Bert was with Tom when he broke his arm and his patella, helped make him comfortable at home (instead of his wife), arranged transportation with him to the hospital, rode with him and stayed with him for hours until in the waiting room until he was admitted. That's a fucking friend. I wish I had a friend like that.
Seen this a few times and still laugh out loud when he says they asked how much pain are you in and he says “ALL OF IT”. such a unique way to answer the question yet still makes sense in a funny way.
He was just trying to get high. I used to say the same thing when in the hospital because hydromorphone feels so good. Tom said the same thing about it
Brian Stutterer, a sports doctor who made a RUclips video breaking down the injury, said that Bert actually did the right thing when he set his arm because what happens when you break your bone like that, it can cut off blood circulation to parts of your body which leads to tissue death, or necrosis, so setting the arm in normal place actually allows the blood to flow again. So when he asks “should Bert have set the arm after it’s broken” the answer is yes, he should have done that. And Bert acted on instinct, but he could have saved Tom from tissue death in his arm.
I like hearing him talk about the nerve damage risk from moving his arm, but not the risks he put himself through by leaving the hospital to go sleep on his damn couch lol
Ehh, it isn't that simple at all, if he had a compound fracture and there were bone shards floating around, moving the arm could cause the severing of major veins or arteries in the area, or sever nerves/nerve damage as well. Bone shards can be like mini razor blades inside your body, you want to move the area as little as possible until you have an xray or ct scan.
@@rdizzy1 you also want to avoid necrosis which can be argued is quite a bit better than some minor cuts that wouldn't amount to anything more than bruising.
@@rdizzy1 it wasn’t a compound fracture dude, a compound is when the bone breaks the surface of the skin literally sticking out. I’ve broken my right arm (humerus) twice, both times snapping it straight in half and there were minimal and minuscule bone shards....bones break pretty cleanly unless they’re struck with a bullet or they’re getting crunched in a severe car accident or something
One doctor that I had seen said that Bert moving his arm may've actually been overall beneficial in reducing strain or tension or damage along the rest of the injury from being bent how it was. Bert is a bad, good friend.

@@generallobster One thing you seem to not know is that Tom waited for the very reason you said he should. Right after you said he shouldn't. Good stuff bro.
I tore my patella tendon playing Rugby but in the same incident I also got a head high tackle and got a broken nose. So I was patched up in the sheds and got a new jersey on to run back out onto the field when I noticed that my knee had swollen up and I was having trouble bending it. The eventual surgery drained a litre of fluid from my knee and I required 30 stiches along the inside of my patella tendon. So yeah Joe is right in saying you don't have pain from the initial tear but the swelling and pressure on the join afterwards is excruciating.
I've seen that before, didn't feel a thing until I slept a few hrs & woke up with pain & swelling, I was aware of the injury but the next day brought those symptoms.
Now imagine Tom wakes up after going home with a broken body, and sees a bag of chips and bottle of calcium supplement ("helps build strong bones"), because that's exactly what Bert got for him, according to Tom.
Tom: I have nerve damage, no.. bruising, a month ago I could not pull up my wrist, I cannot use my extensors, like my hand doesn't open. Joe: Can you do a chin up?
Did something similar to my humerus too when I fell down my stairs at home and bent my arm backwards behind my back. There wasn't a break, just a fracture at the top but, I have the same nerve bruising/damage; the pain and weakness of the arm he described is spot on. I would not wish it upon anyone.

Similar to my experience with my ACL, no initial pain. 20 minutes later was a completely different story.
I've seen that before, didn't feel a thing until I slept a few hrs & woke up with pain & swelling, I was aware of the injury but the next day brought those symptoms.
My mouth started watering as soon as my acl snapped. It hurt like a mother.

Did something similar to my humerus too when I fell down my stairs at home and bent my arm backwards behind my back.
