I got goosebumps hearing this, and for some reason I feel touched remembering the past, it's a shame that traditional music like this has started to disappear :'(
As a western classical musician, I definitely see why Debussy and Ravel were so inspired by this music. Such mesmerizing rhythms and sonorities. Thank you for sharing this!

Your insights are wonderful! I am not a musician but a lover of Debussey and did not know about the connection. I also think Debussey was avant-garde. I love this Sultan selection. Had a cassette I took everywhere with me when I was in my 20's. Javanese music on one side, Eric Satie on the other!
i don't know where you got that data but gendhing raja manggala or prabu mataram always played whenever sultan comes to a ceremony or as opening song in uyon uyon. so in my opinion it is definetely played more than 10 times
@@GangsaEnthusiast I agree with you,Gending Raja Manggala also accompanies Sri Sultan when receiving royal guests. And of course the sri Sultan received royal guests more than ten times

There's a movement in In A Nutshell Suite by Percy Grainger that's one of the best representations of gamelan in classical music I've heard
