To me this song encapsulates an amazing, religious-like feeling when you are working so hard to achieve something (that's the first part of the track). And the finale is that moment when you achieve it and it's flawless, and it's the essence of your doing. It's that feeling of fulfillment, of getting what you wanted and more. It's like making love to that one woman you truly desire. By far, one of the most amazing pieces of music I've heard in my life.
This song is just litteraly god, i don't have the words to describe it by an other way, this can change your life nothing is much deeper and better than the guitar at the middle with all the distorsions
I knew "The Wall" (1979) since I was about Six Years old, now I'm turning 17. I was always into the old Music, but the first Time I heard "The Dark Side Of The Moon" last Year, it was something different. It was just another Dimention or World of Music that opend for Me, This Album touched Me deep inside. The Dark Side Of The Moon will always be one of the biggest Albums in Music History for Me :-)
Home Of Vintage Technology Nice to hear mate. I found Floyd at 15, luckily saw them live a year after that and a lifetime later utube unveiled another world of goodies. Still the best band I've ever enjoyed - Gilmour is a godsend
The album was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, in two sessions, between May 1972 and January 1973. The band were assigned staff engineer Alan Parsons, who had worked as assistant tape operator on Atom Heart Mother, and who had also gained experience as a recording engineer on The Beatles' Abbey Road and Let It Be. ....At that time song were played live a lot before recorded on studio.
I strongly belive Roger was out of his mind when discussing the meaming of this song in that interview about how this song implied lack of possibilities and all of them plates being '"blue" ect. I think it is quite the opposite. The phrase any colour you like refers to the album cover where the lightbeam disperses through the prism and all colours are visible. As we know from physics class the length of the wave is what gives the colour of that beam. So looking at slightly different angle can give you different visible colour. The same principle is apparent in real life. Just a slight switch of point of view in life can make you feel and exeperince things differently. For example being optimistics about life takes no more than a simple thought that you have to sustain long enough to see a change. In that case that simple thought is that slight switch of the angle that would make you go from red to yellow or even blue which is the exact opposite оf red in the mind of everybody. Moreover the chord progresion is from D minor to G major, which makes the song sound optimistic, beginning with minor chord and enging on major one. This is so called 1-4 chord progression D being the first note of the D scale and G being the fourth note of that scale. This chord progression is evident in Breath, Money, The Great Gig in the Sky. In the end all colours merge into white colour, so it is up to you to choose through the lenses of which colour you are gonna view life. Peace X
The title of this tune is part of a quote from Henry Ford of Ford Motors. When the Model T was released he said '' You can have any color you like, so long as it is black''
Wish I could go back to 1972 as an adult. Was only 5 back then.I remember all the women with long straight hippie girl hair.Really sexy. Was A time with all the leftover hippies from the 1960’s
Dark Side of the Moon is perhaps one of the better floyd albums, but probably not the best album ever made by musicians. You would have to listen to every album in existence including works before the 1900's to come to a proper conclusion AND, even then, your conclusion would be only objective. Unfortunately music is inherently subjective, so it really is impossible to say that an album is the best. That being said. I really fucking love DSoTM. (Wish you were here is indeed one of the best as well)
Pieter v Doorn I would say DSoTM is one of the best rock albums ever made! I really like the sound, atmosphere and concept of this album, the highest creative period along with WYWH, although I really appreciate Obscured by clouds and Meddle.. No doubt Pink Floyd is one of the greatest rock bands and they were pioneers in history of contemporary music. This song, specially blew me away and trapped me automatically the very first time I listened to it. One of the greatest music experiences for me was to listening the whole album, alone, one shot...
+Pieter v Doorn many people like "wish you were" here as their best song in DSoTM i like that too, but for me breathe mix with any colour you like is the best song in this album peace be upon you
aldo aldino but sorrily he dont play keyboard solo in this version because its from live shows before the album came out and still was not that perfectly keboard solo on early versions
this might be the best piece of noise humanity has ever created. So meaningful and meaningless at the same time... I could write a fucking book about it. I'm high, sorry
Another reason why I've lost all faith in humanity: I was the first to sign up for this thread on WCRPG (Roleplaying site) and I used David Gilmour, after that a few more people joined and as well as two other people used famouse people too, right? Well one person replies as "Oh my god! I can't belive so and so are on this!" Eventually the idiot had no idea when I said "and there's one more..." after that I cussed he fuck out of her.
Any version you like, never met one I didn't.
You have good taste in music!!!

The best decade for music! So glad I grew up in the '70s.
This is the soundtrack on the road to heaven.
This song is just litteraly god, i don't have the words to describe it by an other way, this can change your life nothing is much deeper and better than the guitar at the middle with all the distorsions
This is the best version i've ever listened.
One of my favourite jams. I keep it close to the top. Thanks Stan.

The dark side of the moon definitely changed my life at 17 too.
Spiritual experience
On a Trip to wherever I want this to be played at my funeral
It will be playing, anyways, in the time of your excarnation.
Most underrated song on Dark Side of the Moon.
Best sound ever made by a band
ric's in heaven playing keyboards to god, legends don't just die
The drums sound very tasteful, the best drum kit of nick mason...
Gilmour is just perfect. He was born tp play a stradt...lucky us 💎💎
What a record What a band brilliant
There early live concerts are treasures.
Indeed. Before Floyd went stratospheric and thus became "facile and soulless". When they were a true band.
Great
Agreed. This is one of my personal favorites.
Mine too!!!
Just plain smooth, PF at their best, hands down.
The title fits this jam so perfect. They synthesize senses before your brain can even process them.
i always like the earlier stuff when it was just getting worked on, and this is by far my favorite song on The Dark Side of the Moon
amazing track
So simple, so beautiful.
Master piece of the Floyd!

The Dark side of the moon is the best album ever made by musicians
Wish You Were Here is their best album
do you recon?

this might be the best piece of noise humanity has ever created. So meaningful and meaningless at the same time... I could write a fucking book about it. I'm high, sorry

Not Godly......... Floydly!
I miss the synthesizer, that was a huge part of it.
Yes. And the Pulse version probably has the best version of it.
Exactly!! It's so incomplete without it
this was 1972, the album was still on the works
The music looks like it's real pink floyd but anyone can share mora information about that gig in '72?

Where'd you get that pic?
dark side was released in 73 ...
Yeah, but they played the album as early as january 1972. Remember that Pink Floyd played new songs before it was actually released.
So tasty!
Sounds like Creedence Heard it through the grapevine
Vernon Toews wow now that you say that some parts do sound like a trippy version of it.
...hmm
Wonder if Roger Waters plays this song in live concerts
just went to won in august and he did play it. He played all of dark side from money onwards
