I'll never forget watching that game against the Dodgers in 2005. On an infield groundball and a bad throw to first, Dodgers first baseman Hee-Seop Choi was standing on top of the bag, then Rolen running full speed to beat it out slammed right into Choi. Rolen rushed the recovery, and the years that followed....he was never the same. He was right in his prime, a shame what could have been. No question he wins at least 2-3 more Gold Gloves giving him the second most in MLB history, hits 400+ Homerun's, 2,500+ hits, and is a first ballot HOF. Edit: It is a pleasant surprise to come back to this and regardless Rolen STILL made the Hall of Fame!!! :)
Scott Rolen should have his own PODCAST He's hilarious, and has a great voice for it. Also he would be a great person to get both sports, and life perspective from. Good guy.. Great interview.
I love Scott Rolen more after this interview than I did when he was playing! And that's saying something. This guy is my kind of smart-ass. I feel like we would get along well... Go Cards. Go Scotty .
As a huge Chipper Jones fan, Scott Rolen is the best defensive third baseman I’ve ever seen and his home run “trot” is the way it should be done, the fact he’s not in the hall is a joke!
He should have gotten in by now. But he will get in. And history won't remember how long it took to get him there. He will be there at the end of the day.
i was born in 1990 and im a mets fan. scott rolen was one of those guys you had to respect no matter what team you rooted for. his instincts and all around game were top tier during his prime. i think he was better than adrian beltre and beltre is easily making it into the hall. obviously the lengths of their careers differ but you have to evaluate peak performance as well and rolen is one of the best 3b of all time.
I have Scott Rolens game worn autographed spikes from his rookie year. I bought them at the Phillies ALS auction. I think Scott ends up in the HOF and I would love the chance to contact him to see if he would want them back. I have them proudly displayed however they could mean more to him. I don’t want anything in return I just have no way to let him know he is welcome to have them back possibly give them to his kids or keep them in his family would be my pleasure. Scott if you stumble across this comment let me know there yours for your son if you want them. All the best maybe I bring them to your HOF induction if I don’t reach you sooner.
Yeah, I thought that too, I was 100% sure that the answer was Pujols (my favorite player all time) but one thing... he was asked for his opinion. If he thinks Walker is the best then Walker is the best because being the best sometimes is relative.
@@EricOverOnYT But Pujols won gold gloves too. Great deffensive percentage and was and waaay better hitter than Walker. And I liked Walker but that's the truth.
So this guy played with Pujols in his prime and he said that the best player he ever played with was Larry Walker...at 41!! Obviously he has a personal problem with Pujols. He denotes a big professionalism issue...I don't care how good a third baseman he was. I don't care who you are, if you played with Pujols between 2001 and 2010 that's the answer for that question. Period.
Or he was trying to enlighten a fan base that already knew how exceptional Pujols was just to further explain how special Walker was/is. To draw the conclusions you have is unfounded. He had already said that the group of people he played with in St. Louis were all professional people. Doesn't really sound like he was trying to dismiss anyone let alone Albert. Furthermore, he jokingly said pitchers weren't players. He was emphasizing how fully rounded Walker was.

He said player, meaning ball player which also means ball sense and brain for the game , not just numbers, he emphasizes the word player and goes into detail about how walker did everything right on a diamond
It breaks my heart that he had to plea to a lesser charge but what a blessing that he's out. We must get to place where there are consequences for DA's & Officers involved with these wrongful convictions,

Oh shush, acorn sucks. There are plenty of other players already in the HOF who didn't "quite have hall of fame numbers". Rolen was one of the best 3basemen ever. Period. He should be in the HOF.
I love Rolen too. Esp defensively the guy was amazing, and like the dude interviewing him said, without the shoulder injury, I say he’s HOF no doubt. But I also agree w acorn sucks that he’s not quite a hall of famer to me either. He’d be at the top of my list of players I’d love to watch play again, but he’s not HOF to me, and it seems like from his interview, he’s down to earth enough to not be too bent out of shape if it never happens for him anyway 🤷♂️
Rolen is one of those guys that you’re not sure if he’s joking with you or if he’s about to rip your throat out. Legend.
Quintessential example of a candid, no BS, Down to Earth Gent. God Bless.

He should have gotten in by now. But he will get in. And history won't remember how long it took to get him there. He will be there at the end of the day.
The three greatest defensive third basemen ive ever seen are Scott Rolen, Ken Caminiti, and Robin Ventura. I never saw Mike Schdmit play
what about arenado?
@@pcarnold9 nobody better
Needs to be in the Hall of Fame. The icing on his career was when he crushed the home run off of Clemons in the playoffs.
Great interview! One of my favorite Cardinals Players!

What a player!!
Man I love that guy…
You played with Albet Pujols, Roy Halladay just to name a few
he has a very zen outlook
Sarcasm personality 100%
He deserves the Hall!
I love Walker, but I guess Rolen forgot that he played with The Machine. Bizarre.
Pat Burrell right?

Larry could also pitch. He was all round one of the greats

He didn't mention Albert.
acorn sucks walker is better
