We went in to fix the situation and someone didnt even bother to look at the date of birth and social security # on the information they had and just automatically issued my son a warrant because he had the same name. Somehow, had fair elections for over 200 years before Republicans came up with Voter ID to suppress the vote. Yes, those picture IDs are deliberately expensive and difficult to obtain, if you’re poor or old. Republicans think only Democrats are poor or don’t have transportation to their off site locations that are the only places to get the IDs.
Even if this occurred on Election Day, he would have been given the chance to vote via a Provisional Vote. He would have supplied the vote and then the elections would have looked into the situation. (And hopefully come up with the same results.) Official election results are not final until every provisional ballot is reviewed.
That’s why we have provisional ballots. If a voter’s eligibility to vote cannot be proven at the polls on Election Day, they can cast a provisional ballot. If administrators determine that the voter was eligible to vote, the ballot will be counted as a regular ballot.

I agree that sounds good, but what if you lose or misplace your ID the day of? In most areas it's hard to get a new one that fast, and certain counties they make it extremely difficult for some pockets of people. This video shows how hard it is to double vote under one person, but it doesn't show how rare it is for people to steal others votes, that it doesn't even make a difference in the outcome, and is almost always caught. these two scenarios are why people are against showing IDs.

Note also: Provisional Ballot also helps in addressing this...rare...situation. I've worked as a Poll Worker 2-3 times now. In thousands of voters, I personally have not seen an example of this situation, though it is clearly possible. I recently was studying in the Poll Workers Handbook related situations and resolutions related to potential problems "checking-in" (qualifying) a voter. I'm impressed with the preparation, experience and thoroughness of the rules as represented in our state's handbook.

I had a teacher who had a similar issue with with his bank account when someone in another state had his name. This kind of thing happens all the time. Glad they were able to sort it out, though I wish the election workers had been able to instruct the person in this story on next steps.

This is NOT error. I is purely stupidity on the part of the person who let this happen. 35 years ago I had a problem with my electricity bill in LA. It was over $200 in an apartment. Turns out someone called the electric company and changed my BIRTHDATE and re-opened another account 35 miles away. The old account was still open. So they were charging me on two accounts. How can anyone change a birthdate by PHONE? On top, how can you open an new account while maintaining the old account without changing all your personal data? This was UNBELIEVABLE!

How about we use voter ID that would fix the problem. When I lived in NC, they were ballot harvesting in my Apartment complex. The man who had lived in my apartment before me died but seemed to continue to vote. If they don't take the dead people off the voting rolls, they can continue to vote. The state had passed a voter ID law but somehow made a loophole in the law so when I went to vote in 2019 the person working the polls refused to accept my ID. They just took my word for who I was and where I lived. In the state I live now there are strict voter ID laws, and you actually have to show your ID which they scan into the computer system to verify you are legal to vote. This also can be scammed if illegals are given drivers licenses and not designated that they are not a US citizen with NO legal rights to vote.

This happened to my sister and I. Right in front of me. It was my fault because I didn't catch it until she handed me my slip and then I read it. Realizing she marked my sister instead of me. We share the same last name and mailing address. Her name is right below mine on the paper list. Had to call my sister to come in and grab hers so we could straighten this out. And I could vote. Specially when we vote for two different parties. Human error is really. Not a conspiracy to steal yourvote.
This wouldn't happen if the registered voter gave his identification and the election worker gave him the ballot that goes with that citizen. That would authenticate that voter with his ballot.
I don't understand the error. NC requires voter i.d. as does my State. It has your address on it. The poll worker should have checked that. They always ask " are you still at this...address?" Sounds to me that the poll worker changed the address. Better check out that poll worker. I think it's wise to also have your voter card even though only the i.d. is required because it also has your voter number on it that can be matched with the other information.
They probably only glance at the date of birth. Most poll workers are elderly around me. They messed up but it got figured out in the end. I worked as a programmer-analyst for a major hospital. They had acquired a new facility and we needed to merge their patient database with ours. Working on that project is how I learned that having two different people with the same name AND date of birth does happen. We had a contract with a company which did the analysis on how good of a “fit” two records were. They had spent decades refining their algorithms for assigning a score to indicate how closely two records match. For example, did a man register as James in one place but as Jim in the other? Did the numbers in the street address get transposed so that the person lived at 123 Main Street in one récord but was 132 Main St. in the other? Note the ‘Street’ vs ‘St’ change. The algorithm had to have tables of abbreviations used by the USPS. There are a LOT of ways the same person can appear to be two different people and vice versa. You do NOT want to intermingle their medical records incorrectly. I get quite upset at the clowns who think that checking voter lists against those of other states is an easy, straightforward process. It is not and must be left to professionals who understand the nuances of fitness matching.

For all the people who think a picture ID would solve this, it wouldn't. The other Conor Brennan would have shown a picture ID with the wrong address. It would have looked like him, and the same mistake would have been made. This is not a case of identity theft or voter fraud. This is a case of someone confusing two people with the same name.
If this happened as a mistake, just imagine what goes on in states that don't require them. The misconception is that people don't have IDs. It is the Drivers License that many people do not have. You have to have ID to sign up for government benefits. Let that sink in.

I agree that sounds good, but what if you lose or misplace your ID the day of? In most areas it's hard to get a new one that fast, and certain counties they make it extremely difficult for some pockets of people. This video shows how hard it is to double vote under one person, but it doesn't show how rare it is for people to steal others votes, that it doesn't even make a difference in the outcome, and is almost always caught. these two scenarios are why people are against showing IDs.

Note also: Provisional Ballot also helps in addressing this...rare...situation. I've worked as a Poll Worker 2-3 times now. In thousands of voters, I personally have not seen an example of this situation, though it is clearly possible. I recently was studying in the Poll Workers Handbook related situations and resolutions related to potential problems "checking-in" (qualifying) a voter. I'm impressed with the preparation, experience and thoroughness of the rules as represented in our state's handbook.

But this one sounds like a rare case because they had a different address too, but the same birthday. So it might've been a person who stole his identity and tried to steal his vote, but the voting system is harder to steal because it came back to him, or somebody has the same name and birthday, or somebody at the DMV messed up.

The clerk that noted the first voter as having voted ticked off the wrong entry because of the names. It was a simple human error as far as anyone can tell, and there's no reason to assume otherwise.

I had a teacher who had a similar issue with with his bank account when someone in another state had his name. This kind of thing happens all the time. Glad they were able to sort it out, though I wish the election workers had been able to instruct the person in this story on next steps.

My son in lived in the Denver, CO., metro area. I know bc, I went to deposit money into my son's account at my local WF in my southwest CO town, teller says, she had two with same name: first, middle & last w/same spelling, born in the same year, got DOB, to confirm correct account, the other young man, lived in a smaller town in the eastern part of state...it happens😮

This is NOT error. I is purely stupidity on the part of the person who let this happen. 35 years ago I had a problem with my electricity bill in LA. It was over $200 in an apartment. Turns out someone called the electric company and changed my BIRTHDATE and re-opened another account 35 miles away. The old account was still open. So they were charging me on two accounts. How can anyone change a birthdate by PHONE? On top, how can you open an new account while maintaining the old account without changing all your personal data? This was UNBELIEVABLE!
There will be well over 150 million votes cast. It would be beyond miraculous for not even one human error to be made while processing them all.

How about we use voter ID that would fix the problem.
When I lived in NC, they were ballot harvesting in my Apartment complex. The man who had lived in my apartment before me died but seemed to continue to vote. If they don't take the dead people off the voting rolls, they can continue to vote. The state had passed a voter ID law but somehow made a loophole in the law so when I went to vote in 2019 the person working the polls refused to accept my ID. They just took my word for who I was and where I lived. In the state I live now there are strict voter ID laws, and you actually have to show your ID which they scan into the computer system to verify you are legal to vote. This also can be scammed if illegals are given drivers licenses and not designated that they are not a US citizen with NO legal rights to vote.

This happened to my sister and I. Right in front of me. It was my fault because I didn't catch it until she handed me my slip and then I read it. Realizing she marked my sister instead of me. We share the same last name and mailing address. Her name is right below mine on the paper list. Had to call my sister to come in and grab hers so we could straighten this out. And I could vote. Specially when we vote for two different parties.

This wouldn't happen if the registered voter gave his identification and the election worker gave him the ballot that goes with that citizen. That would authenticate that voter with his ballot.
North Carolina DOES have Voter ID requirements.
I don't understand the error. NC requires voter i.d. as does my State. It has your address on it. The poll worker should have checked that. They always ask " are you still at this...address?" Sounds to me that the poll worker changed the address. Better check out that poll worker. I think it's wise to also have your voter card even though only the i.d. is required because it also has your voter number on it that can be matched with the other information.
They probably only glance at the date of birth. Most poll workers are elderly around me. They messed up but it got figured out in the end.
To be honest, having two guys with the same name, I'm shocked that the Republicans didn't get both thrown off the rolls to begin with...but then he is white, so...

I worked as a programmer-analyst for a major hospital. They had acquired a new facility and we needed to merge their patient database with ours.
Working on that project is how I learned that having two different people with the same name AND date of birth does happen.
We had a contract with a company which did the analysis on how good of a “fit” two records were. They had spent decades refining their algorithms for assigning a score to indicate how closely two records match. For example, did a man register as James in one place but as Jim in the other? Did the numbers in the street address get transposed so that the person lived at 123 Main Street in one récord but was 132 Main St. in the other? Note the ‘Street’ vs ‘St’ change. The algorithm had to have tables of abbreviations used by the USPS.
There are a LOT of ways the same person can appear to be two different people and vice versa. You do NOT want to intermingle their medical records incorrectly.
I get quite upset at the clowns who think that checking voter lists against those of other states is an easy, straightforward process. It is not and must be left to professionals who understand the nuances of fitness matching.

For all the people who think a picture ID would solve this, it wouldn't. The other Conor Brennan would have shown a picture ID with the wrong address. It would have looked like him, and the same mistake would have been made. This is not a case of identity theft or voter fraud. This is a case of someone confusing two people with the same name.
If this happened as a mistake, just imagine what goes on in states that don't require them. The misconception is that people don't have IDs. It is the Drivers License that many people do not have. You have to have ID to sign up for government benefits. Let that sink in.
The problem was an error that was detected by the system. These errors, intentional or accidental, are detected.

This happened to someone else. He was a Jr and the person who voted was SR. Errors do happen and they are scary for the reason this gentleman was alarmed - ID theft. Some people don't care enough about voter registration to take the care they should when processing either changes or additions to voter rolls. Mistakes happen. I'm glad that this reporting isn't blowing it out of proportion and informing viewers how to handle such issues. A much needed public service to protect ones right to vote.
