Teenage kid: Can you play this song? DJ: I don’t have it Kid: Plug my phone into your speakers DJ: That’s not possible Kid: Yes it is I have an adapter DJ: FML
Your statement is partially true. If lights were not important you wouldn't bother to bring them. Lights definitely enhance your set up and allow you to stand out from the competition. If you're going out, go all the way and bring the best lighting you can afford.
+DJTEDDY507 Agreed but, what I meant in my statement is that you can have all the lights in the world and it won't make you a better DJ... al they do is enhance the performance - at the end of the day you are booked for the music.
when I do my gigs I say to the client to give me a small play list a few days before (10 songs) and I build my show around the genres and timelines in that list, it seems to work pretty well !
I agree! it's definitely about the performance as a DJ and entertaining as a crowd, not so much about the lights. Great gig log! Wish I can be great on camera as you haha
+DJ MoJoe Very true.... Your gig logs are great man, I really enjoy watching them... I'm still a choke up on camera... but, getting better the more I do it.
You are my idol. I just start doing a dj gig about 2 years form now just to let you know I always watch ur video every time I’m about to do one. Great job brother.
Sooooo true bar! You wouldn't believe how many questions I get on gear. GEAR DOES NOT MATTER. The most important this is the music. That is why they hire you! So true about the MC duties! Also now you see my life with the school dances with the requests, it gets outta hand!
First time watching your video...Kudos man...I'm a newbie wannabe backyard DJ...just have basic PA system and set-up at this time...Like your tips....good mix of music from the short clips....like the interaction with the crowd....peeps looked like they had a blast.. Keep up the great work
These old videos show up in recommendations and everything he said about lighting is the opposite now it's all about lighting with him and even critiques other people's lighting and set up.. still enjoy the videos. Keep up the good work DJ barr
Personal opinion, you should use USBs and get set up with Rekordbox on your cdjs if you don't already. Especially since with certain areas, you don't need to worry about getting your laptop stolen
The way I control request at parties is by having guest write down requests in my notebook. I have a notice by the DJ booth that says; "Please do not disturb the DJ, please write your request in notebook and it will be added to the playlist."
Great video log. You made a lot of valid points that I couldn't agree more. Great points on getting used to being an MC, I still need to work on that on my end. You've earned a subscriber!
I can agree with you on not needing soo many lights or fancy stuff. I try not to buy lots of lights but I'm soo tempted to invest in them because they do make everything look way better. Anyways good work as usual.
Great job man! South Jersey here.... Just did my first Daddy/Daughter dance yesterday and man, lemme tell ya, it went great until the end.... Once the girls knew I was taking requests, I had more 6 to 12 year old girls in the request line than dancing on the floor! Man, that was funny, but hard at the same time!!!!
I could agree more on all your post comments. it's really a challenge to go for those private party and wedding gigs. request really sucks BIG TIME! cheers!
your videos are excellent. And are very useful. I just started dj N. i really enjoy it. it's a lot of fun. I'm actually going to dj my first new years eve party.
Hey what's up man. You're Gig Logs are really cool. Thank you for making these. I'm about to start mobile Dj-ing and I'm a lil nervous. I've done a few parties and banquets. But your vids are really preparing me.
I just bought two lights but I'm not allowed to open them until Monday because it's my bday but, I think like you said they will just enhance the setup, not beneficial, just extras. Thanks for the advice Barr! Another great video.
Great video Barr! As per request getting annoying you can have a customized Notepad for request with disclaimers showing DJ will do his best to play your request as the program allows it. It has always worked for me that way.
I agree with all that u said about lights funny I was just saying that earlier and stumbled on ur video ...some advise is good advise but do what works for you! great job my brother
Bro I totally get where you coming from.. Had the same issues last event with rude requests.. what I started doing while I was djing on my Cruise ship contract I would just hand them a pen & notepad and tell them I would see if I have it.. that's the only way I got them to bug me less so I could focus on the music more! I highly recommend you try taking a spiral journal and a few pens.
I would like to add an opinion about requests. When I first started djing (not learning first, due to me being cocky and just jumping into gigs right after buying equipment) I was around 11 years old. since I only knew the music that I liked and have heard , request for me were a way to learn about different genres of music, learn about what people want to hear. I've always kept the same mentality, taking gigs that were waaaay out of my comfort zone, of course a lot of messed up gigs happened in the process, but the request is what made me better. I am 21 now, I've studied, listened and enjoyed all genres of music and I can say confidently that I "know" those genres as if I had grown up with them. when people like merengue guy or overly requestful girls arrive, I challenge my self as a Dj to fit those songs in right after. the most common way of thinking amongst dj's is "well if the song they want next kills the vibe then why play it? understand that its up to the DJs to play music in a way that won't kill the vibe (take a slow jam, throw on some kicks and claps on the sampler and make it into a pop remix on the fly stuff like that) yes it is very very difficult, but part of being a DJ especially one who is focusing on his mixing, is both learning and pushing the limits of mixing capability. please don't get irritated over request, push yourself to get those on right away in a way that's beneficial to the party vibe, your vibe and the requester's I understand you can't please everyone, but don't disregard request. pretty dope video by the way, awesome editing and video angles. great work!
+DJ Lost One I hear you man... Request are ok, in moderation. It just gets annoying when everyone has a song in mind they think I should play. Sometimes what the request will kill the vibe in the room so I have learned to balance my sets out. I will play the request if its appropriate but, I will not stop what ever I am doing do play a song.
Nice gig log. I like to see your logs. what is your reason that you are using serato with the pioneer system if you can use usb sticks and your laptop with Rekordbox linked ? With serato or traktor there is always a little bit latency.
Get that money bro! good stuff. U had em going! I tell u what though... I got myself Chauvet Gig Bar IRC and never looked back. Sets up in 30 seconds! Puts the lights up nice and high. Seriously 30 seconds. lol
dissagree as a mobile dj you have to create an immersive experience for your audience, this involves lights and well thought out well designed lighting not just throwing some effect lighting on the speaker poles
Man, I love your gig logs! I can relate to so much of what you say and show in your videos. Plus you have extremely good video editing skills that keep your gig logs interesting. Anyway too many requests make you feel like a jukebox and that's a horrible feeling for a dj. Lol.
I definitely agree with you in regard to the lights comment. I got two little lasers (inexpensive) and for my main I'm planning to get a pair of American DJ [ADJ ON-X RGBW] Dual LED Sweeper Beam DMX Effect Light Moving Heads. It should be enough with a little smoke machine. I need to work on my MC presentation, though.
Just wanted to thank you for all your supportive advice. keep on doing what love. You're definitely my ideal DJ. Have a blessed year and lots of spectacular events and gigs to come. DJ Candyman
thanks for the vid, you got pro dj gear - nice... question: with your 2 tops and 2 bassbins, how many people can your system handle for an indoor party
First off, you're video editing skills are legit! Get into that line of work you'll make way more than DJ-ing! With that said, ever consider getting away from the Christmas-tree light show? I get it, $ and time to setup, so how about something simple like an LED bar or some LED par/wash lights on a stand!?
Thanks man; I've been looking to get into video editing but I just started don't know much about that line of work. I don't own anything I just rent the stuff.
Ahh Mister Barr - what a great gig log - I love the energy and excitement you have (it's truly show's your passion) - I also dislike requests - what I usually do is ask the bride/birthday girl/host etc.. to provide me with a list of "must have" songs before the event, then if anyone comes with requests I can just tell them that I'm just following what was requested by the "main" person ;) - keep up with the great volgs :)
+Christopher Thank you as always for watching. Request are the worst, wish they would just let us do our job... Thats a great Idea i will keep that in mind next time.
I guess about requests that is something to be arrenged with the party makers because requests are something to be expected in every party I'm not saying playing everything but at least a little set to make everyone happy just an opinion
You got the skills bro. I agree with you regarding over emphasis on lights. It shows that you focus more on your mixing knowledge and how you present yourself. Thumbs up.
¿Como empiezas una fiesta? Tengo que ser él dj de una fiesta de unos amigos y no tengo nada de experiencia, no asistió a fiestas y no se que hacer. Cualquier tipo sería genial, gracias.
Good gig log man your party looked really into it and responsive all signs of a good dj/emcee gettin em into it!!! Good job bro I'm a dj as well and I really think my mic skills are wat sets me apart from others in my city
Really good job man... but I have a little technical advice to your pa. I saw that you always drive your pa into peak. You have such a powerful pa but that's not good always driving over the limit. But that's just a little thing. All in all you are a good guy with very good dj-skills. Just go on like this :)
hey barr yet another great vlog keep up the good work keep smiling have fun i always try and stay to a set club style he wouldnt have asked me twice lol
Thanks for replying man. I'll upload some videos too because people like you inspired me to do it. I also have screens now and people like that kind of stuff. Just throwing it out there as an advice.but you're right. What matters the Most is how you entertain the crowd.
Me encanta el entusiasmo y edición que les pones a tus vlogs dj Bar, buen trabajo! Tengo una duda: Esa introducccion en la que dice "dj Bar is mixing in live" : 7:19, como la hiciste? Me encanta. Me gustaria hacer una con mi nombre. Muchas gracias y saludos!
He's a 100% right Dj's get hung up on the gadget's its about the music , not how many buttons and sliders you have , you can rock a party with one light if your sound is good and your playing the right music !
Great job I think your lights are just fine :) nothing wrong with the audio at all :) only thing I can think of is trying to get the lights up higher. It's the same as if you sit your speakers on the floor once you get dancers in front of them they start to block the sound. As for requests I agree anytime someone is like I'm about to leave I don't play it. How I deal with requests if I know it will go over well I say yes I have it and slip it in ASAP if I know it's going to suck or might not work or maybe even they person is rude I say if I have it I will for sure play it. That gets them out of your hair and clears you of having to play it. 15 years of doing this I still learn something from every gig I do. Keep up the great work and the videos coming :)
I agree with you on investing in sound rather than lighting.....lighting is nice but sound quality is better....blasting your speakers and distorting sound is not good plus people want to be able to talk....good quality sound will be heard and appreciated.....and of course, your performance is what counts most...by being able to control a crowd....especially when its a hostel crowd and you need control on what's happening....as a professional, you should know when a crowd is getting hostel and you need to calm things down....ive been djing since "82...started doing high school dances as a senor...and then house parties and boommm it took off till now i dj....i enjoy your videos very much....keep up the good work....
Obviously you dont understand your job, if people can reach you, they will always request songs especially at a family event. Its your job to mix your song selection and also play what they like. Your job is to make people happy with music, what you like and what they like. Im in a band and deal with it everyweek. You have it easy, you just have to search the song, we have to literally lnow it. But that said, not going to hate. You got skills!!!
Yup man your completely right it's not about the lighting it's just a bonus for a virtual performance the mixing, song selection, and skill is where every dj needs to focus most. I have about 3k in lighting buy I've also been in the buisness for such a long time I have about 5k in sound but same thing I've been in business for long time I mean of course the sound does a lot and is more important then the lighting but the Djing is what matters the most. Keep up the great work man
the gig log was good but the profane language wasn't cool but that's you. One thing you can say is that "if I have the song you will play it and if you don't hear it then I don't have it". Oh yeah you can get a cart that will fold up and fit perfectly in your vehicle with your equipment.
Thanks for the feed back... yeah that at the ending is just to make the videos entertaining, i don't really mean anything by it. I just hope to make people laugh and keep them entertain while they watch the video. I usually am pretty cool about request but, this party got a little out of hand.
Great gig man, enjoying your vids , I got my first wedding party this Saturday , been practicing a lot, I'm a bit nervous but looking forward to it.
Bro!! To be able to record and gig!! Wow!! Man props to your proffesionalism!!
Thanks man, yeah it is definitely not easy.
Teenage kid: Can you play this song?
DJ: I don’t have it
Kid: Plug my phone into your speakers
DJ: That’s not possible
Kid: Yes it is I have an adapter
DJ: FML
Hahahaha!
You just man up and with a commanding voice say no. End of story
This is the best gig log I've have seen...... Alot of valid points! Great work
thanks man!
Do you usually allow requests if they are in moderation? I'm DJing a prom in a couple of weeks and was wondering
+Sam K Yes, I like to please the crowed but, sometimes the request are out of hand... I try to comply with request that make sense.

+Alex.A Entertainment I do that as well but, still can't avoid the request.
Bayardo A Rugama
Ps Great Videos (especially the drone ones ) keep up the good works your a talented man !
Kudos for being honest about song request, people just don't realize how annoying it is for the most part!
I agree! it's definitely about the performance as a DJ and entertaining as a crowd, not so much about the lights. Great gig log! Wish I can be great on camera as you haha
+DJ MoJoe Very true.... Your gig logs are great man, I really enjoy watching them... I'm still a choke up on camera... but, getting better the more I do it.
Facts!

But woo pig, you don't use the same lights for a high school dance 4 years in a row will you?
+Dj Woo Pig You said it bro.... its all about the music... You must go crazy with all the request. I don't know you do it bro lol
Awesome man, you really have a huge advantage over others being you're bilingual and can MC with the best of them!!
+JRMSS4 Thanks man... Yes, speaking 2 languages does give me an advantage.
First time watching your video...Kudos man...I'm a newbie wannabe backyard DJ...just have basic PA system and set-up at this time...Like your tips....good mix of music from the short clips....like the interaction with the crowd....peeps looked like they had a blast..

+Robbie Henderson Thanks for the tip... I will look into it!
Plus you can get an Ethernet cable and one usb and have your cdjs linked
The way I control request at parties is by having guest write down requests in my notebook. I have a notice by the DJ booth that says; "Please do not disturb the DJ, please write your request in notebook and it will be added to the playlist."
+Ernest Chester that's a great idea! Thanks for the suggestion
Great video log. You made a lot of valid points that I couldn't agree more. Great points on getting used to being an MC, I still need to work on that on my end. You've earned a subscriber!
+Allan Brown thanks!
That's how it's done!!!awesome job kid!
+Eli Lucero thanks!
I can agree with you on not needing soo many lights or fancy stuff. I try not to buy lots of lights but I'm soo tempted to invest in them because they do make everything look way better. Anyways good work as usual.

I just bought two lights but I'm not allowed to open them until Monday because it's my bday but, I think like you said they will just enhance the setup, not beneficial, just extras. Thanks for the advice Barr! Another great video.
And yes I'm only 14 that's why I'm not allowed to open the lights
I'm 16 and feel the same but I love lighting so run a lot of more fancy lighting, check my channel and comment if you want any info :)
+TheRCSChannel sure will check it out!
+Dennison DeNatalie No problem... keep at it!
You are Rockin' it!! We get a handful Quinceaneras at our banquet hall at the golf course. always a good party. Nice Vid!!
+Uber DC Thank you, Im enjoying your videos as well... Great job on the vegas ones!
great video I'm a big fan .
quick question what camera do you use for your gig logs ?
Great video Barr! As per request getting annoying you can have a customized Notepad for request with disclaimers showing DJ will do his best to play your request as the program allows it. It has always worked for me that way.
I agree with all that u said about lights funny I was just saying that earlier and stumbled on ur video ...some advise is good advise but do what works for you! great job my brother
+andre bryant Thanks man!
Bro I totally get where you coming from.. Had the same issues last event with rude requests.. what I started doing while I was djing on my Cruise ship contract I would just hand them a pen & notepad and tell them I would see if I have it.. that's the only way I got them to bug me less so I could focus on the music more! +PositiveP Tv Thats actually a great idea... I'll keep that in mind next party i do.
So true about the requests, it's always birthday parties over here with drunk young girls that are a killer...good video though man thanks!
+legod yes, its so annoying.... thanks man!
So glad i came across this video! Took notes for my next gig.
love the setup very different to the trend well done you rock the gigs so thats all that matters
+Dave Finch (Dave's Roadshow) thanks!
love your energy bro... let me know when you come to LA. Quick question what kind of camera are you using?
Will keep you posted... I use a Canon G7X
Awesome setup and job I agree with you on the lights. And I invested my money on jbl speakers also.
+Jerome Petty yes, speakers are way more important than any light
Wow Barr. You've gone a long ways, regarding advice & set up. .
I am 21 now, I've studied, listened and enjoyed all genres of music and I can say confidently that I "know" those genres as if I had grown up with them.
when people like merengue guy or overly requestful girls arrive, I challenge my self as a Dj to fit those songs in right after. the most common way of thinking amongst dj's is "well if the song they want next kills the vibe then why play it? understand that its up to the DJs to play music in a way that won't kill the vibe (take a slow jam, throw on some kicks and claps on the sampler and make it into a pop remix on the fly stuff like that)
yes it is very very difficult, but part of being a DJ especially one who is focusing on his mixing, is both learning and pushing the limits of mixing capability. please don't get irritated over request, push yourself to get those on right away in a way that's beneficial to the party vibe, your vibe and the requester's
I understand you can't please everyone, but don't disregard request.
pretty dope video by the way, awesome editing and video angles.
Speed & Convenience
+Bayardo A Rugama (DJ Barr) aren't your cdjs2000 with there inboard hardware not much faster en convenient
nope! you can not type on them, load music, fire samples and add cues as you can with a laptop with a dedicated mouse and keyboard.
Get that money bro! good stuff. U had em going! I tell u what though... I got myself Chauvet Gig Bar IRC and never looked back. Sets up in 30 seconds! Puts the lights up nice and high. Seriously 30 seconds. lol
I agree... your lights are perfect.. it's about the sound. your set up is nice..
Yes, man... Young DJs get so caught up with lights.
dissagree as a mobile dj you have to create an immersive experience for your audience, this involves lights and well thought out well designed lighting not just throwing some effect lighting on the speaker poles
Bayardo A Rugama i am 12 years old and am a dj
I enjoy your energy, it comes off in your work. I like your words of advice to the novice DJs out there.
adj kaos for him!
+Jose Heredia I get pretty excited when I DJ! thank you for watching... :)
Man great gig log!! Looked like it was a fun one! Keep them up man! 👍🏼👍🏼
+DJ GlennB Thank you, more on the way!
felicidades por lo que haces, cebe la pasion
+Oscar Salas gracias saludos!
Good job bro... was in your area this week. NJ was nice for this Cali boy.
+Reign Entertainment Thanks man... Hope you had fun here in NJ
Totally respect you on lighting front, I prefer matching pairs but that's me being fussy!
lol im the same 2 think it looks slightly better but the just may be me being a perfectionist aha
+TheRCSChannel I agree with you on that one it would like nicer if they where matching lol
Man, I love your gig logs! I can relate to so much of what you say and show in your videos. Plus you have extremely good video editing skills that keep your gig logs interesting. Anyway too many requests make you feel like a jukebox and that's a horrible feeling for a dj. Lol.

Awesome man, I want to invest in a proper system as well but, everything is so expensive. :/
Right on...
Just wanted to thank you for all your supportive advice. keep on doing what love. You're definitely my ideal DJ.
Have a blessed year and lots of spectacular events and gigs to come.
DJ Candyman
Bayardo, your video taping skills are bananas. Keep up the EXCELLENT work. PS: Your drone flying skills are crazy too.
+Ernest Chester thanks man really apprichiate it!

+Christopher Thank you as always for watching. Request are the worst, wish they would just let us do our job... Thats a great Idea i will keep that in mind next time.
I was trying so hard to get a glimpse of how you keep all your cords organized under your table. You should show that next time
I guess about requests that is something to be arrenged with the party makers because requests are something to be expected in every party I'm not saying playing everything but at least a little set to make everyone happy just an opinion
+ger102001 yes, I'm usually pretty good about request but, that party was out of hand.
Quinces changed so much since i was a teen I don't remember hip hop playing ever lol
i loved what you said in the beginning about the equipment that is really true its not about quantity but quality
+Nikhill Naresh thanks!
You got the skills bro. I agree with you regarding over emphasis on lights. It shows that you focus more on your mixing knowledge and how you present yourself. Thumbs up.
+JJtheDJ88 Thank you! I'm glad you agree with me. I checked out your gig log btw great job!
+Bayardo A Rugama (DJ Barr) Cool. Thank you. !
You should make your lights higher because the crowd could block the lights if their is alot of people.
¿Como empiezas una fiesta? Tengo que ser él dj de una fiesta de unos amigos y no tengo nada de experiencia, no asistió a fiestas y no se que hacer. Cualquier tipo sería genial, gracias.
Killed it boss . Nice !!!!!! Thanks for the tips !
+rmorales311 No problem, thanks for watching.
Good gig log man your party looked really into it and responsive all signs of a good dj/emcee gettin em into it!!! Good job bro I'm a dj as well and I really think my mic skills are wat sets me apart from others in my city
+anthony torres thanks Man!
Really good job man... but I have a little technical advice to your pa. I saw that you always drive your pa into peak. You have such a powerful pa but that's not good always driving over the limit. Awesome man - l keep an eye out for your videos.
Me encanta el entusiasmo y edición que les pones a tus vlogs dj Bar, buen trabajo!
Tengo una duda:
Esa introducccion en la que dice "dj Bar is mixing in live" : 7:19, como la hiciste? Me encanta. Me gustaria hacer una con mi nombre.

+DJTRANZL8R thanks
Dj Barr I need to ask you a question what is your favorite song and what is your favorite DJ controller
He's a 100% right Dj's get hung up on the gadget's its about the music , not how many buttons and sliders you have , you can rock a party with one light if your sound is good and your playing the right music !
+Alex.A Entertainment Agreed!
hilarious!!! love the vids as usual
Thanks for watching! :D

YOUR MY FAVORITE DJ!!! YOU ROCK!!!
Really happy to hear that.... Thank you!
Your lighting is..........
Good....
You are the best dude! Love your videos😃
Thanks For Watching Man
Great job I think your lights are just fine :) nothing wrong with the audio at all :) only thing I can think of is trying to get the lights up higher.
Thank you for watching! I agree thats how I usually go about request but, sometimes they get out of hand!
great vibe yet again dude 😀
+djscottywalker7 thank you!
What free gear really🤔☺️
Your mic is instant clipping man! But you were true on the skills/gear part..
+djwesky thanks
you killed it bro. great performance
thanks man!
I agree sounds r more important than the lights
Impresionante amigo!! Sigue Asi
De Donde Eres?
I loved your performance Brother.
yo0o Barr! thanks for this video. This was motivation to get back to my craft, new sub here! fuego!
+DANNY DE-VLOG-O Awesome man! glad I was able to motivate you. Thanks for subbing
dude love your videos.
+J ortega thanks man!
request from kids are the worst
+daniel Flores agreed!
not gonna lie, I love it. haha
You got skills!!!
sgv 1978 agree!
Keep up the great work man
+Coaster Army yeah man, you know it! Tho I would love nice to have more lights.... thank you for watching!
are you the one editing your videos or you have someone? The editing is crazy awesome. If it's you, you got some talent sir!!
Thanks man! Yes, I edit myself. Thanks for the love.
I just have them write down requests on a pad that I put on my table when I'm swarmed with requests works great for me
Take someone with you purely for taking requests, the last thing you need to do is get uptight over people making requests, rise above it.
ill keep that in mind.
Good man, don't ruin the passion.
Sick video man keep it up
+dj naqeeb Thank you!
do you use a ADJ power strip? if so do you leave the source on and just use the switches to turn on off ?
Get barr who did yout voiceover that was in the beginning of the dance mix,
the gig log was good but the profane language wasn't cool but that's you.
Cool, I got to get my mic stills in check. I'm OK on the mic but I need more practice.
Dude I love your videos and I agree with you it’s all about your performance
Hiya DJ Barr is that actually you saying free DJ Gear??🤔 Or is it spam
