I have a cousin who's family is pretty religious but I remember watching a TV show with her where a character was transgender and she didn't really care, she's around 18 now and, yes her parents still control most of her life but she manages to get by since they aren't exactly skilled when it comes to technology. She herself is religious but I found it really cool that she didn't stop watching the show or say anything bad about the transgender character. I think the newer generation is a lot more accepting compared to the older people, we're still miles away from full on acceptance but, it's progress, I guess.
I was a civilian working for a contractor on an overseas U.S. base when DADT went into effect. Some of the ones in my office were discussing it when a group of Army guys came in, so they asked the Army guys' opinion. They all said they couldn't care less if someone in their unit was gay, they only cared that everyone did their job. One of my coworkers kept saying "but,...." "but...." And the soldiers just cut him off and said it didn't matter. They said they knew soldiers in the unit were gay and it wasn't an issue. One time, several of the soldiers played wingmen when one of their buddies was interested in one of our guys. It was pretty funny because all parties were drinking and tipsy. They were trying to be discrete, but the guy he was hitting on was oblivious, so the wingmen just flat out told him their buddy was interested.

This whole "our kids won't understand" bs doesn't apply if kids aren't taught that it is unnatural, which it isn't btw, if I needed to reiterate. In fact, this whole idea of "If my child sees this they'll turn gay" only technically happens when the child themself is gay, which if they are left uneducated about (which is what homophobic parents intend to do), it will lead to identity issues. Real, loving parents wouldn't want that to happen to their child, they would want their child to be as mentally healthy as possible.
