    This 3 year old video just appeared in my suggested list. Frank, I admire your dedication to hiking and your tenacity! I can empathize...6 years ago I severed an Achilles tendon while hiking and descending from Clingmams Dome in Smoky Mountain Park U.S. It was a tough recovery for me at 64 years old, then.

      Hi Chip, thanks for the watch & comment again. Yeh unfortunately I snapped a tendon on that occasion, was back out hiking the following week so didn’t hold me back too much🤣
      I feel your pain with your Achilles story Chip, I bought a pair of 4 season boots for some winter hiking about 4/5 years ago. I tried breaking them in by walking about the house, dog walking etc then when I did my 1st mountain with them I damaged my Achilles tendon badly and was off the hills for 5 months. Hopefully you’re still managing to get out in the hills over there Chip, it’s a great pastime.🏔🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

      @hikingwithfrank315 I'm sorry to hear about your Achilles snapping injury. I know it's a difficult rehab to fully recover. You're doing very well in all of your more recent hiking videos that I've seen, very strong hiker. My Achilles tendons snapping came on gradually. Each was mainly caused by very sharp bone spurs on each heel and a lifetime of long-distance running. The day the the right one snapped, I stepped into a leave-filled hole, 6 miles into a 17 mile point-to-point hike. The terrain was not as difficult hiking ahead 11 miles as backtracking up an extremely steep 6 miles. So, I continued forward... no cellular service and no other choice. The other Achilles required the same surgery, about 3 months after the first injury. I recovered alone in my home. I was hiking in the SMP again within 5 months of the first surgery and am full strength now. Hiking is my favorite activity now in my life. My profile photo was taken in the SMP after both recoveries. I'm up early today... inguinal hernia surgery on me scheduled for this morning, lol. But, I'll definitely make a strong comeback! Looking forward to catching up on more of you guys' videos in Scotland, while off my feet during my upcoming recovery!!

      @@Chiphikes wow Chip, that must have been some hike back with your 1st injury, and then having same surgery 3months later, must’ve been a very low point in your life. Glad you made a full recovery from it👍
      Good luck with the surgery and hopefully you’ll be back in the mountains, there good therapy.

    Amazing video - thanks for uploading!! I'm now well over 60 with some health issues but have fond and happy memories of doing this kind of thing back in the '80s with dedicated friends - hillwalking and hosteling on as many weekends as we could fit in . The boulder field in the video reminded me of my many climbs of Schiehallion et al although this was clearly more technical and demanding. We also climbed in the winter with axe and crampons. Unforgettable!!

      Jim Robin thanks for the comments Jim, yeh it’s great being outdoors in the hills. Wish I had started years ago. Must admit I prefer the hills with a bit of snow on them. I know what you mean about the boulder field on schiehallion😂😂. I try and get out as much as I can now as the years are pushing on as well for me. You might like my Stob Dubh in glencoe vid, as it was like an alpine day, blue skies and snow as far as the eye could see.

    Doing this weekend any tips of finding path to the ridge be appreciated starting from ski centre

      @hikingwithfrank315  Год назад

      Hi Ryan, your just following the path to the right from ski centre then follow that up until you see the shoulder which you just head for, can’t remember if there’s an actual path, pretty sure you just make your own way up.
      In the vid at 1.17 you can see the shoulder you head up to start the ridge. Have a good one, it’s a belter.👍

      Joan stewart hi Joan, yeh it was a tear in my tendon, got the splint on for 4 weeks, won’t stop me hillwalking. Back up to glencoe at the weekend 👍⛰⛰ you must be itching to get back up the hills as well.
