Thanks Ben - your tournament masterclass is slowly and steadily improving my poker game and even more importantly improving my confidence at the tables. Still a long road out of the micro stakes but I am starting to at least see the path thanks to you. Clear explanations with no bullshit as usual.
Yeah I get ya mate simply because at micro stakes most players games are very unorthodox and wild so it can be hard implementing your gto game but in the long run you should still come out profitable
@@Charlton2010 True - however I like the mix of exploitative and GTO style that RYE teaches in ranges and content alike. Finding exploits for these unorthodox and wild players is fun but it can be quite a variance ride too. Its all about the long run!
I would assume the value of our stack does not double even tho our chipsstack doubles is because not the entire price pool goes to first place, so if you have all the chips obviously your stack wouldn’t be worth 100$ as there is only 65 for first. That being said my questions is if this was a winner take all tourney would the stack value double if the chips double as well?
So if the rest of the field gains ev when people bust even in the earlier phases does this means when we max late reg at tourney the ev is more than the buy in?
Slightly unrelated? Question, I’ve watched videos on calling short stack jams and they weren’t considering the factor of us losing those chips and thus having less fold equity in the future to accumulate our own chips. Should we be making slightly tight folds in this example: we have 16bb in bb w 33, CO jams 11bb. I’m pretty sure this is a +EV call, but should we pass on these spots sometimes - even when far from the money - to preserve our own fold equity? Thanks
I'm a bit confused. So if a Tournament is not in the money, every hand is still technically an ICM situation? I always thought ICM only applied close to the bubble and ITM.
Does future game considerations ever push the decision to a looser than chip ev play? For example, in the late stages of a tournament, having the chip lead stack as a competent player can allow you to open extremely wide and win a lot of pots with little resistance, which increases your equity in the tourney immensely, but isn’t considered in ICM. For instance, let’s say there is a chip lead v chip lead pot with 15 people left in a large field, somewhat too heavy payout tournament, and you get to the river with a somewhat marginal bluff catcher. Does it make any sense to call somewhat wider in that spot because of the equity you gain by being able to apply chip lead pressure surrounding the massive pay jumps?
I think a decent leak in my game is rejamming from the big blind v LP opens. I see on the charts that hands like J8s/K6s seem to be recommended based on the ranges the charts assume. Do you think this is optimal in reality? Ik we shouldnt rejam linearly, but are those the types of hands we generally want to mix in with our premiums?
Had this exact spot last night in a tourney with AQs at the final table. I had 18bb and was 3rd highest stack in the tournament. There were two short stacks with about 7-8bb. It folds to CO and he jams for 15 BB. I call with AQs from BU and run into jacks... lose a coin flip, and I'm basically out of the tourney. I'm thinking since he only has 15 BB and he's jam opening from the CO - his range should be wide, which makes AQs a call. In ICMizer it was like a +2.5 EV spot - so better than marginal - but then again the guy had pretty tight HUD PFR stats. Was wondering if this is a fold? Maybe I'm just being results oriented, but I think I made a bad call with ICM considerations; not sure at what point a spot isn't marginal anymore... if the EV is > than 1.5? I'm flipping against any pocket pair below QQ, dominating QJs+KQs and weaker aces than AQ, but losing to all premiums like QQ, AK, AA, KK.
Yeah I think it was a fold mate with two shorter stacks below you tho if it was a +2.5 ev spot then it's profitable to make the call in the long run, sometimes you just have to go with your own feelings especially considering you most likely have reads on the players as you play them in the tourney
So if there’s ICM implications early / mid / late game, doesn’t this mean that you should just always be tight? - I’m confused, I thought early game you could play a lot wider ranges then tighten up for ITM/Bubble or exploit tight players during this stage
Can someone explain to me how to get over negativ verians? last hand I played was AK UTG1 opens 2,5 BB and button jamms with A2 suited with 29 BB stack? its not a jamm? and ofc he wins, I lost loose my shit

I'm pretty sure a winner takes all structure means that we have to use chipEV. Therefore if your stack doubles, the $ value of your stack also doubles
Is that mean that If u have same chips as someone else, the ICM is not the same for both ?
So if the rest of the field gains ev when people bust even in the earlier phases does this means when we max late reg at tourney the ev is more than the buy in?
good question
I guess yeah

It is highly dependent on the spot, we recommend using HRC or ICMizer to check these spots :)

Gotta luck it up in HRC my friend! Hard to tell without seeing the results. It seems like a close spot.

Well, you have to be a little tighter, as shown in the video. Closer to the bubble or on FTs you gotta be extremely tight!
@@RaiseYourEdge thanks for the clarification Ben!
What kind of situation can I use ICM to attack the opponent?
When on the bubble or when there is a big payjump or at the final table - if you have more chips than your opponent you can really turn up the heat.
@@MegaUmfufu Exactly!
Just remember- Tight IS Right!
Yes make them all play tight so Addamo 50vpip rips his way thru another FT 🤌
