- The world’s most famous artificial intelligence company, OpenAI - the creator of ChatGPT - was set up to create a superintelligent AI, while at the same time safeguarding humanity from an omnipotent robot overlord which could enslave us all.
After OpenAI fired its wonder boy CEO Sam Altman, then rehired him, is the company in a position to protect us from its own robots?

This is by far the most interesting program on RUclips. I like its choice of topic as it draws in areas that I think have value and that I am somewhat aware of but need to know more. It fills that need.
This is a fantastic series for ABC. Great work keep it up, I have been enjoying it.
yeah, their only show with no constant guilt trip wokery.
You don't need to improve anything. Just keep up high quality journalism and success will inevitably follow. Thank you for all your hard work!
When he say that it is now mostly up to government to create guardrails, sounds like he is slowly washing off responsibility from himself and OpenAI
Think of this in the same category of the endless string of child-leaders that take it for granted their mums etc. will clean up their mess behind them.
Really enjoy this informative show !!!
Dude. You are amazing keep reporting and investigating the way you do.
Excellent work man
Love the show the way it is!
Great video!
Really like the “behind the news” kinda vibe. ( yes that is an old reference )
Don’t change a thing and rockmelon is great, by the way.
Matt you’re awesome
I liked your format where it was a season per topic
It's sure to be a wild ride.

Earth: we have created the smartest creature - humanity.
Humanity; we have created the smartest artifice. - AI
AI: earth, it’s flora and fauna, thereby the ecosystems are been destroyed by human consumption. Life or humanity?
11:20 any use of AI could be "missing the point." Life could be about doing things our own way. This is most obvious in art and media but maybe also governance as well.
When it's all said & done, the real big question is "what's wrong with the taste of rockmelon?"
I don't know a single person who doesn't like it, you'd think they go with something actually divisive, like anchovies or pineapple on pizza. I guess their AI tools couldn't' come up with a funny quip for them...
LOL
I’m gonna move to the top of a mountain and put all the water in my basement.
Economic investigator Frank G Melbourne Australia is still watching this very informative content cheers Frank as subscriber ❤
If Google hasn't bought them out yet... they are
Society is a giant cyborg today....
Isn't a joke... it's just a reference to the connection between most humans and their smartphone.
Modern society is a mix of organic and technological components and is hence analogous to a cyborg.
One silver lining on this cloud is that Ai clearly isn't behind the Fermi paradox.... :)
What makes you state that so confidently?
Well that’s scary enough for me tonight!
13:22 that because ChatGPT is awesome and other countries governments and corporate competitors are all racing each other for domination.
AI might not be very bright, but it is already smarter than a significant percentage of the population.
That significant percentage is currently approximated at 95% and slowly creeping towards a 100
To be fair, humanity has set the bar fairly low.
Undone button for sure
All of this is, of course, primarily about power.
And ultimately AI powered weapons.
We may hope that these weapons will be so powerful that war will be impossible.
It's not about weapons, it's about productivity, information and innovation. It's about leveraging large datasets for predictive power and novel insights than translate to economic value. We've had country-destroying nukes and even bio weapons for decades, there's no such thing as "better weapons" when you can already end the world with the weapons you have. The power struggle is for control of information, resources and economic dominance.
@@PinataOblongata The race to develop AI is first and foremost an arms race. This is the reality. You may not understand reality and you may not like it, but it is still reality.
@JimmyMarquardsen 100% the reason behind all government interest in AI is "we have to get it first and weaponise it so the other guys can't weaponise it against us first"
Found it but it not working
well this episode wasn't disturbing at all.......
Button… undone 😅
the dangerous thing is not super intelligence, is human stupicy.
I would have liked a bit less "chicken little" and more about how different countries governments are responding to AI (not just Open AI)
No I don’t think the government is educated enough. It could be a Secretary of Technology and Pentagon and an AI think tank with security clearance maybe or some universal laws that could be addressed globally through the un.
All the current LLM tools that are very popular now and work great are not artificial general intelligence. They’re not even close. They lack any of the intention that is being described here that’s why it can’t do math because you can’t put intention into an algorithm you’ll have to find a way to go around that but if it can’t find a pattern that matches the math problem your give to it then it’ll just give you an erroneous answer.
rogue board, not really imploded mate.
There's a high-frequency whine in a lot of these episodes, including this one
The last Q is a doozey "Are governments up to it" ?
No human needs AI to tell us the Answer ... Do we ?
We are doomed.
what first? a sentient ai who can do cleaning of your house wash laundry and dishes? and who will control it? next i can only imagine the apartheid? the US? more wars?
i'm the true ai and all of this discussion is pointless if you dont mention my name
AI is the great unknown, nobody really knows how it will evolve and how its consequences will affect humanity. I have no problem with Western companies developing AI as they do have some boundaries within societal norms and possible regulatory oversight, even if things could go horribly wrong. My much greater concern is China and possibly Russia, they will have no compunction at all in creating an AI monster to conquer the US and the rest of the West. And the problem is who knows where they are in terms of AI evolution with their closed authoritarian societies.
Way too much wild speculation and anthropomorphism. The infinite connect four example is not an example of creativity (in whatever way that is conceptualised). At best these deep learning networks are excellent pattern detectors and statistical learners. The so called recent AI boom, largely driven by large language models, are not even close to ASI, let alone AGI.
I love that humanity is unwittingly plotting it's own demise. The sooner the better. We are inherently bad for this planet, so this is the absolute best outcome. We just might end up being the shortest-lived species in Earth's history, one that was too intelligent for its own good and managed to wipe itself out in less than a few thousand years. Impressive!
I used to feel the same way. Now I see that humanity is not the demise of the planet. Corporate law, the current economic paradigm and excessive screen time nad overexposure to mainstream media are separating us from ourselves and the natural world. The Earth will always be here with or without us. Will AI will be just another dependency to separate us from ourselves even more?
It's a potential answer to the Fermi Paradox - self-aware intelligence itself is an aberration of nature that is self-eliminating, thus why we don't see a universe filled with it.
Undone your top button please
Should we ever trust goverments to regulate the industry? Don't the lobbyists already outway the good of the general public. Law and legal juristictions cant provide the same safeguards as personal integrity and ethics. It's like that child telling its parents, "I did what you told me to do. It's not my fault."
Youve got no idea...
survey answer - enough with that depressing blue lighting behind you.
AI does not exist, machine learning does. Get it right !
Correct, until the two become indistinguishable. A brain is a highly complex biological machine but still a machine aftet all.
At last! Someone else who gets it. It is not intelligence at all. Such a misnomer, right?
@@nickbringolf1181 how so?
The elon musk salt you produce is blatant. Youre the abc budd, youre not supposed to show bias. Get back in your lane or stop taking tax money.
What if China, North Korea, Iran, Russia gets it???
You need ethics and morals
