All these videos are so spot on and came out at the perfect time for me. Was worried about what projector to get as my next question and then you read my mind and released this video 😂
I'll be installing a golf simulator at home and plan on using the BenQ LK936ST. The projector will be centered on the screen so we can accommodate left and right-handed hitters. I noticed that you have your projector mounted almost directly above your hitting mat. How far in front of, or behind the hitting position can you go without fear of striking the projector with a club? i.e. what would you be comfortable with? I am trying to maximize the image on a 15-foot wide screen which would put the projector back about 12' from the screen and the center of the hitting mat at about 10' from the screen. Thoughts?
Jay, another great review. Any chance you can add/change lens to get a shorter throw ratio? We have restrictions with a carry beam in our SIM room and need a .5 or.6.
Awesome looking projector Jay. Am I right in assuming you have it mounted off-center to allow for the Uneekor mounting? Is there an optimal screen size, or a minimum screen size needed to take advantage of the 16:10 @ 4k?
Hey, I was interested in the BenQ TK700STi the lamp based 4K projector. Do you have any experience with this projector, and could you compare it to this 4K projector? Is there a massive difference in visual quality/color accuracy?
Going to use the lk936st for golf simulator/home theater. Room is 14' wide with 10.5' ceiling. Want to use the 16:10 for golf and 16:9 for theater. I dont want to mess with focus ring so putting screen on wall for HT and then retractable impact screen 18" in front. Then Im going to use sliding mount for projector to move it forward and back the 18". Hopefully I wont have to mess with focus by doing that. I want max image size so the calculator on benq is a little confusing. At max zoom I want 14' wide screen filled. What would be image dimensions in 16:10 mode vs 16:9? The calculator says both will have 94.5" height. I guess that means for 16:10 mode then it will just shrink width? I was hoping I would gain height with 16:10 mode and keep the width. Also curious if I would have to adjust lens height when switching between 16:10 and 16:9 or will the heigh stay the same and width changes?
If you can adjust the aspect ratio to a custom setting in the Nvidia settings when using a standard 16:9 4K projector then why is so much better to have a 4K projector with a standard 16:10 option built in?
Thanks for the great info. Timing is perfect for me as I’m just sizing my area up now. I have enough room that I can get an actual picture width of 13’-6” which will give a picture height of 7’-7” at 16:9 aspect ratio. Do you feel that picture is tall enough to just use 16:9 for golfing and media to keep things simple. I could probably get another 4 inches of height if I went 16:10. Either way I think I like this projector and will contact you for ordering. Projector central says the throw distance would be 11’-5” which puts it a bit behind if my ball position is 10’. Seems like it should be ok but interested in your thoughts. I could move ball position back a bit if needed. Thanks Dale
I have this projector ordered and in the process of building out my screen, I’m going to be at 14.5’ wide. I have 11.5’ ceilings, so plenty of room to work with. I planned on running GSPro at 16:9 4k, but now am considering 16:10. In your opinion, how much difference can you see in 16:10 wqxga vs 4k at 10’? I guess I’m curious if you think 16x10 is a better trade off than the 4k??? Thanks
Honestly I don't think I can tell. I would go 16:10 all day in my opinion it is much more immersive and the picture is incredible. I actually run my 4K on my monitor duplicated to the projector which then uses the 4K input and I just switch to 16:10 and it does a small stretch. Looks 4K!
Your videos are great and i can tell there’s a huge boom in golf sim installs in my area. One video I’d like to see before i order my screen is a discussion on screen variations. I’m going to install a retractable screen because my area need to be use for other things but there’s not a ton of information out there on different screens material and set ups.
Jay- Thanks, this is awesome. Very helpful. Quick question... If I order the BenQ LK936ST and the GC3, what do you suggest as the optimal distance from strike matt/tee to the impact screen?
Comfortable and immersive is 10' for me, I love that distance. Then the projector is directly above too for a 12' wide 16:10 image. Thanks for watching!
Robert, I’m looking at the same combo of projector and GC3. What software did you end up running for your simulator (assuming you’re finished and up and running).
I'm seeing some spots on the top center area of the screen and also what looks like ball damage in the lower center of the screen. Are both of these caused by use and if so, how often do screens need to be replaced and do they have screens that have a front layer that protects the screen behind so you only have to replace the front layer from time to time? Thanks!
Oh yeah all screens get some wear and tear. This one is about a year old with some serious use so not bad and you can't really even tell. I replace every 3 years usually. Some go faster than others. I don't know of any you would not want to replace after 3 or so years of solid use.
I just installed a 16' x 9' Carls impact screen with a 10' x 16' fiberbuilt combo mat. I all ready ordered the Benq LK953ST projector which is on back order. I just watched your review on the new LK936ST. In your opinion should I stick with the LK953ST for a 16:9 format or is the LK936ST a better projector for a grand less? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

If you had to put your finger on the best quality of this projector is it the ability to go from a 16:9 to a16:10? I have an Eiki now but still in the building phase (GC4 sim in a box) and definitely want to double as a sim/theater room. space is 18 x 16 with 12ft ceiling. Any feedback is appreciated.
have you had any issues with the screen flickering while recording your swing using your high-speed cameras? I heard that its an issue because the BenQ is a DLP and not a 3 LCD. I'm looking to have a dual home theater/golf sim, but also want to record my swing and use swing catalyst. Thoughts?
You will get flickering above the even number of 120FPS That is just the nature of DLP vs 3LCD. Now keep in mind that is only the screen image flickering, so the face on camera if screen out of the view has zero flickering of the screen. Some only have face on so does not matter that is why I bring this up. Thanks for watching!
I would LOVE to get this projector but I just updated my laptop (Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 NVidia 3070 RTX) and hitting mat (Fiberbuilt center hit) so I’ll ride out my current BenQ firing at 1080p res. Things could be worse. Keep the content coming Jay.

Just put this model in the projectorcentral.com throw calculator and input your desired setup. This eliminates and miscommunication. I prefer the best sim room to be 15-16ft wide, 25ft+ deep, and 10' ceiling.
@@GolfSimulatorVideos no worries, you did reply earlier! Maybe the reply got deleted but I definitely used your advise! And not for only this, also for the projector, deciding on which system, software etc. So big thanks from the Netherlands 🇳🇱!

I have a 12x10 screen and can't get the settings close for 16:10, 16:9 I can get the 12 x 7 look or right at it. My projector according to BenQ is at the right distance to set up really close. It is 129" away from screen and that should be about 143 wide and around 91" tall but I can't get that at all, has to be configuration on my part. Any help would be great, 16:9 is working fine but could gain more height with the 16:10 would love to do so. TY
@@GolfSimulatorVideos If you will see in my description of my problem I know my screen is to large I will have space at top and bottom, I am filling it wide and as much up and sown as possible, 16:9 I have around 20" both top and bottom but if I could get the 16:10 at same distance it would 14" top and bottom and fill up more. TY
Another great vid Jay - You mention you duplicate your monitor that is a 4k touchscreen - Please can you tell me the model and size of the 4k touchscreen please? Keep up the great content!
My partner has delivered a ton of them to viewers. Keep in mind some did have lead times due to supply constraints but he has been ordering as many as possible for stock ahead of time.
This has a big difference with the ability to run 16:10 in a WQXGA resolution but plus 4:3 and 2.4 as well. I explain this in the video. Appreciate you watching.
So in the mode you are running on the video (16 x 10), is it as easy as a switch flip to go to 4K? Are there any issues with focus, zoom, etc...? (I know you will get the bars on the top and the bottom when moving to 4K).
There is a slight throw difference for 4K so you will want to just balance for your needs. Pretty simple to do. Yes 4K is 16:9 so black bars would be on a 16:10 screen. Thanks for watching
Right. I know you just set it up, so bear with me. It appears it is not on an slider, so that would make me think if you wanted to jump to 4K, you could have a 4K preset that would then auto zoom/focus, etc.. for 4k. Switch back to 16 x 10, same process if you could auto-set the 16 x 10 setting. Hope I am making sense.
This is my question as well. I am going to have a 15.5' screen with a 10' ceiling so I'd like to maximize that for golf and be able to watch movies in 16:9 without losing that width.
Rather than use the native 16x10 mode, you should fit the image to your screen using the NVidia control panel. You are getting 1600 pixels vertically as it's setup now. The Nvidia control panel would allow 2160. The projector is capable of more than you are seeing.
So that is actually not true, I am running the max it can the way it handles it it is a 4k input. I tried just about every mode and option, the way it is now is fantastic. Looks identical to 4k honestly. Love it.
Quick question, if you can set the aspect ratio to a custom setting (16:10 for example) in Nvidia why is it so important to have a projector with 16:10 as a native feature? Just trying to understand. Thank you!
"16 :10 is more immersive" seems wrong to me. Assuming the screen is the same height, wouldn't a wider and bigger 16:9 screen be more immersive than a smaller, shorter 16 :10?
You would think, but the 16:10 is taller and most can rarely fit a 16:9 wide enough to be 8’ tall. 16:9 yes can be nice but in order to get a 8’ tall screen (viewable size) you need over 15’ wide. People rarely have more than 15’ wide. 8’ tall or more is the preferred height for immersive feeling from 10’ and most wedges shots hitting the screen etc.
@@GolfSimulatorVideos So, if you have the space, a 16:9 ratio is actually the more immersive experience and the added benefit of being the native resolution of the projector? I ask because my personal space has 40' of width but only 10.5' ceilings and logic tells me that the wider 16:9 would be much more immersive than the shorter 16 :10 but everyone keeps saying 16 :10 is the BEST!! so it has me second guessing what I should get.
@@eigore19 yeah if you have the space and can get at least 8 feet tall still you can run a true 4K. But, the whole point of this project or was to get the ultra high resolution 16:10. it doesn’t mean people are not running other formats. I have a neighbor that did a 4:3 format and it looks awesome. I’m not sure you’re going to notice the difference between 16:9 and 16:10 quality in real life. The 16:10 is that good. But you do whatever works best in your space 💯
It was a sound effect from the software. That course on GSPro has flies buzzing around everywhere. It's a cool effect........the first few times you play the course haha pretty neat though

@@GolfSimulatorVideos no worries, you did reply earlier! Maybe the reply got deleted but I definitely used your advise! And not for only this, also for the projector, deciding on which system, software etc. So big thanks from the Netherlands 🇳🇱!
@@bbanl oh no kidding. Ha! Well glad it worked out!
Will you do a review of the new Titleist RCT ball and test it on Mevo+? Thanks
I do have the balls, but I am seeing some discrepancies as other are. So not sure smart promoting it if they are not going to work as well as dots.
@@GolfSimulatorVideos we don’t bother with the dots because they are a pain to use and eventually fall off anyways.
@@Esoxfan I hear you but they give much better spin numbers for more accurate carry distance. RCT would be worse than no dot based on my testing so far. I think they would have to update firmware for them or something. Also, Mine never fall off. I put them on them really smash them on by rolling it on the counter pressing hard.
I just order this projector 3 weeks ago, Good choice now with your video. Thanks
Yeah I am beyond impressed. They definitely nailed it with this one and it's going to adapt for so many people. Thanks for watching
TY
That’s because 16:10 is more like 12x8. You are closer to 4:3. Check out projector central and use the throw calculator.
TY
What computer spec setup are you running in order to maximize the wqxga 2560x1600 ?
It's overkill a little for my recording etc. but it is a i9 10990 with RTX 3090 and 128GB ram. Thanks for watching!
@@GolfSimulatorVideos do you have a link for your compter so I can buy this same setup?
How is the speaker in it? Do you have to add speakers?
All projector speakers are fair. But in my opinion you are much better off adding some speakers behind the screen if you have room or somewhere else.
=I got the new Epson from you guys, wow is it amazing
Nice. Thanks for watching!
Another great vid Jay - You mention you duplicate your monitor that is a 4k touchscreen - Please can you tell me the model and size of the 4k touchscreen please? Keep up the great content!
It's a LG 27GN950-B
27'' UltraGear 4K UHD Nano IPS 1ms 144Hz G-Sync. I added touchscreen to it.
@@GolfSimulatorVideos Txs for that - please excuse my ignorance but how do you add touchscreen to it?
@@reeledgesa Infared bezel.
@@GolfSimulatorVideos Awesome! Can you recommend a make for the bezel? nest place to purchase
@@reeledgesa it was from China. They are on Amazon.
Anyone gotten their hands on one of these yet? Been waiting on mine for over a month and was expecting in mid November.
My partner has delivered a ton of them to viewers. Keep in mind some did have lead times due to supply constraints but he has been ordering as many as possible for stock ahead of time.
would you stick with BenQ for a budget suggestion as well?
The reason I like BenQ overall is the quality and true lumen ratings etc. Too many brands overstate specs. Thanks for watching!
What’s the difference between this and the 953ST? They are both 16:9 native with the same throw ratio. 936 looks like it has 100 more lumens.
This has a big difference with the ability to run 16:10 in a WQXGA resolution but plus 4:3 and 2.4 as well. I explain this in the video. Appreciate you watching.
I see the weight difference is 7 lbs..953 is heavy..
@@kodisathya8192 yeah it's noticeable for sure.
do you know if the gspro software works with mevo plus? I saw a video of someone using a garmin r10
Right now GSPro does not support Mevo+. R10 is unofficially supported they are using a screen grab technique.
@@GolfSimulatorVideos okay, any word of it possibly being available in the future? thanks
@@blainetsukayama4513 it's a possibility but that is all anyone knows at this time. Flightscope has a copy of the software to test.
emailed GS Pro, and they said they are working with flightscope
@@blainetsukayama4513 yeah that's what I said above. They have the software to test. Just not certain of anything
ypu think it would work with gol zone simulator?
I’m assuming you’re referring to Golfzon? It will depend on your screen size. You can use a calculator online to check
What's the size of your impact screen?
12x8.
@@HalfCab180_ yeah it should work fine like that. I can verify. But that is exactly what BenQ intended it to be used like.
This is my question as well. I am going to have a 15.5' screen with a 10' ceiling so I'd like to maximize that for golf and be able to watch movies in 16:9 without losing that width.
@@genefu 15.5' wide is huge. You probably could just do 16:9 for both since it will be taller.
Thank you!
What video card is required for this projector?
I would recommend a RTX 3070 or 3080.
Is it just me or is there a fly 🪰 buzzing by the microphone? 😂
Sounds super clear on several devices I have tried? Not sure if your joking here or what?
It was a sound effect from the software. That course on GSPro has flies buzzing around everywhere. It's a cool effect........the first few times you play the course haha pretty neat though
@@tmgolf9234 ahhh. Yep lol
6 grand what is this a rich person only channel
It's actually just over $4k. There are plenty others out there and I've even shown a projector I got for $400 on eBay in the channel. This is intended as the "best" no the cheapest. Thanks for watching
get to work kid
