- Most chains being sold come with a standard lobster clasp. Now there's different designs and variants but the mechanics and how they work are relatively the same. Which brings a big issue on them breaking or failing to keep the chain or bracelet secure. In this video I wanted to do a review on the clasp itself and my tips to keep it working and doing it's job. I personally prefer the lobster clasp on my of my jewelry.

I’ve had a lobster clasp on my chain that was handed down to me from my great grandfather and I wear it everyday and have so for over 15 years and it still has yet to fail on me 👌👌👌

Since I started metal detecting I always carry a magnet to give my gold findings a quick test, I noticed only the clasp would stick to the magnet and only the clasp. Thanks for the info. It finally makes sense.

My rope jacoje chain clasp broke after a month still a beautiful chain but clasp does come loose so I always check to make sure my chain is on my neck

You mentioned in the video that the spring inside a gold lobster clasp is not made from gold since it's too soft.
1) What type of wire is the spring made from typically in gold clasps? stainless, plated steel, nickel or other.. please specify?
2) Does the steel type matter (compatibility wise) if its a 10K or a 14K or a 18K gold lobster clasp?
3) What gauge wire usually are these springs made from?

I simplified my 5mm rope by removing the lobster clasp, checking weak spots, cutting the ends, and soldering them together. Still fits around my head with an inch clearance.
The problem for me has always been the super tiny clasps on the super thin chains, manipulating those little levers hurts. Moral of the story, buy bigger chains. 🧐

Hey I thank you for the information I just magnet tested one of my chains and thought the clasp was fake but it's just a spring on the inside lol
The gap opened up and my chain dropped to the floor i picked it up and used pliers to tighten it now my spring came out and it wont work at all ugh

I have an 8mm figaro. And i just hate how the chain kips flipping on my neck. And i dont get a straight look of the chain on the curve. How can i fix it or what type of clasp can i change it to, to stop that. I imagine it would to be rotating capable.

I got a brand new gold chain from italy and the spring popped out just like this. I took it to a jewelry who tried to charge me 100 bucks telling me I need a new clasp. I asked if she could just pop this back in because I want the original clasp and she said it was broken, is this true?????

I've never had a problem with my lobster clasps as I don't take my everyday chains off so often.
Easy fix if that little hook 🪝 dislocated just pop it back it place like he said its like shoulder socket.. and press the lobster clasp body slight pressure so the hook 🪝 piece doesnt dislocate

I am fine with the lobster clasp as long as it is sturdy. If it does break tho, it's easier to fix then the box lock I would guess.

A place wants 125 to replace my clasp. With keeping the old broken one. Seems like a rip off. I'll buy it myself, then bring it to a different store and have them melt the jump ring. And then i still have a small piece of scrap gold to add to my scrap and sell eventually.

IMO if it has a lobster clasp your jump ring should be soldered closed. I just recently bought a 22" 9mm miami cuban and even that had an open jump ring. I took it and had it soldered closed for the peace of mind. I have heard though that the benefit would be if it did get snagged on something and pulled the open jump ring would just break or deform instead of your clasp or chain breaking... but 🤷♂️
