That's quite a way from the combine I used to walk alongside and watch as a kid. It was a Massey-Harris, and I believe it was an 8-foot gate on the front; when they changed it and got a new one that was a 12-foot gate we were amazed. The first one must have been about 1956 or 58. No cab, the driver used to be thickly coated in dust by the end of the day if the weather had been dry and dusty. It would break down 3 or 4 times on a bad day, with the drum getting clogged or the walkers not shifting the straw out fast enough or the intake spirals or elevator belt getting clogged. The skill demanded of the driver, trying to cut the stalks as low as possible when the table height had to be set by hand and eye, was considerable. In those days the straw, when baled, was a valuable by-product and they sold all of it, especially the long wheat-straw. Later, you couldn't get decent money for it and they's burn it off where it lay in the fields, much to the annoyance of housewives in nearby towns who had washing out on the line. Most of our local farmers now seem to use Claas, but this is the UK, and they are smaller than that beast. But then, fields are MUCH smaller, and you have to move the things along public roads, through little winding country lanes; a machine that size would be totally impractical. I'd still like to see one working, close-up, but I don't imagine it would be allowed. As a kid, I used to step up on the bottom step and get a ride; I had to get off if the foreman came around, but otherwise they trusted me to keep out of the way. That's one incredible combine! It does so much and so fast. Nothing beats having horsepower. I think it's the first combine I've seen that also acts like a swather. It's so big, is there a general rule when you meet traffic on the more narrow roads?

@RockyMountainFarmer Well see, I just learned something new. I didn't know that other combines are able to make wind rows. I'm always ready to learn something new. 😊
so what combines have u had before this one ? good lookin machine. Neighbor got one a few yrs back, ran it one season and traded it to a x9 an still has it. may have been one of the early models with some issues
You and Chris are pretty good sized Men. I would see about shortening the ladder a few feet before I bent it crossing a ditch. Looks like the manufacturer would have made the ladder retractable like on a spray rig.
Well, the bottom step is flexible but also we don’t have any ditches or anything to cross that it would hit on, so I don’t think it will be a problem for us
Also available in red. And possibly a bit cheaper because of it. A question was asked about how you kill the crop. You answered that you stop irrigating, but I suggest that this answer is not quite correct. The crop is not killed and grain crops do not need to be. Grains are all members of the grasses or gramineae and are annuals. The seed grows into a plant that then produces a flower(s) of sorts that then becomes the head containing new seed/grain. Upon completion of filling those seeds, the plant dies off by itself and turns yellow. If you carried on watering, it would still do that. No intervention is required, unlike with Oil Seed Rape/Canola that needs spraying off or swathing first. (Cut and left in a swath to dry out before it is threshed. But that is done to ripen the seeds off evenly as the plants are very tall and the seeds at the top ripen well before the lower placed seed pods are. Similarly potatoes are sometimes sprayed off. This is done where the grower has a contract to supply potatoes of a certain size, so when they reach that size, they are sprayed off and left to let the skin set. If not sprayed, they will carry on growing untill the cold weather comes.
Nice Video. i am pretty new to this and i cant afford this in real life. why is it that the back tires of the harvester are mounted the other direction ( pointing the wrong way)? thanks for the answer. id like to understand
I was wondering the same thing. I’m not really sure. I’m sure there is a reason. I know they make an all wheel drive version so maybe it would have traction to get unstuck if you got stuck.
Its because the rear tires are a rolling tire(non powered). For a rolling tire, a tractor tire mounted backwards turns in mud better that way. Because the force "drags" the tire, versus "pulling" with a drive tire. This allows you to maintain steering in muddy conditions.

The reason why it is going so fast is the 40 ft header is kinda small for that combine it was designed for the 45 or 50 foot header if you had a 45 or 50 foot header you wouldn’t be going as fast
Well, we take all of the straw and bail it so this header is actually plugging up because we take so much straw if we had a 50 foot header we would be going way slower
First fendt combine west of the rockies sounds to me like service is going to be an issue. No fendt technicians in the area know how that combine works.
The dealer is 20 minutes from us, and they sent their technicians to a weeklong course on these specific combines so they are very well trained and how to fix them. Every little issue that we had during harvest they came out to the field and had it fixed within an hour.
@@RockyMountainFarmer Good combine but not a fair comparison with the I9 due to age and size. The I9 is more like a CR9090 or a 9.90. What made you get an I9 over a NH ? Do you really need a Class 9 combine for 1700 acres, especially grain, not corn ?
Great awesome video , different terms ive never heard of . Must be a western thing lol its doing what it was designed for ram it in and go 4 to 5 , mike mitchell didnt have good luck with them but so far brian brown has one with just joysticks
Why not dump into the truck cutting on the go instead of dumping into a cart and then having to dump again into the truck-? Less augering of the grain means less fines in the grain. Other crops are dumped from the harvester on the go into trucks.
@@John-nc4blexhaust on a truck runs underneath the truck tractor exhaust runs out the top big difference semi hold more heat under the truck so it can start a fire tractor exhaust goes straight out the top so you don't have that heat
There aren’t very many custom cutters around here and the money we would’ve had to pay them would make a payment on the combine so we wouldn’t be saving any money at least this way we’re putting that money into an asset that we can use on the farm
3 weeks for a class 9 on 1600 acres ? My family farms in north Dakota and last year we knocked out 5800 acres of wheat and durum in 17 days with 4 class 9's and one class 8. Run one 1350 bushel and one 2000 bushel carts.

The main reason was the price to get a comparable John Deere. It’s about $700,000 more.
@@RockyMountainFarmer Re do your math. That Agco combine isn't 700 k cheaper than a 800,000 dollar Deere.
@delbutler885 the deere is over a million
@@delbutler885 what kind of person are you telling someone to re-do his math? U don't even know what offer he got from JD or what exactly he paid for the Fendt Ideal. When he says the Fendt Ideal was 700k$ less than a comparable JD you should just go with instead of questioning his math and telling him to re-do it, what a weird answer you put out here.
@@Tranlockholy crap man he said they paid 700 k. A s790 is running 6-650 us dollars. X9 demos are about 7-800 k. So maybe 100 k less
It never ends, bigger combine now you need a bigger cart, what did you have to do to fix the wheel sensor?
It actually was just not quite plugged in all the way
@@RockyMountainFarmer love the simple fixes!
What’d you give for it? Full price? Lease? Or a gimme for your videos.
Well, a new one is 700,000 but because this was a demo we got it for quite a bit less but it’s finance for like 12 years
Are you bailing the straw that the combine leaves?
Yes we are
If you think the Fendt Ideal 9 is good. Then you need to try the Claas Lexion 8900
Can’t there are no dealers here
Sweet! Work hard and you'll get stuff so that you produce more while working just as hard lol.
What part of Idaho yall in?
We are in Shelley in eastern Idaho
@@RockyMountainFarmer nice, I've been thru there a bunch of times when I drove semi OTR. Currently I'm in western Washington and have a DEEP desire to GTF outta here! Idaho is one of my target states to move to, just having a very difficult time convincing the wife to go
awesome!
Glad you think so!
Apparently they've resolved the rear chopper issue so it quit breaking and plugging on a daily bases.
They must have because we haven’t had a problem. We also don’t chop our straw. We put it in windows and bail it.
@@RockyMountainFarmer good luck with the rest of harvest.
Will the straw be baled?? That would be an amazing amount of bales!
Yes, it will all be bailed and there will be about 4000 bales
@@RockyMountainFarmerWas going to ask the same 😊
I love watching the channel If you want to know what to watch for on new combine watch Mike Mitchell from last year or year before he farms 40k acres in Canada with that kind of acres you find problems alot quicker Best of luck enjoy your machine
Well, I’m glad you love watching the channel.
What was cure for the gps problem, watching from Northern Ireland 🇬🇧🇬🇧
The wheel sensor wasn’t plugged in all the way. Thanks for watching
Need bigger grain carts soon
This one is doing just fine
Grain and boom… I’ve never heard those 2 words used in that context before.
Yeah, I say things a little bit different
Have you ever flown a space craft as you stated
Nope but I can imagine
What model was your New Holland combine ?
It was a CR9060
@@RockyMountainFarmer Good combine but not a fair comparison with the I9 due to age and size. The I9 is more like a CR9090 or a 9.90.
What made you get an I9 over a NH ?
Do you really need a Class 9 combine for 1700 acres, especially grain, not corn ?
Short rows and side rolls.... Productivity killers.
Definitely true
Great awesome video , different terms ive never heard of . Must be a western thing lol its doing what it was designed for ram it in and go 4 to 5 , mike mitchell didnt have good luck with them but so far brian brown has one with just joysticks
I’m glad you liked it. I feel like Mike Mitchell has problems with everything.
@@RockyMountainFarmer honestly hes too picky about things .
What was your moisture? Looks dry.
It is definitely dry. I think we’re running about 9% moisture.
@@RockyMountainFarmer Great. Good for you.
Nice Combine, Why dont you put a 45 or 50 foot header on it?
Well, this header was a demo header so it was a lot less
@@RockyMountainFarmer I see, you gotta do what makes sense to stay in this business.
How does it compare to a John Deere 1100 combine?
The people I know who run a Deere are not that impressed by the Deere. And for the price it is a much better value.
@@RockyMountainFarmer and some of John Deere is moving to Mexico to?
True
if u have 500 bushel on the combine and u r unloading on the go u should have another 25 or so bushel to unload.
True
What is the cost of the new FENDT. Header and all.?🤔
Brand new I think it’s around 700,000. Which, for this size of combine is more affordable than any other brand.
No matter how fast you say it 700,000 is a lot of money 😮
Yeah, there’s not really affordable options out there anymore. Everything‘s getting so expensive.
Is that spring or winter wheat
It’s spring
Why not dump into the truck cutting on the go instead of dumping into a cart and then having to dump again into the truck-?
Less augering of the grain means less fines in the grain.
Other crops are dumped from the harvester on the go into trucks.
You don’t take trucks into the field because then you risk lighting the field on fire with a hot engine that’s really close to the ground
@@RockyMountainFarmer Tractor engines are about the same height as truck engines from the ground.
@@John-nc4blexhaust on a truck runs underneath the truck tractor exhaust runs out the top big difference semi hold more heat under the truck so it can start a fire tractor exhaust goes straight out the top so you don't have that heat
@@alvinbecker7619 Thanks for the reply and it makes sense.
just curious to know how much this beauty cost
Brand new there around 700,000 but this was a demo so we got it for a lot less
@@RockyMountainFarmer really awesome deal dude much love from India
Who runs the combine ?
Currently, there are three of us who know how, but Christopher is in it most of the time
Where does the wheat go to?
We take it to the mill directly
What a glorious monster!!
Not too sure about the funny green tractor. Time for a 1050 maybe
Yeah, it’s a pretty nice combine. It’s hard to justify a new tractor when we have one that’s paid off.
Time to invest in a bigger grain cart now
Yeah, we will see how this year goes. So far it’s working out just fine.
Do you guys bale up that straw?
Yes we do
that’s one bad mamma jamma
It sure is
What are the wheel lines for
For irrigation
@@RockyMountainFarmer Iv never seen one, just pivots
Well I’m glad I could show you one
15:30 I like to see pictures of cars selling well. Do you specialize in selling this harvesting machine?
Well, I’m not a salesman I am a farmer, so I don’t sell anything but crops
wow
Custom cutters are the way to go. Could’ve saved a bunch of money paying them to come in and cut instead of buying a combine. Less labor and time too.
That’s pretty good
You gotta get go pro mounts.
I have some I’m planning on using them in another episode, so keep watching
👍 from Iowa
Well, thanks for watching
Great awesome video , different terms ive never heard of . Must be a western thing lol
It probably is
Check out Mike Mitchell post harvest update on the Fendt from two years ago
I know he had a hard time with Fendt combines but now he has John Deere and he has hard times with John Deere combines. I think he just has hard times with everything he runs.
Yep. The guy that bought his Fendt is very happy.
Mike Mitchell has trouble getting his shoes tied. He can't even operate his cell phone. So taking farm advice from him is a joke. His used Ideal 9 are going great, the owners that have them haven't had any trouble. Look at the mighty Mike Mitchell have trouble with his John Deer.
Most of them quote unquote influencer channels are just garbage
You had another channel that was going to show us how great the new green card is that some company dropped off. Except their combined could barely reach over the sides and the tractor could only pull it half full
