I love Kakariki's, gorgeous birds if hand raised. I had a beautiful little male for quite a number of years, very active, a mile a minute, chew everything but worth the hassle. And they do show affection at very rare moments.

Sounds like my bird during the first couple of weeks. Now he goes into the cage on his own and he doesn't bleet anymore.

I must say I appreciate your fast answer. I can do those things for a parrot since I had one that really loved me a long time ago and I moved on with her by my side. I will get a big cage and two kakarikis,I will get a clicker and live with them so well that we will be both satisfied. I know it won't be very easy but it will be worth it to feel that we made it moment. Thank you for the advice. I hope you will get the same in return one day. ba bai =D

Vanessa, every bird is different. I have three kakarikis and they differ in personality and in expressing themselves. You don't have enough information for anyone to even guess why yours is quiet- the obvious questions are-
Do you have a lot of chewable toys? They like shreddables. Do you have them in a room away from other pets so they aren't stressed? Do you have a radio going in that room for him so he gets stimulation? (Not loud music, either.) Do you have him on you often? They don't like petting, but love shoulders and you can put your cheek against their back. All these things will contribute to vocalizations. Try these things and see if they help. Kaks are quite vocal. I'd also play a youtube video of any kakarikis chittering, and see if he responds to the calls. :)

    Aqua Nelio:
no it wasn't the worst days of my life! It was just a bird unsuitable for my life and tiny apartment and the cage wasn't big enough for him. Kakarikis are SO cute, but very lively and not for everyone. They need an owner who can invest time and energy taming them and letting them be out and about. They are like "running" birds, so they need plenty of "floor space". He was not the ideal partner to my parrotlet, I have since found another parrotlet of the same species for company!

I think it's "Rondo a la Turca", by Mozart. It's a kid next door doing his piano homework, that I really enjoy listen to. He has made good progress over the years, but new neigbours has started complaining and I seldom hear him anymore. This I personaly dislike, how can you do that to a kid with a nice interest? He never played at "bad" hours!

please tell me: WERE THOSE 13 DAYS you had the kakariki the worst of your life? the hardest?
im not sure if i want one. i can get him a large cage but if he is a constant pain in the ass it's not pleasant for anyone.
