Like you I had a Maytag for 20 years and then came this thing. Mine broke at 13 months, the lid lock. They wanted $350 to replace. I took it apart and repaired the lock assembly with auto dielectric grease for spark plugs. That lasted for another 13 months and finally someone in China started selling a reengineered lock on eBay which has worked flawlessly. Now the glass fell out of the lid. I will reattach with auto adhesive. I’ll never buy another of these again.
New lids cost $250. My broke, I just lay the lid on where it goes and as long as the lid switch is engage, the washer still works fine. Maytag should be embarrished to put out such garbage.
That's terrible that Maytag quality has fallen off on the new models versus the old models. We still have our same Maytag washer and dryer purchased in 1982 when our home was built. The dryer had the gas solenoids replaced twice and one belt replaced. The washer needed a water inlet valve last year. I'd say that's pretty good quality for my money as I did the repairs myself.
Maytag is crap. Mine lasted only 3 years, too. My $300 replacement lid lasted 3 months. I will never buy a Maytag again. Oh, I called Maytag. They claim to have no information on this problem. Even though it is easy to find it on forums and on the internet. And here on RUclips. They make a defective product, and then they lie about it. Please come sue me for saying that.
