LEEZ and Ollounder, who write most of Dreamcatcher's songs, are among the top pop composers working today. When you couple them with Dreamcatcher then you get magic. Dreamcatcher always tell stories and this story is a horror story based on the movie Us which is about people in a small American town being replaced by dopplegangers. It's theme is the destructiveness of possessive love. Yeah, they aren't your normal happy happy Kpop girl group.
Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip your spine out when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 They are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done. About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.
If you can believe it, BEcause is one of their lighter, more pop-sounding songs! It's a summer release so they went for a "fresher" sound, but still mixed in their signature horror themes and brilliant song composition. Truly nobody is doing what Dreamcatcher is doing, and they're very known for their dark concept and rock/metal influences, but also their powerful choreography and insane vocal talent. Their producers, Leez and Ollounder, are incredible and they pull inspiration from a lot of genres! And while their title tracks are very rock-based, their b-sides cover a huge range from EDM to jazz to a Michael Jackson tribute. It's definitely worth checking out more of their stuff. Based on what I've seen other musicians and producers react to, I'd especially recommend Piri, Odd Eye, and their Japanese release Endless Night. Endless Night's drum parts were done by the drummer of the Japanese band Coldrain.
Eh, maybe slightly lighter, but nothing about it is pop sounding, it's really creative and original, pushing the envelope with creativity I would argue. That's why I like dream catcher, they don't fit into any box, they make their own genre. In American rock, we have a genre for this, progressive rock. Bands like pink Floyd and rush, who did their own thing and don't sound like anyone else out there.
A good song is a good song. Not every song is meant to be listen at gym. And gym isn't the only time people listen to songs so... Actually this kind of songs are reason why people likes kpop. We are so used to those gym songs they're predictible and boring now and we want something more artistic. KPOP mix genres and experimental but also sounds amazing musicaly and vocaly. KPOP is next level music
They were pretty much the only K-pop group that was making metal k-pop. They weren't popular in SK but their CEO is a smart cookie and took them touring internationally. They have 3 international tours under their belt (saw them in London). They have the same producers Ollounder and LEEZ and they kept adapting to the trends and started mixing a lot of other stuff in. This latest one was their best selling album of all time for them.
The really interesting part is that the "because I love you" part is deceptive. Kinda like "Welcome to Hotel California". The light side/dark side duality you noticed in the music, is actually in every part of this production. In the cinematography, the lyrics, the choreography and the music. All of them combined are pieces of a puzzle that form the whole picture, in a multilayered piece of art. The reason is that BEcause is a "horror song" about Doppelgangers, and the mythos about the evil copies that replace the originals. It's a music homage to the 2019 horror movie "Us" by Jordan Peele, the '70s horror movie "Dollhouse", plus a few others like "Misery"and "Psycho". The lyrics are creepy and in between the lines, one can discover that the song is really about obsession, sadness, madness and murder. But just as in the lobby scene, where everything seems fine, you see the victim's clothes being paraded on the clothes rack and that everybody is very weird, but you don't notice it at first. BEcause you entered into Deathtrap Hotel and you don't know it. Oops! A body is dragged under the curtain! In the same way, musically, you hear the sweet "I love yous" that hide the truly ominous lyrics of the song. Even in Korean, the subtext is so ambiguous, and it can be interpreted in two ways, that many people thought this was actually a pop love song at first, when it came out! But event the song title has a hidden meaning. It combines the Chinese-Korean character for "sadness" that sounds like be and adds it to because. Because of sadness. The MO for the Doppelgangers. My claim is that this song shouldn't be underestimated, as the production is so well thought of, like a good musical. This is a very uncharacteristically popey title song for Dreamcatcher. The reason is that everything is hidden in plain sight and only hints of darkness are allowed to peek through the facade. The angst you feel is there on purpose, to convey the "what's going on?" feeling. For example, half of the scenes are strangely under lit and they shouldn't. The contrast between the pop and the metal guitars (well, that's actually the "normal" part for Dreamcatcher). Why did they do it? Their mini album is called "Summer Holiday" and is full of sweet b-side songs and melodies. Among them, lies this little "short summer cruel tale" as Dreamcatcher called. Back in the summer of 2019, all the members went to the movies and watched "Us". They enjoyed it too much and they wanted to convey that feeling of going to the Matinee, in a hot Summer evening, to watch a good movie with your loved ones. Then write a creepy song about it!
If you were to describe Dreamcatcher in one word, it'd be: contrast. Listen to it more, you'll put it on your playlist. These girls are so creative and talented. Even if you don't like the song, you'll get hooked on their style.
BEcause is a song about how toxic and controlling the relationship and the choreographer inspired by the movie called “ us “.DC always came up with the most interesting storyline.
*Dreamcatcher's "BEcause" is about a powerful love which turns into an obsession. The lyrics indicate the singer's intense, possessive and obsessive affection towards their target of obsession*
you should check out more dreamcatcher \:D/ 'because' all their songs are different. dreamcatcher has songs spanning across all genres and as you already found out, combination of genres. a lot of people will recommend their harder hitting title tracks but I suggest a couple b-sides 'black or white' and 'red sun'. both have performance videos you can check out.
Dreamcatcher is a group with a scary concept. They were cursed by an evil spider. The curse was phobias or nightmares. So each of them has a phobia and it's clearly shown in the MVs. I love Dreamcatcher. I love their concept, vocals everything
Definitely will always recommend more Dreamcatcher songs. Really enjoyed your producer take on it, fun video. DC main songs are more rock/pop, but they do many different genres
Your comments on this song have been very helpful to me. Dreamcatcher has released songs of various genres, from heavy J-rock to EDM. I want to see your reaction again.

One song can't justify whether you like the group or not especially Dreamcatcher. They have a lot of genre blending song. If you really interested in music you should check out all of their stuff. There's a lot to dig into but basically their base sound is rock. They also have trap, edm, ballad, reggae, metal, jazz. I strongly recommend Deja Vu.
I think this is their least heavier title track, coz it suit the theme of their special album Summer Holiday...Dreamcatcher main title track have own storyline/ universe, and more heavier than this one...you should check out 7 tracks of their Nightmare Series (Chase Me, Good Night, Fly High, You and I, What, PIRI & Breaking Out) and 3 tracks of their Dystopia Series (Scream, BOCA & Odd Eye)..

Dreamcatcher is a genre of their own. And their composers are extremely talented. They make songs both beautiful and hauntingly diverse and creative. I am little bit sad that you didn`t enjoy it enough to add it to your playlist. But we are all different... Yes. And we have different taste. For me Dreamcatcher is a number one group in k-pop. Although i love Aespa too and your Next level specifically.
If you are intrigued, I think you'll find the Dystopia trilogy full of good gems, It consists of 3 Mvs: Scream, Boca, and Odd Eye My personal favorite tracks of theirs are Deja Vu, What, and Piri. I think dreamcatcher as a group has a LOT to unpack as they are quite unique.
Definitely would love to see your thoughts on my personal favourite title track of theirs, Deja Vu. The changes from the verses to the chorus is just really beautiful for me and I'd like to see your personal thoughts on it! Some additional things about BEcause is that the story of the lyrics pretty much gives yandere vibes for anime fans who may know the term. It talks of the singer being this normal sweet girl but in reality is twisted and has an obsessive love. The "BE" is capitalized because it's a take on the hanja/Chinese character for "sadness," so you could alternatively define BEcause as the "Cause of Sadness," which represents the tragic tale the story conveys. That the love isn't fruitful and isn't going to take on any happy or good form. The MV and choreography as well has many references to the horror movie Us, which is about doppelgangers where the red people (which we also see the girls dress as) are more miserable than the "real counterparts". You could link as well the initial concept of the lyrics and with the MV/choreography to represent a sort of toxic standards one has for themselves. Dreamcatcher has a really interesting concept which mostly focuses on horror. They have a couple of albums connected to each other in their first years (the story about girls cursed by a spider and become manifestations of phobias that are now being hunted down) and a recent trilogy album centered about internet hate/cyberbullying. Summer Holiday, the album BEcause is in, is treated as a stand-alone album. Although they've had multiple stories to tell a couple of fans do agree they're still related or linked in one way or another.
