides my creapy neck. I did have to mark the back.
Wow considering you are about to move,, youve been very prolific with your sewing! I love the plaid shirt, such a great shape on you! You do have a really good sense of what suits you. Loved that first pink top too! Sewisfaction did a tutorial on the tilly buttons dress that is a twist top (similar if not the same as the one youve done), with particular attention to showing how to ensure the wrong side doesnt show, might be worth checking out. Great catch up! x
I got most of the hard stuff out of the way, just waiting to close the sale on the house, so I had lots of free time! Plus I had to burn up my sick time because I don't get reimbursed for it, so I haven't been working as many hours, it all worked out perfectly! I have the pattern for that dress and I think I will make it up and use the tutorial, I have a RTW dress just like it and it is my absolute favorite dress for when I need to look like a classy broad.
Thanks Brenda, I think the shell turned out really well in the end! I will take a picture of how bad it is pre adjustment so you guys can see it next time.
Nikki, yes to taking us on a road trip. As someone who lives in England, just south of London I would love to see Colorado whatever the weather. So, no, I don’t think it is stupid to detour. Detour away safely.
America is nuts right now, so sometimes its good to have a reminder of why I love it. A good cross-country road trip is soul food to me, so I would be glad to take you guys along for the ride!
I like the first long sleeve Burda. Super cute.I know you didn't like it, but I thought it looked so good on you and I didn't notice the hem weirdness. The Toaster looks different from mine. I bought the pattern from the designer (not the Simplicity version) and made what I THINK is the same view, and my side slits don't go up that high at all. I also have a little issue with the funnel neck, but it's not too bad. I have been wearing mine during the freezing cold weather we have been having here and they are cozy. But ya. I get it. Happy sewing!
Natasha, I have heard from multiple people that the original is way better than the Simplicity verson, so I wont bash it too hard anymore, LOL. I do love a cozy sweater, but I think I will let the B6388 pattern be my go-to cozy sweater.
Hi Nikki! I started following you here after your adventure with Vivmom. You’ve got some good stuff here and some lessons learned! I have made and love the Toaster sweater! Granted, we have different body types, you’re much curvier than I am. I had read reviews for it before cutting into my fabric and several people had mentioned about the slits being high on the sides so I added 1” at the lengthen/shorten line and it’s worked out great for me. I’d love to see your traveling videos!
Sandy, so glad to have you here! Love that Vivmom, she is the best! If I ever try the toaster again, I will have to do that. I may try a different view.
Thanks for another great video, and I would love to see pictures from your road trip. I live in a country with lots of mountains and fjords ❤️ have a nice trip and drive safe ☺️
It is one of my greatest wishes to see a fjord! Tim is an ocean guy and I am a mountain girl, so moving to AZ means its my turn to shine! Seriously though, Tim wants to see the northern lights so bad and we have a friend who lives in Finland, so maybe someday we can get to do both!
Love the makes. I never made that version of the toaster for the same reason. Love that twist top on you - if you can fix the hem..tape?? Looks super sexy. Given your rather limited circumstances I think you've done fabulously. Safe travels to Arizona xx
I would love to see highlights of your travels to your new home! 💞. I loved everything you sewed. Wondering if you added lace to you slit in your tunic. Just a thought.
Connie, lace could fix up the slits, but I also hate the collar on me. I just don't want to sink any more time or materials into something that I don't like. If I loved everything else about it, it would be a different story. But that's a good idea and I will try it in the future!
I don't beat myself up over my mistakes, but I do like to give you all an honest review. No one got hurt or died because I made a bad top, ya know? Thanks for your support Paula!
Girl you got your sew on in that empty house and Tim gone. Lol. You're way too hard on yourself though. I wish I was half as good as your so called fails. Lol. Hope everything is going well with all you have going on with the move. You and Burda have a love hate relationship seems to be. Haha I've never tried Burda and I'm sure I probably never EVER will. I do love that toaster sweater but I'm the same way about certain things, I couldn't wear half the things you can anyway so there is that! Whichever way you decide to go I would be interested in seeing, especially if you take Tim's recommendation because I truly want to hear what you have to say after your trip. LOLOL. I absolutely love your personality. We would get along so well, may be...or cause...a little trouble but we'd sure have fun doing it . All in fun though. Happy packing 😊😊
Thanks Peggy! I just like to give honest reviews, and sometimes things don't turn out well because of me, sometimes because of the pattern, sometimes because of the fabric, but I like to lay it all out there so that you guys can make informed decisions if you decide to sew something you have seen me make. So, I promise I am never too hard on myself, its like pulling teeth trying to even take myself seriously sometimes! I do both love and hate burda, I like their drafting, and I like a lot of their patterns, but sometimes the instructions are really insane. Usually I don't have this much trouble though! Thanks for watching and maybe we will meet some day and stir up some shenanigans!
@@SewingatMidnight I love your honesty and love the way you put it out there. I could listen to your reviews all day. Lol. It would truly be a pleasure to meet you and spend the day just talking to you. We'd sure have a great time I believe. I really do enjoy watching your videos, it makes my day when I get a notification. I do appreciate your honesty, it helps me not make the same mistake in fabrics in chosing patterns or what I may need to do if I decide to go with a pattern you've made and that saves me a lot of time so I really do appreciate it.
Thank you, I love that pattern as well. I would never have guessed that it would become a favorite of mine, guess you can't judge a pattern by the envelope!
I love that Butterick 6388 without the pockets! Remember when I made my version with the pockets? I hated it! I gotta make it without the pockets! I love the fabric choice! That Burda pattern is cute too! I disagree! It's very flattering! I also like that vogue 9055! That would be a great pattern for me. I'm trying to make my way to more practical sewing patterns! That's definitely a keeper! Thanks for sharing.
Tea, I read a lot of reviews that said to skip the pockets on that dress, and they were all right, so I know what you mean! You gotta try it again without them, you will love it! Practical sewing is great, but I think we really get to remember why we love it when we shoot for the moon, so I like to keep a good mix going. I think you need to give 6388 another shot though, it is my winter TNT this year!
Love the plaid tunic, I think it is very flattering. I just bought that pattern as it reminds me of an add for a similar tunic that keeps popping up on my FB and Instagram. And yes to the road trip video, I would love to see it.
Oh my gosh!! You make me laugh so hard. “They just drew little boob shadows. Who’d put darts in a knit?” I totally love that little plaid flannel dress. I am making one for myself!!! So fun!!
Thanks Lynette! I make myself laugh too, you should hear some of my cat puns! Don't worry, Tim and I wont post any porn, he's too shy and my mom watches my channel.
I should have used the red side, I may have been happier with the final results at least on the vogue top. I think I look nice in red, but I felt like the side I used really made me look sickly. So, if you have a skin tone similar to mine, dear god, use the red side!!!
Great youtube... love your reviews. From someone who lives far away.. Australia, post away your travel snap, , I am sure I will enjoy. I did love the flannel top on you, it was a great sew and the boat neck top too.. I must check the patterns out.. Your pink fabric is nice... fabric looks interesting and pretty up close and does look good on you but from a distance it looks bland ... Maybe its that sort of wear you just need to apply more makeup on... I have to do that when wearing black.. x
Thanks Kerry! Its always tough for me to get motivated to do a full face right after I get off work, usually you guys just get lip gloss and some mascara out of me, lol! Maybe I could dress it up with some jewelry when I am reunited with my stuff.
I liked your makes. It's so frustrating not to be satisfied. I have your last sweater pattern. The one you said you'd see if your mom wants. I really like the neck on that sweater. I want to make that one. Thanks for sharing
It can be really frustrating, I try really hard not to let it get to me. If I can fix it, I will, if not I learn something and move on. The neck is warm, but I don't know if its a good look for me, you have a slimmer figure, so I think you would look great in it! Especially this view, definitely make it!
You might like ITY knits more in AZ. I wear them constantly in the summer in WA state where the summer humidity is low, but I cannot tolerate then in DC they don’t breathe well enough. You did a great job with everything!! That black and white Burda top is extremely flattering on you, though we couldn’t really see the hem. When I made one of those twist front tops , I think it was McCalls, anyway I could not make sense of the directions. I finally took the shirt and directions down to my husband , who is an engineer, and said pretend this is sheet metal, and help me figure this out! Once it made sense, it really made sense, but it twisted my brain. You have been sewing up a stor,!
Carole, I was actually ok with the directions, maybe its because I have a mechanic's brain, LOL. I just think I would do better with a fabric that had a less obvious wrong side, that's where my issues were with the twist. It took me a solid couple of minutes messing with it to hide the wrong sides that were showing in the twist. If I end up wearing it a lot, I will maybe make some more if I can figure out a work around to the back neck. Ugh it was making me crazy!!!!
I don't know why you're being so critical of your makes. I love all of these makes. The cardigan is lovely on. I have a similar pattern in my size range that I haven't made yet, but on my list. The first thing I noticed a bout the top was the cute adjustment at the neck. Loved it. Thought it was part of the pattern. Pysche. Lol
We are our own worst critics, I try to be super honest about my thoughts on the things that I make so that anyone who wants to sew them has an idea of what they are up against. I know that honest reviews help me a lot when I am sewing something for the first time, so what you get here is the honest truth. I was also pleasantly surprised with the shell top! You should have seen how bad it was, the whole top half of the shirt looked like it was melting. LOL! I really need to start taking pics of how things look before I mess with them so you can get the full effect, I was laughing my ass off looking at that mess in the mirror and it turned out really nice in the end!
Hello funny girl! Loved seeing your makes and comments - especially the “larger base” reference. Cracked me up. I’m at the end of the world today - literally. Ushuaia, Argentina. Basically Antartica. Weird. Today we’ll visit a penguin rookery. Missing my sewing! I’ll be back in 1 1/2 weeks. Hope your travels through Colorado are awesome and safe. Come to Oregon and visit me - I’ll show you some mountains (and my sewing rooms)! Hugs..
Loriann, you and your husband are my globetrotting dream couple! I don't know how Tim thinks our retirement should look, but I will tell him stories of you and convince him that that is our future! Also, I loved what I saw of Oregon, I lived on the Puget sound in Washington for 5 years and it was so beautiful that it took my breath away. I had the opportunity to see a little bit of Oregon while I was up there and I would love to see more!
Oh - that is so awesome that you got to live in the Puget sound area of WA. Oregon is basically like WA but without a sales tax - woo hoo! I’m a little bummed at the moment. We were supposed to spend the day in the Falkland Islands, but a nasty storm was on our tails and the waves were becoming increasing rough so the captain went near the port and back out again. I was so looking forward to hearing the English accent again. This cruise is roughly divided up about 40% Americans, 40% Spanish countries, and 20% Germans. Lately we’ve been seated next to Germans so I’ve been practicing my high school German on them. They don’t think that I know German so they have long conversations around us. Before we leave our table, I usually say something in German to them which always shocks/surprises them! Cracks me up. Mostly, they’re delighted that someone tries to speak their language. Tee hee. Can’t wait till you get settled in to your new home. Hope it has a wonderful sewing room/space for you.
Just a thought, are the Burda instructions poor due to the translation ? They originate in German and are translated into many languages. My friend specialises in sorting bad german translations for companies and I have seen her work wonders with someone else's terrible work. Translating instructions is an art in its self added to which the germans are taught to sew from a very young age and are used to far briefer instructions than we are. I have 2 German grand daughters and have discussed this with them.
Wow you've been busy woman! Don't keep stuff tgat doesn't make you feel fabulous. Give it away and move on! The toaster v2 is a good pattern but I think simplicity version is odd. The toaster v1 with the raglan sleeve is a great pattern. Check out sew pretty kitty s channel she had greif with that burda hem and put a band on it. I love your video s. Good luck with your trip!
Warning: make sure you winterize your car b4 your trip. Don’t forget to drain the water out of your windshield washer and fill it with an antifreeze type. Ask me how I know?
Nikki, the polka dot shell is super cute! The pleat in the neck really adds to the original boring pattern! Super slimming on you even in the leggings! lol The Burda patterns, they both look awesome on you, the fitted style really sets off your figure! I think with your talent you can make them work; all three of these prints I could see with black dress pants for interviews or more dressy events! The toaster sweater, what about lengthening the torso and grading it out so the flaps lay flat and maybe a thinner fabric would make the funnel cowl more! LMAO your sign-off is hilarious! Give it all to us! Btw there is a huge fabric place in Ohio you should stop into before heading north, I heard about it in another video last night, Zinck's. I hear it has awesome sales and lots and lots to choose from! Btw, if you provide me with your new address, I will provide you with Canadian Smarties as a house warming gift! lol
I was thinking I needed some more dressier tops in case I work some where that is fancier than my current gig. For reference I am currently wearing coveralls that smell like jet fuel that have holes in the crotch... So, its good to know that I had some success! As far as the toaster sweater goes, there are too many new fun patterns out there for me to force it to work, so I am chalking it up as a learning experience and calling it a day, lol. I just googled Zincks and I may actually do a stop in the Indiana location, I think it would fit in best with my route. I will have to see how I am doing on time, but hell yeah!
Canadian Smarties are brightly coloured candy coated chocolate discs a bit smaller than a dime (like plain M&M's), American Smarties are sweet/sour tiny little discs in pale shades of colour, we call these Rockets, not sure if that is a trademark name or the producer but that's what we call them! LMAO= Laugh my a$$ off, BTW= by the way.
I bet the "American Picker's' would love those coveralls they seem to snatch them up pretty frequently on their show! lol Glad you checked out Zinck's, I had to laugh, just as I was typing the previous message to you about the store, Hubs asked, 'why is there huge fabric outlet's from Ohio coming up on my Pinterest feed?' I told him I had no idea because I don't use his laptop but talk about co-inky-dinks! Getting into Pharmaceuticals you will likely be in scrubs all day and not needing fancy clothes, but then you will really want to rock the fashions on your down time! Be safe on your travels-we want you back online safe and sound!
@@cecilehoare3053 We have Smarties here, had them since the early sixties. Small round and brightly coloured coating over milk chocolate. Much nicer than M&M's, ours are sold in tubes. I have an old friend who now lives in Canada, I must ask her if they are the same. Thanks for the info on the abbreviations , hadn't heard them before.
You know, I was so bummed out at first, but after I messed with it, I really like it and I may make a few more even though "technically" it didn't fit. I like that little pleat detail!
I haven't tried that one, I could shorten it, but I don't think the problem is the length, I think its the layers of fabric that are causing all the trouble. Someone told me to try putting a band on it. I do like the look of the Anderson blouse, very similar!
Oops, hope the first part got through. You have wide hips. Do you have someone who can help you make Muslim patterns that fit your body? If not, I would try a fabric with a stiffer body to it, and maybe try pay attention to to si z of the hip. Keep going! A lot of fabric gets resewn tell we find ourselves!
I think this will be the most careful roadtrip I have ever done, I have promised not to sleep in my car at truck stops this time. I would add a "LOL", but I'm serious, I actually had to promise.
Show us the stuff! ALL the stuff! Safe travels!! Take your car in and have it serviced. Tell them you are about to take a long trip and have them give it a good look over. Breakdowns while traveling..yuck.
Road trips feed my soul, great advice and I will take it! In my younger years I slept in my car at rest stops, but now I have the luxury of stopping for the night, so I promised all my loved ones that I would not roll the dice with my personal safety anymore! I guess I can also drive a well serviced car for you LB!
I love your sews🌼🌼👏💞🌴👑💄🌠☕But wear a half slip under your outfits that you wear opagues stockings😏👏🌼You can get mini half slips↪▪🎀then your stockings won't grap your clothes!! That is what I do!! I am not trying to be rude👍🎀 who wants to wear a slip ▪ not me! BUT with my stockings I do!! Just subscribed. Loved your video!! From a sister sewist💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
Hi Debi! You are not rude, I promise, I give you guys honesty and I expect to get it right back. I always love to hear helpful tips as well and honest feedback. I am pretty good at spotting the difference between nasty gals and good intentions. I have never tried a slip before, and now you have me curious. I think once I am reunited with my full closet I will see what I can do!
Please put some scenic footage. Where are you moving to? Ive moved 31 times in 32years of marriage. I always wanted to Colorado. We love snow but never made anywhere snowy. We tried Florida but it was hot. Safe trave;s/
I am working on that, the first leg of my trip I didn't really get anything good. So, now that I have found the problem, when I drive from Michigan to Arizona, I will do a better job.
Susan Peach. Hi so sad you had some bad sewing, love the plaid tunic. I also had problem with S8529. I made top 2" longer love the splits but hate the neck. have just made view D and like this one better. I still think your hard on your self about your size, I thought you looked good in your legging. x
Hi Susan! I promise, I love my body, I just like to get the facts out there, and the facts are that leggings are NOT pants in my fashion playbook, LOL. I was trying to excuse the leggings as pants rather than what my body looked like in the leggings, I promise, me and my big ass are normally really good friends! I am going to hang on to the pattern and try view D, Vivmom also made that view and it looked pretty good on her.
I bought the Simplicity "toaster" pattern and hated it. It really isn't anything like the Sew House 7. I've wondered how they get away with calling it a toaster. That funnel neck with the weird fold is awful and I have worn it backwards. The only way I could tell is because the shoulder seams should be facing the back.
We have awesome BBQ and fabulous wine and Dallas am told has great fabric places sooooooo really what more could you want LOL. Plus I'm dying to go there but am a bit scared because when they talk I have no idea what they are saying to me. Grain this salvage that my poor google is like I told what that means already 🤣 but Mountains are hard to complete with. Enjoy your drive, it's not often you get to do this.
You should go to see Tomcatsticheries she uses a tape for hemming knits and I am sorry to say, that is not the real Toaster Sweater! Where are the raglan sleeves and that collar is terrible! Beside that most of your makes are nice! The pink looks good on you! I would love to see Colorado! Went a few times to see the Rockies in Alberta, Canada and I sure cannot get enough of those mountains! Drive safe! TFS. Christine
Christine, you are absolutely right, I have heard some people say the Simplicity version of the toaster is not good like the real one. I am a mountain kind of girl, I have passed through the rockies in Wyoming before, but not Colorado, so I am about as excited as you are! I love road trips!
I've made loads of toaster sweaters. They look and wear so well. You really need to purchase the proper toaster from sew house seven. I don't think the simplicity collab is the same. The funnel neck version is my favourite which has the deep cuffs and hem band and is closer fitting. It's way more flattering.
Love tour pink dress. Check out Sew Pretty Kitty’s channel if you have time, she made a spotty wrap top very similar to yours (not sure if it was the same pattern), but also had probs which she sorted for the next one. I always have the problem you had with the top you put the pleat in. Of I choose a size big enough for my bust and body it is far too wide at the top, far more than can be dealt with by a narrow shoulder adjustment. This has stopped me sewing clothes at the moment, as I cannot find the answer to it!
You know Sara, normally I choose my size in Big 4 using the Nancy Zieman method, which ignores the bust measurement. If I went by bust I would be at least a 16, I usually go with a 12 and adjust for the bust where necessary. So, I don't know why this one was so huge, it is a mystery to me! Anyway, I recommend checking out Nancy Ziemans website and looking up how to choose a pattern. Give that a try and let me know how it goes.
Sewing at Midnight Thank you so much for your reply. I will have a look for NZ. It has been so frustrating, I can sew simple garments but just cannot get the fit. X
The burda pattern 6838 is not a good pattern. I had the exact same problem you had so I’ve never worn the top nor do I ever plan to sew it again. The instructions were terrible ,just as you said!
The shirt with the long sleeves doesn’t work and I can tell it’s not your sewing. Even the ones I buy have the same issues across the chest and the hem. Other than that it fits pretty good.
I love watching what you make with what doesn’t work and what does! I love 💕 love the plaid shirt! You are great!
They wont all be winners, I like to be honest with all of you about that. I love that plaid shirt too! Thanks for watching Tina!
ENJOY SEEING THE GARMENTS YOU MAKE.YOU DO A GREAT JOB!
thank you Lena!
Great job on all your makes. Love the adjustment to the front of the tank. It looks like that was the way it should be. Love that print. Have a safe drive. Look forward to following your journey.
Thanks Donna, I think it turned out pretty nice too!
Love love love the makes! Super love the black and purple dot fabric.
Donna, I really like it too! I had it tossed in the muslin fabric bin, who would have thought it would look so cool all made up!
I enjoy your humor and honesty. Keep the videos coming please.
As you wish Jodi! More laughs and brutal truths coming right up!
“I don’t need that much drama out of a shirt” 🤣
Lol, I crack myself up. True story though.
You have done a great job with your pattern choices. Love your style. Very cute tops!
Thanks Dee!
I LOVE Burda 6475 on you...very flattering. Also, your leggings are just fine, no need to explain. Thanks.
Thanks Betty! I got some feedback a while ago that when I show things, its nice to make them into outfits like how I would style them in real life, so I have tried to do that as best as I can, but I have an extremely limited wardrobe right now. Thank you for understanding!
Wow so many makes! I love the cardigan i agree that with the ties it will look amazing! Thanks for sharing!!😊
Thanks Andreanne! That's what happens when I use up all my work sick time and have nothing to do in the house!
Too funny.
I know, I always forget to put it on silent when I am filming! Sorry for the distraction!
No, no need to apologize. It gave me a chuckle when I realized it wasn’t my phone. I thought it was funny.
Would love to see your road trip and interview with Mom--- Be safe & drive carefully! Thanks for taking time to show latest makes!
No problem, keep your eyes peeled for a new video, I am way off schedule!!
You make me laugh so much! Love your wins and fails, thanks for sharing!
I love your videos so much! Please continue ❤❤❤
I wont stop unless I have to, I promise! Thanks for watching!
I really like the flannel on you! So cute😍
Thank you so much!
Nikki. I liked all of them!!!
Please take us along with you on your trip. You are so much fun to watch it would be great going with you Be safe
Teresa, I would be happy to bring you all along with me!
Yessssss I wanna see your road trip and looking forward to seeing you and your mom together
You guys are going to love her!!!
Great job on all of your makes. Love that butterick dress, Vogue, and the burda tunic...I have that butterick pattern...think I might have to make that one. 😊😊😊
I definitely recommend the Butterick dress, its becoming a real TNT!
Its such a great pattern! Comfy, but put together. I think its my winter TNT dress from now on!
The 1st two are my favourites. Now I need go buy them for myself 😊
I love the mountains so much!! I have been stuck in flat boring Maryland for way too long, I need some majestic rocky mountain vistas in my life!
Used the same fabric only red side for S 8529. I really like it. My side opening is only 6in. Like the neck as it hides my creapy neck. I did have to mark the back.
Kathy, I totally should have used the red side, LOL! Im glad you love it!
Have a great trip and be safe... will look forward to whatever you share along the way!
Thanks Heather! I am itching to get on the road, I haven't had a really good road trip in almost 8 years!!!
Thought the adjustment to the shell looked great and i loved the plaid top, great job!!!
I like all those shirts, that toaster sweater looks amazing on you!!!
Jeanette, no way! I hated that damn thing! Im going to stick it on my mom and see how she looks in it.
You are welcome here any time 😊
Love the makes. I never made that version of the toaster for the same reason. Love that twist top on you - if you can fix the hem..tape?? Looks super sexy. Given your rather limited circumstances I think you've done fabulously. Safe travels to Arizona xx
Thanks Kathie! Sometimes I just need things to grow on me, so nothing is going straight to the trash just yet. Thanks for watching!
Looking forward to your roadtrip, like your makes , Most of it is succes you tackle setbacks with right attitude ☺
I don't beat myself up over my mistakes, but I do like to give you all an honest review. No one got hurt or died because I made a bad top, ya know? Thanks for your support Paula!
Hi regarding Burda 6838 I watched a blog today with the same problem .I also sewed this .Put a band on the bottom and it will sit better
That is an excellent idea! What is the name of the blog you saw so I can see how they did it?
She is called Sew pretty kitty and it’s the New fabric! and Burda 6838 pattern review .Hope it helps.
I was just going to say this!!
Yes, I would love to see where you go!!!
Your candor is refreshing!
Thanks Norma!
6388 looks so cute on you! Definitely make that again at some point. I love that color on you too!
Thank you, I love that pattern as well. I would never have guessed that it would become a favorite of mine, guess you can't judge a pattern by the envelope!
That neckline would drive me insane. At least you did a god job sewing it.
Thanks Sonia, I felt the same way!
Ok, road trip video it is! I am entertaining selections for things to see from Michigan down to AZ!
Great sewing and cute figure flattering on you! 🤗
Thanks Debi!
Oh my gosh!! You make me laugh so hard. “They just drew little boob shadows. Who’d put darts in a knit?” I totally love that little plaid flannel dress. I am making one for myself!!! So fun!!
And I will watch anything you post. (Well within reason)
Thanks Lynette! I make myself laugh too, you should hear some of my cat puns! Don't worry, Tim and I wont post any porn, he's too shy and my mom watches my channel.
I like the shell as is. I also think it flatters you. You should make more. Your tweakers nice!
I agree, I should make more!
I got the same fabric you used on the toaster sweater. I thought the red side was the right side.
@@SewingatMidnight My attitude is the same. I try and always make it work? Good luck on your move. I know You'll be glad when you get all settled
What are ITY knits, keep meaning to ask ?
Nikki, of course we want to see the sights of your road trip!
Deal, coming right up!
I would highly recommend that you get on "sure fit design" pattern fitting you tubes. Glenda can help you with your fit.
I love her!
For your travels...there is an app called NeedleTravel. It locates the fabric stores !! Hope you are having a great trip!!! 🚘🛣
Thanks for the tip LB, I am having a great time so far!
I love the shell as is! No sleeves
I think sleeveless will serve me well in the future in AZ!
I love the tuck on the shell
I thought it was a pretty good fix too!
Where have you been? You just popped up in my suggestions, and I'm so surprised I hadn't already found you!
Ive been here waiting for you!
Totally possible. I think they tend to be too brief in the tricky spots and more verbose than necessary in the easy spots. It is very strange.
😂 you're to funny. Love the 2nd one you showed
Thank you, I love it too!
I’m so happy you posted this video. Love your videos. I was going to make that toaster sweater today. ...Maybe no
Renee, it could just be me, make it up in something that isn't precious to you and see how it goes!
I think you look awesome on the shell shirt.
Thank you Sonia!
Hi! Likeing your channel. At 13:09 maybe an elastic 1" interfacing and twin needle top stich? Just a thought.
Keep creating!!!
I know what u mean about slits in the sides! Never looks good on me neither!
Its just a fact, I'm not mad about it, LOL. Big booty girls look great in a lot of stuff, just maybe not that top!
On Burda 6838. Could you put a band at the bottom or put elastic in the sideseams and Roosh them.
I don't think the ruching would help solve the hem problem, but the band might! I will look into that!
I thought the sweater you are wearing looks great!
Thank you! It looks nice at the top, its the splits at the bottom I didn't like. But for real, it was uncomfortable as hell.
I am definitely going to look into that, because I really do like the top and my only real problem with it is the hem. So, thank you for the tip!
Warning: make sure you winterize your car b4 your trip. Don’t forget to drain the water out of your windshield washer and fill it with an antifreeze type. Ask me how I know?
Kim, good tips, I am all about minimizing potential disasters!
How do " Canadian " Smarties differ from the real Smarties ? What does LMAO and BTW mean ?
Your version of New Look 6402 look fantastic on you.
You know, I was so bummed out at first, but after I messed with it, I really like it and I may make a few more even though "technically" it didn't fit. I like that little pleat detail!
Shorten the blouse. Have you tried the Anderson blouse from Sew Over It?
I haven't tried that one, I could shorten it, but I don't think the problem is the length, I think its the layers of fabric that are causing all the trouble. Someone told me to try putting a band on it. I do like the look of the Anderson blouse, very similar!
Yes please to the road trip pics!
Deal!
Hey Nikki Dena here. Be careful on ur road trip going to ur home.
Have you seen the fusible tape used by TomKat stichery?
I have! I will have to give it a try!
Love the pink sweater. Send it to me. LOL
You would want it even more if you could feel how soft it is! Its like kitten tummies.
I think they're called sleeve enders ;D
I was definitely on the struggle bus with that one, lol!
That's what I hear, Susan. Apparently Simplicity did not do a very good job! I cant even imagine why they would have to change it!
Wow I love all your stuff! Plus you look great in leggings ! Wear the top!
Thanks Becky!
If your coming by TX let's meet up! Snow is something you have seen so CO may not be that much fun. So if you go the other way am here.
Don't tempt me girl! I will let you know if I change course, I promise!
I like the first one better (B6388) it showed off your figure better. The fabric appeared to be thicker not flimsy like this one.
This was a much softer stretchier knit than the last one. I love them both, but for different reasons, I will make a bunch more! Thanks Claudia!
I’d love to see your road trip and your mom.
You will love Mom, she will be nervous though, so we have to be nice to her!
We will be very nice to her.
That one with the slits I wouldn't wear either and I am not big in the hips!!! The neck is awful.
Drive safe! TFS. Christine
I was going to suggest some kind of tape, too!
Christine, you are absolutely right, I have heard some people say the Simplicity version of the toaster is not good like the real one. I am a mountain kind of girl, I have passed through the rockies in Wyoming before, but not Colorado, so I am about as excited as you are! I love road trips!
I thought of exactly the same.
Tuck it in!
The burda pattern 6838 is not a good pattern. I had the exact same problem you had so I’ve never worn the top nor do I ever plan to sew it again. The instructions were terrible ,just as you said!
It was my nightmare. It should not have been that difficult!
Susan Peach. Sorry I made view C S8520 made view D first like yours.
The shirt with the long sleeves doesn’t work and I can tell it’s not your sewing. Even the ones I buy have the same issues across the chest and the hem. Other than that it fits pretty good.
I agree, I hope I can save it, because I do like the style and fit of it. We will have to wait and see.
