It was April 2018, Live in Freiburg- South-Germany. An amazing concert at the small JAZZHAUS! One of the best concerts I have ever seen in this club !! Know her music since many many years, 7 CD`s my own. What can I say...Kari Bremnes and her top band (here at SentrumScene), is one of the best experience you can have! B.L.,Germany
fantastisk allerede! I don't understand a word of what she sang, but, I have to say, this is the most beautiful female vocal that I have ever heard! I am deeply moved! Bravo!!! I will find more of her songs.
and so... a little late, I made an attempt at translating it for you. The song about the lighthouse at Tornehamn They erected it the same year I arrived The lighthouse at Tornehamn The ships needed the light so they didn't sail wrong The ore to be carried forth over Torneträsk, "The seven mile sea" Where the bay was deep and dangerous, for oars and sails The norwegians built those boats Åttbøring and fembøring most (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fembøring) In the winter the ore traveled on the ice by sled and horse. They erected it on the easter point The lighthouse at Tornehamn I remember the first night the light was lit A sudden light over Torneträsk, "The seven mile sea" We stood at the window, a few uf us, and watched I was thinking "that ore has gone dancing" (rough weather on the waters) Europe, Viktoriehamn I swore I'd travel further than the ore before the century changed name, before it changed name. They write Eighteen ninety-eight (corrected, thanks to @MissLoona'sSpeech observant eyes! Thanks! :) ) this night at Tornehamn They say that the light is lit for a different time They talk as the turn of the century is soon, the turn of the century But I think it is far in to my future.... Let there be sparkles on "The seven mile sea" This is not the place for me to find my harbor I'm twenty and ready for the great sea before the century changes name, before it changes name.
@@AlfOfAllTrades Just a slight correction: In the first line of the last verse it must be eighteen ninety-eight (1898) - otherwise it would have been attenniogåtti in the original lyrics. (I just noticed that the one who posted an English translation in the comments-section of the - so far - only reaction-video to this clip made exactly the same mistake.) And as an additional info one might add that a Norwegian "mil" equals 10 kilometres. Thanks to your translation, I finally also understand the meaning of "får svængt seg". That was one of the expressions I didn't really understand when I first translated the lyrics for myself a long time ago.
@@MissLoonasSpeech Oopsies... :D Haha, well I guess I either made a typo or didn't listen properly. Of course you are absolutely correct. However, if I go in and correct it, it will destroy your comment and I DO appreciate the correction (I did it anyway...) :) An interesting thing for me is that even though in Norwegian you're supposed to say "nittiåtte" I still say "ått-å-nitti" because.. I'm old, I guess :D I think it is really cool that I could convey the meaning of "Får svængt sæ" for you, I had a bit of a hard time with that one... :) Thanks!
@@AlfOfAllTrades I don't think correcting the error would have "destroyed" my comment, but you found a perfect solution. :) Perhaps you wrote 89, because even though you still use the older expression for 98 ("åtteognitti") yourself, you thought the expression used in the lyrics was supposed to be the one commonly used nowadays and since something "8-ish" came first, it had to be 89 ("åttini") instead of 98 ("nittiåtte"). The intricacies of languages!
Having bought "Svarta Bjørn" 22 years ago only based on an album review I had read, the studio version of this song was the first song I ever heard of Kari Bremnes and it was love at first listen! :) "Svarta Bjørn" is definitely one of my favourite concept albums and this song as well as "Sangen om ka ho Anna drømte om" have the most intense atmosphere on the entire album.
Kommen gerade vom Konzert in Hamburg.

Takk!

Rimelig stødige musikere her, for å si det mildt.
