@@KB-ke3fiit also lets you correct it if you make a mistake. You accidentally write the wrong address number or made a number look like another number. Or you write the wrong date or something. It can happen.

Project Veritas which is now OMG Media aka James O'Keeffe has been exposing this for years now. Another thing they just exposed is tens of millions of dollars being given to the Act Blue and Democrat party by stealing people's ID's and giving through their names to get past the laws. So sketchy.
What should have happened is, once denied, he contacted the county elections office and everything that happened while the reporter watched would've been done. In this case though, doing so through the press ensured what should happen did happen *and* ensured viewers know their options and to call their county elections office if there's a problem. Most don't know who to call and that's critical if one is to exercise one's right to vote.
My Son had a warrant for his arrest. We went in to fix the situation and someone didnt even bother to look at the date of birth and social security # on the information they had and just automatically issued my son a warrant because he had the same name. They were looking for a 45 year old man and my son was only 24. People in these positions dont give a damn sometimes. Its not a mistake its called laziness
With poll workers, these are usually regular citizens just trying to help out, which is more than most are doing. Kindness and patience are appreciated.

Couldn’t just be happy about the story without adding additional commentary… this form of disengagement used to be common even across different states… wanna guess who the target was? Hint: they used to make us count jellybeans prior to being “allowed” to vote.
It cannot be fixed! Yes, he got to cast his ballot, but it either just cancelled out the vote the imposter cast or it gave one candidate an extra vote! That is why we need many more security measures in place such as photo ID, paper ballots and perhaps even biometrics when casting a ballot. I personally like the idea of voters sticking there thumb in permanent ink!
Even better, educated the viewers on calling their count elections office if there's a problem. Turned a problem into a win for all of the populace that experience similar issues, because well, we all screw up and that's why we have such systems in place.

It's like the Consumer Bob and The Unknown Eater segments I remember watching on my local cable news (CBS) in the 90s as a kid/teen. When it wasn't about how we're going to hell in a hand basket but a couple of feel-good stories about helping a stinted customer by publicly calling out the business or a local non-big-chain restaurant of the week. I think all of that went away after September 11th, 2001, but mainly because our family decided to not watch basic news anymore and just stuck with the local newspaper and The Daily Show, because we needed some humor to cope with such chaotic times.

This has nothing to do with requiring ID. This has to do with someone mistakenly merging two different people into one. ID would not help this; it's not like the election officials are going to have a copy of your ID on file.

Well, there is a us vs here. Us vs oops. Figuring out who to call to resolve an oops can be daunting for many, as most of us don't have to deal with local or county governments much throughout our entire lives. Judges issue orders directing the appropriate official to permit Mr. Shaw to vote a provisional ballot. Mix up addressed within the time voters may correct their credentials or other information in order for the ballot to count. Or order from court: authority shall provide. Mr. Shaw with a regular ballot and it shall be submitted for tabulation. First is common, second is less so.
the point is: they actually have a paper trail to fix such problems. Which makes Trumps claims about widespread voter fraud total BS. This system might not prevent all voter fraud but it will find voter fraud afterwards.
They can only work with the information they have at hand, alot of people in this country have the same name. Does not put blame on regular people just try to do their job.
It depends on the information they have at that voting location. However, this is why there should be a uniform system throughout the country. I’ve never had an issue with voting (knock on wood). I show my ID and they check my name and address, as well as match my signature against what’s on file. Easy peasy. 🤷♀️

It shouldn't take a news organization raising awareness to restore your vote. Here in my jurisdiction, the polling places are supposed to allow you to vote with a provisional ballot, then tell you to contact the registrar of voters to clear it up. Turning someone away because "oh you already voted" is just asking for rampant abuse.
That's exactly what happened. He was offered a provisional ballot but decided to attempt to fix the error first. That made sense because he still had time. Every step in the process was noted so they could easily determine exactly what had happened, where the mistake was made, and correct the issue.
I guarantee you if he had contacted the elections office directly, they’d have been able to fix this without the involvement of the media (this happens from time-to-time and they know how to deal with it as they did here). Still, I’m glad the media covered it as it is educational for voters.
Even if this occurred on Election Day, he would have been given the chance to vote via a Provisional Vote. He would have supplied the vote and then the elections would have looked into the situation. (And hopefully come up with the same results.) Official election results are not final until every provisional ballot is reviewed.

In fact, I don't remember feeling 'disappointed' about the situation at all in the many years it took to get it (mostly) ironed out, but I very vividly remember the overwhelming stress and frustration. The things that you mention, not knowing where your kids, house, and car are after a Hurricane, are stressful, too, but as it stands now, people are not limited to feeling stress in only a single set of circumstances. So, relax, nobody is trying to monopolize that word, there's plenty of stress in the universe for all of us to get more than we want.

My son is a Jr as well, when he was able to vote in the last election. I called our county and had them add a "SR" to my mailed ballot (we live in Oregon). So there wouldn't be any confusion.
Even money, while untangling it, apologizing the entire way. We all screw up, how one deals with screwing up tells what kind of person that they are. Most just admit to screwing up and scramble to fix it. Others just earn disrespect for denying their blatantly obvious screwup.

The registrar simply replaced this man's existing registration some time ago with a new voter with the same name and a different address. Instead of adding the new voter, they updated an existing record. Stupid error of a registration clerk.
It’s simple human error. I’m sure you’ve made mistakes at your job. With these poll workers, they only do this a few weeks a year and are generally retirees not used to the long busy days that a presidential election requires.

In a presidential election, in a large county, many many seasonal workers would be hired to help process mail-in absentee ballot applications, outgoing ballots, and receiving and counting returned ballots. My wife and I have been registered voters for 58 years. Same location. We sent in applications for absentee ballots. My ballot came with the wrong middle initial, and my wife didn't receive one at all. I contacted the City Clerk's office, and the problem was resolved within 10- minutes. Received ballots the next day, and returned them filled.

Note also: Provisional Ballot also helps in addressing this...rare...situation. I've worked as a Poll Worker 2-3 times now. In thousands of voters, I personally have not seen an example of this situation, though it is clearly possible. I recently was studying in the Poll Workers Handbook related situations and resolutions related to potential problems "checking-in" (qualifying) a voter. I'm impressed with the preparation, experience and thoroughness of the rules as represented in our state's handbook.
Not everyone has ID, unless the government is willing to provide FREE photo ID to every citizen then all it will do is remove the right to vote from people unnecessary. Every study that has looked at voter fraud has shown that it is not an issue. If you want to get mad about something get mad about the rich being able to buy elections rather than your fellow citizen being able to vote.
@@tessmoore3762 No it's mandatory. The law is G.S. § 163‑166.16. You can fill out a form to request a photo ID exemption but otherwise you need to present a photo ID to vote in person or a photo copy of your ID to vote by mail. If you don't have it with you when you vote can only vote by provisional ballot and it only gets counted if you present the ID to your county elections board before the vote count is certified. Obviously the Voter ID law didn't help here, and that's fine. No system is perfect, glad the mistake got caught and fixed.
I just voted today in Madison County, IL. I was very glad to see that all of us were required to present a valid driver license along with our voter registration.

This happened to my friend in Michigan, went in to vote early, was told he had already voted which he did not. Election worker said there's nothing he could do about it, please be on your way. He came back two days later to make a complaint they would not even bother to help him, told him he was fraudulently trying to vote again. And this isn't an isolated incident.
That’s why we have provisional ballots. If a voter’s eligibility to vote cannot be proven at the polls on Election Day, they can cast a provisional ballot. If administrators determine that the voter was eligible to vote, the ballot will be counted as a regular ballot.

I imagine the "other" Conor Brennan did and that is why the information for the "listed" Conor Brian was changed. (And ID is required in North Carolina) The poll workers do not have photo of the listed Conor Brennan to compare likeness.
Not in this case, since both Connor Brennans’ identities were not in dispute. It was not a case of someone impersonating Connor Brennan. Both Connors IDs would have confirmed they were who they claim to be.
Photo ID won't eliminate this problem. What can eliminate it is a national ID (as in federal, or at least a state ID coordinated by all states) that is widely available to all for free as most countries have but since most US citizens don't want such an ID you'll need more complicated measures to solve that kind of a problem, and those already exist, as shown in this report. Understandably this man did what he could to resolve this problem now but the same way they quickly found out the mistake they would have found it out if he field a provisional ballot, which was created for such cases. The same check they did now they would've done with the provisional ballot and his voting would've been counted.
@@AL5520 Real ID _is_ that coordinated effort, which only a few “don’t tell me what to do, Feds!” states have refused to participate in, even though a) the core of Real ID is a set of very sensible minimum requirements for the authenticity of the documentation used to verify the ID information, and b) those same states are the ones pushing for stricter rules for voting. So none of the whining has anything to do with objective reality, it’s all about political posturing. :/

The guy in front of you was no longer on the rolls as a clerk had mistakenly edited his record into the new guy...basically erasing him

I was in the employment security office today filing for unemployment. And they required you to have an ID even to just have questions answered about applying. Yet we don't require an ID to vote?

I once almost got stuck with a 280k hospital bill. I did some detective work of my own found out the guys middle initial was different but he gave my address. Plus our ages were wrong and I hadn't had a recent surgery. I found out where he lived his phone number and sent it to collectors and told em stop harassing me or I get a lawyer involved. A week later I get a call from some dude screaming and threatening me about having to pay his bill. I recorded it told him bring it on I'll introduce him to my friends smith and Wesson. He never bothered me again.
Doesn’t make any difference. The other Conor may have had picture ID, i.e., a driver license. The poll worker has never seen either Conor, so naturally thinks the wrong Conor is the right one. A driver license is all Alabama requires. I don’t know the poll workers, and they don’t know me.

But this one sounds like a rare case because they had a different address too, but the same birthday. So it might've been a person who stole his identity and tried to steal his vote, but the voting system is harder to steal because it came back to him, or somebody has the same name and birthday, or somebody at the DMV messed up.
Meck County Poll worker here. As stated in the piece, it was a human error. There’s a process to fix every type error. Always ask. This voter was on his lunch hour & maybe couldn’t take the time to do so right then, but calling the Board of Elections afterwards to investigate the problem was exactly the right thing to do.

I agree that sounds good, but what if you lose or misplace your ID the day of? In most areas it's hard to get a new one that fast, and certain counties they make it extremely difficult for some pockets of people. This video shows how hard it is to double vote under one person, but it doesn't show how rare it is for people to steal others votes, that it doesn't even make a difference in the outcome, and is almost always caught. these two scenarios are why people are against showing IDs.
I worked as a programmer-analyst for a major hospital. They had acquired a new facility and we needed to merge their patient database with ours. Working on that project is how I learned that having two different people with the same name AND date of birth does happen. We had a contract with a company which did the analysis on how good of a “fit” two records were. They had spent decades refining their algorithms for assigning a score to indicate how closely two records match. For example, did a man register as James in one place but as Jim in the other? Did the numbers in the street address get transposed so that the person lived at 123 Main Street in one récord but was 132 Main St. in the other? Note the ‘Street’ vs ‘St’ change. The algorithm had to have tables of abbreviations used by the USPS. There are a LOT of ways the same person can appear to be two different people and vice versa. You do NOT want to intermingle their medical records incorrectly. I get quite upset at the clowns who think that checking voter lists against those of other states is an easy, straightforward process. It is not and must be left to professionals who understand the nuances of fitness matching.

Not the first time I have heard of that. My friend's son moved from PA to FL, he registered to vote, when he went to vote for the first time in FL they told him that he had already voted. His name is very unique. I don't know anyone outside of his immediate family with that last name.

This wouldn't happen if the registered voter gave his identification and the election worker gave him the ballot that goes with that citizen. That would authenticate that voter with his ballot.

I don't understand the error. NC requires voter i.d. as does my State. It has your address on it. The poll worker should have checked that. They always ask " are you still at this...address?" Sounds to me that the poll worker changed the address. Better check out that poll worker. I think it's wise to also have your voter card even though only the i.d. is required because it also has your voter number on it that can be matched with the other information.
They probably only glance at the date of birth. Most poll workers are elderly around me. They messed up but it got figured out in the end. To be honest, having two guys with the same name, I'm shocked that the Republicans didn't get both thrown off the rolls to begin with...but then he is white, so...
This is NOT error. I is purely stupidity on the part of the person who let this happen. 35 years ago I had a problem with my electricity bill in LA. It was over $200 in an apartment. Turns out someone called the electric company and changed my BIRTHDATE and re-opened another account 35 miles away. The old account was still open. So they were charging me on two accounts. How can anyone change a birthdate by PHONE? On top, how can you open an new account while maintaining the old account without changing all your personal data? This was UNBELIEVABLE!

I had a very similar situation. A voter with the same First and Last name but a different middle initial signed the voter book by my name and not his. A turn of the page on the book revealed the error and after a brief delay I was allowed to vote. Such errors are not a sign of widescale voter fraud nor would be enough to overturn the results.
They said date of birth is different. How can they miss the date of birth. How do they verify the Ids? The primary check is name and date of birth. Then address

I'm so happy that the County Elections Office was able to correct the mistake. Great to hear that the error was corrected.
What should have happened is, once denied, he contacted the county elections office and everything that happened while the reporter watched would've been done.
In this case though, doing so through the press ensured what should happen did happen *and* ensured viewers know their options and to call their county elections office if there's a problem. Most don't know who to call and that's critical if one is to exercise one's right to vote.

We went in to fix the situation and someone didnt even bother to look at the date of birth and social security # on the information they had and just automatically issued my son a warrant because he had the same name. They were looking for a 45 year old man and my son was only 24.

Couldn’t just be happy about the story without adding additional commentary… this form of disengagement used to be common even across different states… wanna guess who the target was? Hint: they used to make us count jellybeans prior to being “allowed” to vote.
Worked elections for years that's generally the way it used to be.
It cannot be fixed! Yes, he got to cast his ballot, but it either just cancelled out the vote the imposter cast or it gave one candidate an extra vote! That is why we need many more security measures in place such as photo ID, paper ballots and perhaps even biometrics when casting a ballot. I personally like the idea of voters sticking there thumb in permanent ink!

Voting under another's name is a felony (like Trump has). It's exceptionally rare and quickly addressed.

It's like the Consumer Bob and The Unknown Eater segments I remember watching on my local cable news (CBS) in the 90s as a kid/teen. When it wasn't about how we're going to hell in a hand basket but a couple of feel-good stories about helping a stinted customer by publicly calling out the business or a local non-big-chain restaurant of the week.
I think all of that went away after September 11th, 2001, but mainly because our family decided to not watch basic news anymore and just stuck with the local newspaper and The Daily Show, because we needed some humor to cope with such chaotic times.

This has nothing to do with requiring ID. This has to do with someone mistakenly merging two different people into one. ID would not help this; it's not like the election officials are going to have a copy of your ID on file.

Judges issue orders directing the appropriate official to permit Mr. Shaw to vote a provisional ballot. Mix up addressed within the time voters may correct their credentials or other information in order for the ballot to count. Or order from court: authority shall provide. Mr. Shaw with a regular ballot and it shall be submitted for tabulation. First is common, second is less so.

It depends on the information they have at that voting location.
However, this is why there should be a uniform system throughout the country. I’ve never had an issue with voting (knock on wood). I show my ID and they check my name and address, as well as match my signature against what’s on file. Easy peasy. 🤷♀️

It shouldn't take a news organization raising awareness to restore your vote. Here in my jurisdiction, the polling places are supposed to allow you to vote with a provisional ballot, then tell you to contact the registrar of voters to clear it up. Turning someone away because "oh you already voted" is just asking for rampant abuse.
That's exactly what happened. He was offered a provisional ballot but decided to attempt to fix the error first. That made sense because he still had time. Every step in the process was noted so they could easily determine exactly what had happened, where the mistake was made, and correct the issue.
I guarantee you if he had contacted the elections office directly, they’d have been able to fix this without the involvement of the media (this happens from time-to-time and they know how to deal with it as they did here). Still, I’m glad the media covered it as it is educational for voters.
Well it’s lucky he voted early or this nigh not have been fixed in time.
Even if this occurred on Election Day, he would have been given the chance to vote via a Provisional Vote. He would have supplied the vote and then the elections would have looked into the situation. (And hopefully come up with the same results.) Official election results are not final until every provisional ballot is reviewed.
They usually get a provisional ballot.
He would still have been able to cast a provisional ballot, and the problem would have been resolved the next day.

In fact, I don't remember feeling 'disappointed' about the situation at all in the many years it took to get it (mostly) ironed out, but I very vividly remember the overwhelming stress and frustration.
The things that you mention, not knowing where your kids, house, and car are after a Hurricane, are stressful, too, but as it stands now, people are not limited to feeling stress in only a single set of circumstances. So, relax, nobody is trying to monopolize that word, there's plenty of stress in the universe for all of us to get more than we want.

My son is a Jr as well, when he was able to vote in the last election. I called our county and had them add a "SR" to my mailed ballot (we live in Oregon). So there wouldn't be any confusion.

The registrar simply replaced this man's existing registration some time ago with a new voter with the same name and a different address.
Instead of adding the new voter, they updated an existing record. Stupid error of a registration clerk.
It’s simple human error. I’m sure you’ve made mistakes at your job. With these poll workers, they only do this a few weeks a year and are generally retirees not used to the long busy days that a presidential election requires.

My wife and I have been registered voters for 58 years. Same location. We sent in applications for absentee ballots. My ballot came with the wrong middle initial, and my wife didn't receive one at all. I contacted the City Clerk's office, and the problem was resolved within 10- minutes. Received ballots the next day, and returned them filled.

Note also: Provisional Ballot also helps in addressing this...rare...situation. I've worked as a Poll Worker 2-3 times now. In thousands of voters, I personally have not seen an example of this situation, though it is clearly possible. I recently was studying in the Poll Workers Handbook related situations and resolutions related to potential problems "checking-in" (qualifying) a voter. I'm impressed with the preparation, experience and thoroughness of the rules as represented in our state's handbook.

Not everyone has ID, unless the government is willing to provide FREE photo ID to every citizen then all it will do is remove the right to vote from people unnecessary. You can fill out a form to request a photo ID exemption but otherwise you need to present a photo ID to vote in person or a photo copy of your ID to vote by mail. If you don't have it with you when you vote can only vote by provisional ballot and it only gets counted if you present the ID to your county elections board before the vote count is certified. Obviously the Voter ID law didn't help here, and that's fine. No system is perfect, glad the mistake got caught and fixed.

I just voted today in Madison County, IL. I was very glad to see that all of us were required to present a valid driver license along with our voter registration.

This happened to my friend in Michigan, went in to vote early, was told he had already voted which he did not. Election worker said there's nothing he could do about it, please be on your way. He came back two days later to make a complaint they would not even bother to help him, told him he was fraudulently trying to vote again. And this isn't an isolated incident.
If this guy didn't push the issue. Just imagine this happening on November 5th? No time to fix. It's important to get out and vote early.
That’s why we have provisional ballots. If a voter’s eligibility to vote cannot be proven at the polls on Election Day, they can cast a provisional ballot. If administrators determine that the voter was eligible to vote, the ballot will be counted as a regular ballot.

Not in this case, since both Connor Brennans’ identities were not in dispute. It was not a case of someone impersonating Connor Brennan. Both Connors IDs would have confirmed they were who they claim to be.
Photo ID won't eliminate this problem. What can eliminate it is a national ID (as in federal, or at least a state ID coordinated by all states) that is widely available to all for free as most countries have but since most US citizens don't want such an ID you'll need more complicated measures to solve that kind of a problem, and those already exist, as shown in this report. Understandably this man did what he could to resolve this problem now but the same way they quickly found out the mistake they would have found it out if he field a provisional ballot, which was created for such cases. The same check they did now they would've done with the provisional ballot and his voting would've been counted.
@@AL5520 Real ID _is_ that coordinated effort, which only a few “don’t tell me what to do, Feds!” states have refused to participate in, even though a) the core of Real ID is a set of very sensible minimum requirements for the authenticity of the documentation used to verify the ID information, and b) those same states are the ones pushing for stricter rules for voting. I once almost got stuck with a 280k hospital bill. I did some detective work of my own found out the guys middle initial was different but he gave my address. Plus our ages were wrong and I hadn't had a recent surgery. I found out where he lived his phone number and sent it to collectors and told em stop harassing me or I get a lawyer involved. A week later I get a call from some dude screaming and threatening me about having to pay his bill. I recorded it told him bring it on I'll introduce him to my friends smith and Wesson. He never bothered me again.

But this one sounds like a rare case because they had a different address too, but the same birthday. Meck County Poll worker here. As stated in the piece, it was a human error. There’s a process to fix every type error. Always ask. This voter was on his lunch hour & maybe couldn’t take the time to do so right then, but calling the Board of Elections afterwards to investigate the problem was exactly the right thing to do.

VOTER ID Checking name, DOB , Address , Picture and Signature! What a novel IDEA!!!!
I agree that sounds good, but what if you lose or misplace your ID the day of? In most areas it's hard to get a new one that fast, and certain counties they make it extremely difficult for some pockets of people. This video shows how hard it is to double vote under one person, but it doesn't show how rare it is for people to steal others votes, that it doesn't even make a difference in the outcome, and is almost always caught. these two scenarios are why people are against showing IDs.

I worked as a programmer-analyst for a major hospital. They had acquired a new facility and we needed to merge their patient database with ours.
Working on that project is how I learned that having two different people with the same name AND date of birth does happen.
We had a contract with a company which did the analysis on how good of a “fit” two records were. They had spent decades refining their algorithms for assigning a score to indicate how closely two records match. For example, did a man register as James in one place but as Jim in the other? Did the numbers in the street address get transposed so that the person lived at 123 Main Street in one récord but was 132 Main St. in the other? Note the ‘Street’ vs ‘St’ change. The algorithm had to have tables of abbreviations used by the USPS.
There are a LOT of ways the same person can appear to be two different people and vice versa. You do NOT want to intermingle their medical records incorrectly.
I get quite upset at the clowns who think that checking voter lists against those of other states is an easy, straightforward process. It is not and must be left to professionals who understand the nuances of fitness matching.

The clerk that noted the first voter as having voted ticked off the wrong entry because of the names. It was a simple human error as far as anyone can tell, and there's no reason to assume otherwise.
Had to show my ID 3X before I could vote.

Not the first time I have heard of that. My friend's son moved from PA to FL, he registered to vote, when he went to vote for the first time in FL they told him that he had already voted. His name is very unique. I don't know anyone outside of his immediate family with that last name.

This is usually what the problem. The clerk needs to verify all information matches. The overly dramatic dude could have figured it out if he called his Registrar of Voters.

They did check ID, that's how they got the new address. The election worker just didn't notice the date of birth.

This wouldn't happen if the registered voter gave his identification and the election worker gave him the ballot that goes with that citizen. That would authenticate that voter with his ballot.
North Carolina DOES have Voter ID requirements.

I don't understand the error. NC requires voter i.d. as does my State. It has your address on it. The poll worker should have checked that. They always ask " are you still at this...address?" Sounds to me that the poll worker changed the address. Better check out that poll worker. I think it's wise to also have your voter card even though only the i.d. is required because it also has your voter number on it that can be matched with the other information.
They probably only glance at the date of birth. Most poll workers are elderly around me. They messed up but it got figured out in the end.
To be honest, having two guys with the same name, I'm shocked that the Republicans didn't get both thrown off the rolls to begin with...but then he is white, so...

This is NOT error. I is purely stupidity on the part of the person who let this happen. 35 years ago I had a problem with my electricity bill in LA. It was over $200 in an apartment. Turns out someone called the electric company and changed my BIRTHDATE and re-opened another account 35 miles away. The old account was still open. So they were charging me on two accounts. How can anyone change a birthdate by PHONE? On top, how can you open an new account while maintaining the old account without changing all your personal data? This was UNBELIEVABLE!
There will be well over 150 million votes cast. It would be beyond miraculous for not even one human error to be made while processing them all.

I had a very similar situation. A voter with the same First and Last name but a different middle initial signed the voter book by my name and not his. A turn of the page on the book revealed the error and after a brief delay I was allowed to vote. Such errors are not a sign of widescale voter fraud nor would be enough to overturn the results.
They said date of birth is different. How can they miss the date of birth. How do they verify the Ids? The primary check is name and date of birth. Then address
