I loved this video! I have my first client this weekend and was freaking out on what to do because it’s my first session ever! You definitely eased my stress🥺
I'm doing sociology stuff (wanting to get a Masters in social work) currently and wanted/needed a part-time job (plus I wanted to experience). I applied to this job as I was like why not but I got nervous beforehand for the interview. This helped a lot.
@melancholystreet I didn't get that job as it didn't align with my schedule, but I got another one. I graduated in sociology, and I am now doing an internship for the county I'm in. I don't know what I want to do in the future, so I am exploring my options. It worked out well.
thank you for your personal take and info on this job. i work as a behavioral health technician for 5 months ages 7-18. and i was wondering how being a child interventionist work. and i feel a little scared to apply because i don’t want to jump into without knowing anything
Watching your video on a Sunday afternoon, I have my first session with my clients tomorrow! super nervous so hoping I can get some info to ease my stress. Lol
This was really helpful! I have my interview tomorrow and am still very nervous just because there is a role play part of my interview and I’m not quite sure what to do about that:)
hi thank you for your video. I am getting ready for interview this Friday. I need help for that. please guide me about most important things that I need prepare for interview.
Thank you for this, a recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn even though I have zero experience for psych and I was trying to figure out what it is for days
Hi, thanks for the video! Subbed! Question: I don't see any behavior interventionists jobs in my area and I live in a city. Does it ever go by a different name? Also, I am curious how much you make, but I understand that you may not want to give that info away in a RUclips comment section haha.
hmmmm... I'm not exactly sure about the first question! I haven't ever really seen it gone by as a different name tbh. and haha the second question. I started at around minimum wage! just a little higher.
Hi Nathan. If you're in BC I'd contact your local child development centre as close to where you live as possible however that said often clients on their role are not in your area even though the society or organization is. SO be ready to travel if you want the work. If you are already qualified you can find families that are looking for a BI via Autism BC. Some of these families use their Autism funding for direct pay. Not knowing where you live I won't continue but you get the gist, hopefully. Good luck, it's a fun gig. If you do take the latter route I'd suggest you consider insurance for yourself.
personally, i would try to find the reason why the child wasn't 'feeling it'. perhaps they are tired, in which i would offer some fun activities to do while sitting down instead, or perhaps they just don't like the game that i suggested we play. in any case, it is the bi's responsibility to try and find out why the kid is not wanting to do anything, and trying his/her best to try and combat that in any creative way possible!
Thank you so much for this video! I will be having an interview next week and if I get the position, it will be my first job! Question, how are you working? Like because of covid do you work at the clinic/office or at their homes?
hey! thanks for commenting and good luck with your interview! in previous months i'd work in the child's house or outside in a park (while wearing a mask). but the last few months our city has gone back into lockdown so i actually haven't been working!
thanks for this video! Did you also get paid directly by Autism Funding BC? How long did it take to receive your first paycheck? I started working as a BI in May this year and still haven't received my check yet :( But anyway I agree it's a very fulfilling job !!
I also just started as a BI in BC but I’m pretty sure you have to invoice your own hours through the Autism Funding. You can just google “invoice hours autism funding” and some things should pop up that will point you in a better direction. You should be able to ask your BCBA or supervisor for help/guidance also :) hope this helps
Hi there! One of my friends works as a BI but has a lot of anxiety around the criticisms that BIs receive online about being child abusers or just bad. She's an immigrant so her anxiety doubles knowing that a conviction of child abuse could get her deported. Do you know of any BIs actually being convicted or if any of those claims are founded? I know she tries so hard at her job and I want to help ease her worries around it.
As with any profession (doctor, nurse, lawyer, teacher, BI, daycare worker), there are good and bad people working in these roles. There is a "Code of Ethics" that all employees in a position of power are REQUIRED to follow. Every employee is responsible to understand their code of ethics. A doctor has a code of ethics that is different from a childcare worker/BI. Know the code well and do not break it's rules. If you are working under a supervisor who is pressuring you or asking you to break the code of ethics in any way, or who is breaking the code of ethics themself (unfortunately this happens), you are required to report it to their regulatory body--and it's a good idea to collect evidence/write down the dates and information of what they did.
Early Interventionists work with birth to three year olds. They focus on their overall development, vs. a behavior interventionist works with children who display inappropriate behaviors to teach appropriate behaviors, usually this job entails working with children with autism.
Absolutely there can be so very much travel that no money is to be made, add to that the traffic time (you don't get paid for travel time though some organizations will give you a little extra pay to help with your cell phone bill.) Because of the time to travel the distance even for two different sessions one after the other the traffic can make you late, or not show up if there is an accident (this is coming from experience) hence you can't fit more sessions in so please understand most people do this out of love and to compile experience hours to climb that ladder to a higher team member type position (higher education also required) or other position. Good luck to you. BI work creates an excellent skill set that is wonderful for anyone who has kid(s) in their lives. It is a very fun, active job and has many rewards!
haha keeping a planner and organized calendar for sure... and having routines for being at home and in the morning is a must :) it was actually very tough for me personally!

I would be interested in actually seeing videos on applying the skills that a behavior interventionalist uses..any recommendations?
Excellent, I am new on this
How did you answer the interview question of what would you do if a child wasn't feeling it that day, or didnt really want to do anything?

She should see a therapist of some sort. Those worries are legit no doubt but shouldn’t prevent her success in the field.

Hi Li, if I want to start to learn to become BI, what is most inportant certificates I need to study?
Thank you so much! This has been so helpful! I'm excited to learn more from you! Subscribe, I think yes..
I am a nursing student do you think it matters if I apply for a job like this?
I start my first day tomorrow I’m so nervous 😖
Do you know if there is high demand of hiring BI in Canada?
What role does the parent play in your sessions?
usually they aren't part of the sessions at all!
What is the difference between RBT & and BI? Is it the same?
I think rbt has more experience and his the training already
Is BI the same as Early Interventionist? What ages do you work with?
the kids i worked with were 4 and 7 :)
Early Interventionists work with birth to three year olds. They focus on their overall development, vs. a behavior interventionist works with children who display inappropriate behaviors to teach appropriate behaviors, usually this job entails working with children with autism.
I’m interested in this but I heard there’s a lot of traveling involved and I have driving anxiety am I able to work closer to home?
it depends on the children in your area!
