Question about your camera gear, how did you get it to Canada? I am sending some equipment by transport, up to 3 months to get to the west coast of the US. Richard, Simon d' Entemont is a resident Wildlife photographer in Eastern Canada. Not sure what part of Canada you are moving to? Thanks for your review of the 200-400. I am researching this lens and the new 100-300 2.8 and am leaning toward the 200-400 for both price and image quality, however, the reviews of this lens have been very few and far between. Keep up the great work in Canada.

      Hi Mark, I follow Simon and really enjoy his content on his channel! He's doing really well, good on him! My pleasure, I've got lots more testing to go with it but so far I love it, I thought that too, not much on RUclips or blogs on it! It's a great lens and such a great focal length, plus the optics are awesome. Thanks again Rich 👍

      @RichardBirchett oh I'm sure I'm getting the tragopan. Just things have been pretty rough lately. Just trying to survive from paycheck to paycheck. But ya one of these days I will be ordering that v6 I think it is. Living right above the river and all the fields around me this year are all soybean. Which means photo opportunities of some big whitetail bucks chasing does. Maybe by fall I can get that blind. I wish you all the best and I'm sure you're going to have many amazing opportunities. Cheers 🍻

    What do you think about shooting video with that lens? Do you have an EF-RF drop-in adapter with varaible ND in it? Or do you use an ND filter at all for video? I'm also thinking of buying that lens, but I'm wondering how that adapter will hold up to the weight of the lens. I myself use a drop in variable nd filter with a DO 400 mm II, but this lens is a bit smaller and lighter.

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett 9 месяцев назад

      Hi Petril, I'm so impressed shooting video with this lens, both at F4 and at f5.6 with the 1.4x engaged and at f8 it's superb and the optical quality is amazing! I haven't used an ND filter in the adapters. However I do occasionally use the Drop-In Polarising filter when the situation dictates. Canon PL-C52. I'd imagine it would be absolutely fine and I wouldn't be to concerned about the weight of it.The Canon R Mount Adapter with Variable ND Filter Drop-In is designed for that purpose, I haven't seen any issues with people using it online. Hope that helps, thanks for watching. Cheers Rich

    Hi Richard. What are your thoughts now after using the 200-400 for a few months? Do you recommend it or is the 100-500 a better buy? I can get a second hand 200-400 but have been hesitant. Cheers

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett 8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks very much for watching. To be honest I love them both but for different reasons. The 1-5 is my Go-To lens for the majority of my work, great AF, optics and IS plus at f7.1 you really do get some great sharp shots with that improved DOF. Saying that the 2-4 has an awesome zoom range, the added 1.4 Ext is a dream to use when that extra reach is needed. Combined with the superb optics and faster AF and better in low light it's hard to beat! If you have the option for both that would be great, but the 1-5 is probably more usable and cheaper. Unless you get the 2-4 at a bargin price. Best of luck whatever you decide, let me know how you get on. Cheers Rich 👍

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett Год назад

      Hi Neil, to be honest I love the R7, it has limitations but as a birding camera with the added crop factor it's hard to beat, and for the price it's such a bonus. People say about the buffer etc but I've found it to be superb and shooting with CRAW you can gain added images without any noticeable loss in image quality. Cheers Rich
