Garden Railway Cab Ride Madurodam Amusement Park: Outstanding Model Trains in 1/25 Scale

- Madurodam is a miniature park and tourist attraction in the Scheveningen district of The Hague in the Netherlands. The amusement park is home to a range of 1/25 scale model replicas of famous Dutch landmarks and historical buildings. The miniature world of Madurodam strives to show a realistic view of the Netherlands in a scaled-down environment. Everything, including model trains, cars on the motorway and aircraft at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, are modelled to scale.
Madurodam’s model railroad is the largest garden railway layout in 1/25 scale in the world, with a length of approximately four kilometers. The garden railroad contains four stations and nine bridges. The track is divided into 33 blocks, so twelve trains can run simultaneously. All trains are handmade from brass and polyester. The rolling stock runs more than 20,000 kilometers per year and regularly goes to the workshop for overhaul.
In 2008, Ben Mathon filmed a cab ride on Madurodam’s model train layout. This movie shows what the miniature railway looks like from the train driver’s point of view. At that time, the camera was mounted on a freight wagon that was pushed by a locomotive along the rails, so that it seems as if the viewer is sitting in the miniature train himself.
13 years later, Markus Lenz of Pilentum Television discovered this movie and received permission from Ben Mathon to edit the video footage and republish the video on RUclips. All footage was shot before opening time to avoid visitors walking around the amusement park. I guess, after watching a few minutes of this video, you will forget that everything you see, for example trains, tunnels, bridges, stations, buildings, ships, etc., is a miniature world built in 1/25 scale.

Fun fact for those who don't know: The railway and trains were built by Dutch Railways (NS) personnel. The overhead wires work like the 1:1 version, with the trains drawing power from the wire instead of most model trains via the rails

This layout is so real I was actually waiting for one of the jet liners to take off. It must be one heck of a hard job to keep all the real plants and bushes and shrubs trimmed to 1/25th scale. Beautiful work. Truly amazing.
WOW O WOW, This is an amazingly work of art, engineering and sound. It's just incredible. From the first part of the train, and then the beautiful town center and cathedral looking so real. It feels as though I am a real tourist, looking out on the sea at ships, and the beautiful city of Amsterdam. The cab rides were wonderful. The very best way of seeing a country is by train. This little movie has every single detail one could think of. I want to thank everyone for making this treasure. Special thanks to Ben Mathon, Markus Lenz, and Pilentum. I love this layout, especially under the natural sunlight and sky just adds so much to the visual aspects. The moving vehicles, the city models, the airport, the ships and other watercraft just blow me away with the accuracy. The filming of this is outstanding, makes me wish I was in this tiny world!
The quality of filming for such a masterpiece is simply a crime!

I visited Madurodam 50 years ago when I was a kid. It was fantastic then, so I can't imagine what it's like today.

Really enjoyed this video. I have fond memories of Madurodam. I think I was 5 yrs old when I first visited. After we emigrated I took my wife there to see it.
After watching the most excellent Cabview Holland Dutch Railways YT Channel videos for several years now, when I saw the thumbnail photo for this video, I was ready to get my coffee and donuts to enjoy another one... although this one was not anticipated at this time of day. So, I just took a 1/25 cup of coffee and 1/25 scaled-down amount of white, sugar-powdered, donuts... and, by gosh! I hardly noticed any difference. Gracias por tu video... ¡excelente! R.T. I've been to Madurodam. It's an astonishingly amazing place. You could spend all day there and still not really see all the amazing detail.

The buildings of historical edifices are really stunning.
As a shiplover I was particularily intrigued by the ferry models of the OLAU BRITANNIA ferry (SSW Seebeck Werft 1982) and the KONINGIN BEATRIX (Van der Giessen de Noord 1986).
This is insane. The only way to tell it wasn’t real was to look for people moving. Its like a world during COVID-19. My mind is blown. Words don’t do it justice. Well done, if’s amazing!

This was well filmed. Other than a few spots in the video you really feel like you are in that world. Objects appeared to scale against the other objects. Very enjoyable!

bravo. what a wonderful video. This video does the Madurodam justice from the editing, sound and pacing. I've never heard of this place before and now I hope I will never forget it! For just a little bit I forgot the woes of the world and felt like a child again.

OMG … this layout is incredible ! I am totally in awe at how detailed it is. My real job is designing oil refineries and to see how freaking realistic the one in the video is mind blowing. It took me awhile to realize this layout is OUTSIDE even …. What happens when it rains and snows or if the is some kind of major storm ?

Wonderful. The buildings are beautiful, and there's so much detail over such a huge area. It reminds me of Bekonscot in the UK which depicts landmark buildings of the local area, but on an even bigger scale (both figuratively and literally as Bekonscot runs Gauge 1).

Honestly the only part that didn’t look real was the train. Amazing work though!
It's a work of art, however, there are gaps between building walls and the ground. The camera is unforgiving and thus, a useful tool to achieve perfecto.

Another near perfect video. The track work is a little shaky in some places. Most amazing are the details and the meticoulus maintenance. I am modelling in the same scale and I am a stickler for detail, but with this I am impressed!

I've been here, it's a real awesome park.
I see the TGV train that runs was missing. It's a very cool looking train, especially when it passes by the back of the windmill lane. You missed that Sir, otherwise a really good video . Great detail.
It was filmed in 2008 so not everything is the same as it is now.
I enjoy your video so well Adam made it and I also recognize the kind of trains use are using in the Netherlands there call intercity I don’t know much about the serial numbers but I watch a lot of videos from the Amsterdam you guys do a beautiful job
